Jumping multiple similar objects

Shradha Holani <shradhaholani@...>

We are working on an add-on which allows us to move multiple objects of same type in one go. For e.g, I want to jump 3 lines in a document. We are calling script_review_nextLine() function three times. Here, we are facing an issue, NVDA reads out all the three lines, instead of just reading the third line. May be he is putting all the lines content in queue. Any suggestions, how we can fix it.

Well, not sure about the latter as I subscribe to the mail list for issues and this allows email to be used to comment on tickets on github. I do find, even with modern browsers, a little like a system over engineered for many tasks that in the end fills with clutter the user is not going to need and clever little non standard bits.
However getting back on topic. yes you can stop Firefox from updating, but I suppose you then leave yourself open to breaches.
If you have a 64 bit machine then Waterfox is quite good.
I still find, even on windows 7 that the new Firefox versions crash more and do not provide good audio feedback of when pages are loaded etc.

There are much more reasons why proxy servers are used, but thats not the
point. The fact is, that many companies are using proxy servers and NVDA
seems not to be able to deal with such kind of environments which makes it
more difficult for people to keep their system up to date.

So, I'm not aware that anything out there allows you to do what you want.
Tecnicaly it should be no problem because other software is also able to
use the proxy to check for upgrades and install them. As long as only http
or https is used for the checks and downloads, the proxy should no
problem.

Maybe the system admins can arrange a pass through or maybe they can
monitor the sites for the add ons etc you want.

This is the last step to perform and in some environments this will be
inpossible due to security policies, e.g.

By all means raise an issue on Github, but I'm not sure how the devs
might view this.
Thanks for the hint with Github, I will create a request.

Why are you not happy with the Microsoft solution?
I'm assuming that, like myself you have Windows 7.
One thing is for sure, nothing will stop you getting infected 100 percent. Its all a trade off, Much can be done by being wary what you click on or open and hence no matter how good a solution is, they will all have issues of either being too invasive, slowing down the machine or not spotting things.
There is no magic bullet even if you pay.

Re: NVDA with Spybot and Mozilla

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

I've not used it in some time, mainly due to its over invasive tendencies, some of which you have found. I do remember its supposed to be configurable to avoid passwords, but I never found an accessible way to achieve this.
Does it perhaps use a .ini file?
As for anti virus, well its not really an anti virus program, but to some extent it used to highlight things like route kits and such installed by Trojans. Once again though, I found that it was hit and miss, and often getting rid of what it considered to be malware, could trash the machine.
I'll leave it up to others to comment further, but I just found it rather tiresome and went over to Superantispyware, which although not that easy to use, seems to be more reliable and does not remove passwords but does remove cookies associated with tracking, however other problems with it are things like unwanted browser extensions, like the Ask toolbar, which it says I have on one machine but I do not see it, but even if I wanted it to be removed the checkbox to remove it is not accessible.

The best way to do this is just pose my questions. Thanks in advance
for your helpful input.

1. NVDA and Spybot 2.7. Does anyone know if NVDA 2.7, Search and
Destroy, also includes an anti-virus feature? Would a detailed report
of a scan be pretty long reading?

2. As Spybot deletes passwords from browser memory, is there a way to
ensure that it leaves the browser alone so that the current classic

I had to do a system restore to get my old browser back after a scan
session. Overall, I do like Spybot!

Hello,

in my job I have to use a http proxy to access the internet. The proxy
settings for the browser (Firefox) and the operating system (Win7) are
provided by a proxy.pac file stored on the proxy itself.

Unfortunatly neither NVDA, nor any add-on, can be updated automaticaly. It
seems that NVDA is not using the proxy settings for the browser or
operating system.

Is this a missing feature or can I somewhere specify htt proxy settings
for NVDA? Where can I open a bugreport or feature request for this issue?
Its not uncommon, that proxy servers are used in company environments and
IMHO NVDA should be able to deal with this.

Cheers and thanks for any help,

The latest release has an issue. If you dally around when going through the buttons, on the new quick thingymajig, it auto activates, leaving you in an inaccessible window, which you have to close to carry on.
It seems to me this so called new feature is simply the old customise feature brought out on the top level and made not to work with a screenreader very well. Hitting custom seems to just behave as before.

