Re: Having troubles to play with a website

Not sure if this is covered, check your windows store updates to see if there are codec updates you need to install.

also www.codecguide.com mega codec is your friend.

I had a load of issues with systems, codecguide stuff has all the codecs both decode and encode you should possibly need.

Frequently updated, the hackers that originally made this was basically to avoid having to guess and download codecs all day long, and I have used it since xp and I recomend it.

The only caviat if you will is that every windows update for feature update you need to reinstall the main and sub  update packs so that everything works but thats about it.

They are fast downloading and innosetup is the install engine.

Hi George,
I'm using the laptop layout. And I just did it yesterday before giving up on this site. Nothing happened at all, so I really don't feel like trying it anymore :(

Do you have nvda's keyboard layout  set to laptop?  if so, do the following:

Press b until you get to the button you want to click.

hold down the nvda and shift keys and press the letter m to route the mouse to the button.

Hold down the nvda key and press the left bracket key to click the button.

To see whether keyboard layout is set to laptop or desktop, do the following:

Press nvda plus n to open the nvda menu.

Press p to open preferences.

Press enter to open settings.

Press the letter k for keyboard.

Tab once and the keyboard layout setting will be spoken.

Press escape to exit the nvda menu.

Indeed, all of the following are true:

  1. You will not find the buttons for audio control on the https://golubovsky.bandcamp.com/album/unhuman-voices page except by using the B quick navigation shortcut
  2. Hitting spacebar or enter when you have gained focus on those buttons does nothing.
  3. Using NVDA+/ to route the PC mouse pointer to the NVDA navigator object, then using NumPad slash to activate it will make it play (or, if you're on the jump to next track or other audio control button do what that button does).

Can somebody perhaps contact dropbox themselves. They normally are helpful if a little slow. After all they may innocently be closing these windows for the sighted, ie, they are transparent but oblivious that the open window is not vanishing for the screenreader user.

Could be one for the  dev list in case anyone over there has a contact?

As I say, in my windows 7 there is more wrong with dropbox than just this, but as its main core functions work, I leave well alone. I used to stop updates but Dropbox then started to send me messages that I had not got the latest dropbox.

I have this in dropbox 67 to.

To be honest, do you need dropbox running all day long.

I used to run projects with various people which was my main reason to keep it running at all costs, however, usually I sync data once a day and only when I have data, dropbox stays up till its not needed and then turned off.

Even if I do a project, I update dropbox, shut it down and bring it up several times a day as needed and never run it on startup so its not a big issue.

Hi all,

I'm running Dropbox v68.3.92. Approximately every half an hour or so, NVDA's focus is being moved to a Dropbox window which only seems to contain a single, blank edit field. The window doesn't seem to stay on the screen, but focus isn't returned to where it was previously after it disappears. In fact, NVDA reports it as taking up a rectangle of 0 pixels, so I don't know if anything shows up visually on the screen at all.

As you can imagine, having to dismiss these boxes several times per day is irritating. Does anybody have a work-around?

Hello,

I think that this post outside of most of the threads of this group, and hope you will accept my apologies if it's a bothersome use of your bandwidth.

I have just finished rebuilding my winery website attempting to meet WCAG 2.0AA standards.  In addition to WCAG analysis software tools, I've been using NVDA as my live testing tool for development and for the finished site.  I'm feeling good about the main site, but find the eCommerce portion of our site (which is served in iframes from our 3rd party eCommerce vendor) to be tricky and cumbersome.  I'd consider myself a beginner NVDA user and have full eyesight.  If any folks who actually use NVDA in their normal life would like to peruse my website and offer their feedback, I would be most appreciative.  I'm working very hard to make it the best that I can!

Thank you very much,

Hi,

Just a quick note to say that you're not the only one experiencing this, posted about this last week myself in fact. As someone who owns both the tiflotechnia and code factory versions of vocalizer, I'd suspect that this is a problem with the sapi implementation from codefactory's end, as the vocalizer nvda addon from tiflotechnia works fine. I could also be completely wrong on this, but if anyone has any more information/has found a solution then please let us know!

Since I did this, I have not had to restart NVDA.  It is still slow, probably because I am using right now the MSFT voices.  I am going to go back to using Eloquent which I prefer and see if the problem is completely resolved.

Two.   One is to log in to your e-mail service provider's webmail interface and take a look at what the trash folder looks like there.  My guess, and it's only that, is that Thunderbird will only be capable of manipulating trash messages that it had a role in placing there.  If you have an ancient mountain of them either from webmail or elsewhere (another e-mail client) that Thunderbird can't touch then you'll need to empty trash once from webmail and this should then cease to occur.

If the above is not the case, then contact your e-mail service provider.   This is very odd behavior, and a typical IMAP server should be able to hold untold thousands of messages per user, including their trash messages, without issue.

My gut is telling me that you are somehow just below whatever the ultimate limit for trash is, and that Thunderbird is not actually clearing messages it didn't send there in the first place.

It seems that the trash folder has a limit of 10/12 messages only at a time.

I also tried to repair it from its properties, but the problem persists and it is quite frustrating to delete 70 or more messages, always having to compact or empty this trash folder.

Other ideas?