Windows 10 App Essentials and SPL Studio add-on 18.11.2 #addonrelease

Hi everyone,

SPL Studio and Windows 10 App Essentials 18.11.2 will hit the air in about half an hour from now. As always, you can obtain latest releases of these add-ons in not one, not two, but three ways: community add-ons website, Add-on Updater, or via standalone update check feature provided by these add-ons (I think, for many of you now, option two would be the best choice).

Changelog:

StationPlaylist Studio: localization updates.

Windows 10 App Essentials:

  • If you’re using a Windows 10 release which is going through a “remedial class”, you’ll notice slight improvements in how NVDA announces clipboard status, especially when clipboard history is empty. This is not to be confused with a version of Windows 10 that is “behind the curtain” – they are two completely different things, but what I’m saying about the former will apply to the latter (to be explained shortly).
  • In Settings (Windows+I), NVDA will no longer appear to do nothing or play error tones while using object navigation commands in some circumstances.
  • Localization updates.

Regarding Windows 10 releases I mentioned:

  • Remedial class: Version 1809
  • Behind the curtain: Insider Preview

Few more announcements regarding these add-ons:

For StationPlaylist Studio users:

  • Python 3 compatibility: almost. Both stable and 18.09.x LTS are almost Python 3 ready (there are two or three things that needs to change, but apart from that, it is ready for Python 3).
  • Studio 5.11 compatibility: sometime in 2019, I plan to release a stable version of this add-on that’ll absolutely require Studio 5.20 and later due to some internal changes. In particular, certain SPL Assistant layer commands will benefit from changes made to studio routines in 5.20 and later, hence improving responsiveness of affected commands. Once I settle on the cut off release (likely in the second half of 2019), I’ll give you sixty days’ notice before asking Studio 5.11 users to switch to LTS channel.

Windows 10 App Essentials:

  • Extended support for Version 1709 (Fall Creators Update): Windows 10 Version 1709 will be supported by this add-on until February 28, 2019.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: NVDA with Spybot and Mozilla

Why aren't you happy with Microsoft Security Essentials?  It had a bad reputation perhaps two or three years ago but its reputation has improved a great deal since then.  It may be worth considering.  I don't know if antivirus ability has been added to Spybot very recently.  It never had this ability in the past and I have no idea how good its antivirus activity is, if present.  I would suggest you do a Google search for Spybot and the version nnumber of the program and write the word review after the name and version number.

You may be going through trouble and work to use a program you may find you don't want to use but I don't know enough about the program to say if it is a good choice or not.

Here is a new release and as usual the ini file is here.

The ini file has as usual the ics run for those that want to get the full benifits or simply don't want my file do a control f on ccleaner.ini in notepad and find cfg.

Now as long as piriform or should I say avast corp in their infinit wizdom doesn't reenable the damn setting every few runthroughs that will actually be good.

I suspect the fact that its freezing on some units rather than my issue is probably the issue.

I really hope that at least in portable we don't have to handle these issues its why I switched to portable, firstly the visual panel and then to get away from system monitering.

The thing is, get past the inaccessible configuration and settings, the monitering, the extra not needed things like quickclean and the program is basically accessible once configured.

There are custom ini files you can put in or get bits from to.

And there are ways to add things in if you need just remember eventually the datafile entries will slow the engine down.

With all that out the way, ccleaner is still in my view a good program.

I use skype and zoom. Skype for one of my jobs and zoom for another. I want to actually start teaching classes so will consider integrating class room like features of zoom if I can figure out how. By the way skype 8 is very very accessible. You jus tneed to use your web browsing functiosn. It's not a big deal really, or won't be if you can think of skype like a a big web page. They have wanted to do this since about 2004 when I started to use skype.

Skype 8 is what you will have if you need it.

I know people have used it but fortunately as I have little need of it for business and can switch most of that to email I simply have left that behind.

Its accessible supoposed to be more so but who knows or cares if you don't need it.

Forgive me if you have discussed this already.

I stupidly upgraded my Skype classic to the latest ver 8.33.

I'm struggling to make it work with either NVDA or JAWS, with the same
ease as Skype classic.

Does anyone have suggestions ?.

Thanks, Paul

Re: Navigating Tables in Word

If I remember correctly, you must do NVDA+Space to toggle on the browse mode, then you can press T for tables...

Hello all,
Is there a keystroke for coming up with a list of tables in a Word document?
Thanks for any help on this.