Sorry, Gene,

You are correct about the read current line command. It just that it does not help in this case. It does speak the data in the cell when there is no loss of focus but once the focus is lost then the NVDA +up-arrow does not speak the cell.

What happens if you use read current line when speech starts?  I don't use Excel (spelling) but in general, if I use something like browser mode search on an Internet page or elsewhere and excess verbiage is spoken, as it usually is, using read current line immediately reads what is found.

Thanks, the double tap of the left alt key does bring back the focus.

It begins with a lengthy statement:

ribbon tab tab control expanded. Home tab alt h, 2 of 13

Despite the verbiage, That is much better than swapping out and back which involves a delay because the workbook is very big.

Hi Cearbhall,

Excel is mostly behaving for me, however, I did find sometimes using F5 to jump between cells, particularly when it changes pages, it sometimes loses focus like you found, although mine didn't throw up errors like yours.  When it does lose focus in Excel, you should be able to press ALT twice quickly to get the focus back.  I was sure we had an issue for it, probably several, but they are hiding from me this afternoon, so I can't check where they are at.  I will keep looking.

Subject: [nvda] Emailing: NVDA Excel losing focus

Quentin and friends,

I apologise for sending this several times. It seems that the system,
somewhere, will not allow the log file to remain attached so I am pasting it
to the bottom of the message and sending it again. I hope you forgive the
long message that results!

Here is the issue:

I wonder if you can help me with this problem?

I am running Windows 10, Office 365, and the latest NVDA. I am working on an
Excel worksheet where I have three panels of data that must correlate in
various ways.     One of the tasks is to compare the contents of cells in
columns "K", "Z" and "AK for the same row.

When I press F5 to go to, say, K19, NVDA echoes the contents of the cell
perfectly and I can review the data under the numpad key 5 .
I then press F5 again and type in AK19 and press enter to reach that cell.
NVDA does not call out the contents of the cell but focusses on the top of
the screen and will not be moved for love or money!
I then press alt+tab to swap out of Excel elsewhere and press alt+tab again
to get back into excel. Now NVDA reports the contents of the cell and I can
review the contents under the numpad 5 key.
Pressing F5 again, brings me back to the K19 cell and this time NVDA does
not focus on the cell and so I must switch away and back again with alt+tab
to read the cell contents.

This is the repeated pattern. Occasionally, NVDA does echo the target cell
on landing but more often than not, it does not do so.

I have attached the log file but all I can see in it are errors and no sign
of my keystrokes.

I tried these steps with JAWS and each cell is echoed perfectly. I take it,
then, that Windows is working perfectly.
Is this a known bug in NVDA?
Is there an options setting that I should set?

All advice welcome!

All the best,

Cearbhall

Thanks.  I found it and I unchecked it.  For right now, it is doing ok, will see whether it lasts.  Thanks again.

Pascal,
If you go to your sounds settings, where you can choose what speaker/microphone to use and such, also there will be a tab called enhancements. It's there, I guess.

The other thing to check, folks, is whether you have audio effects turned on. This seems to cause NVDA real problems.

Hi All,

I am having the same problem no matter what voice I am using.  I have
to restart NVDA so often because is starts stuttering and sputtering
or goes silent.  This is happening on both my Acer and HP laptops both have 8GB RAM.
This is also happening with the latest version of NVDA and prior versions.
I have on both laptops Windows version 1809 built 17763.  I do not
believe the problem, is my sound card as I have no problems when I am
playing music or listening to an E-book. This is getting very
frustrating.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

Lately, I’ve had to restartNVDA every so often, to get it back focused
on what’s supposed to do; to read the screen! Sometimes I’m working
along, in apps like Windows10 Mail, Windows Explorer or others, and
suddenly while arrowing around, it doesn’t read, having to invoke the
Read Line NVDA+L to read where I’m on in the menú, list or whatever.
When I restart it (I assigned it a shortcut of nvda+Shift+Control+N,
it solves itself out, but a few minutes later, the same thing happens!
Which is kind of starting to drive me crazy! Any ideas?

Re: Thunderbird and trash

for me I keep them there until I'm sure I don't need them, otherwise use that keystorke the prior poster recommended.

Take care and hope that helps.

Do you want messages to accumulate in the trash folder as a safeguard against accidental deletion?  If not, use shift d instead of delete.  That will delete the messages and not send them to the trash folder, which should work around the problem.

Thanks  Brayan, but the problem is, why the trash can't work normally?

It seems that the trash folder has a limit of 10/12 messages only at a time.

I also tried to repair it from its properties, but the problem persists and it is quite frustrating to delete 70 or more messages, always having to compact or empty this trash folder.

Other ideas?

Re: NVDA And Vocalizer Expressive Voices

Rui Fontes

This problem is only in CodeFactory voices...
If you buy Tiflotecnia Vocalizer voices you will not have this problem...

The Vocalizer Expressive from Tiflotecnia can have the voices not updated, but the voices work in all situations...

Hi all. I am in the process of trying out the Vocalizer Expressive voices for MVDA on a Windows 10 computer. When I do a say all using one of the voices, NVDA only reads so far, and then stops. Has anyone else experience this, and if so, is there something I can do to get this issue fixed?
