Hello Ollie,

When you finish writing the comment, just press escape to return to the text.

Hope this helps.

OWL looks dead. I've been looking for markdown writing software that just so happens to work with NVDA. Sure, I can write in notepad but I want to be lazy and not do everything manually. I've found the below. I have no idea if it is accessible though. The best markdown editors and blog publishers are for the Mac, strangely enough.

Hi.
The computer here at my job is like my own computer.
It is not networked with other work computers.
We don't have any restrictions of the software we would like to use as long as the job gets done and we are not harming our computers or any other computers there.

I am using windows defender anyway but I don't think hp protect tools it is suppose to replace antivirus programs.
I was never asked to update it or to download any definition updates for it.

Hi.
Sorry if this has been discussed before.
I am looking for an accessible way to disable or uninstall hp protect tools.

I am on windows 10 version 1809 and I am using a desk top hp computer at work.
I tried uninstalling hp protect tools from programs and features, but it says that I have to uninstall first hp device manager or something like that.
I didn't find anything to do with hp and device manager in programs and features.

Thanks

Re: Disable or uninstall hp protect tools

Hi Brian.
It is a long story, but I was experiencing slow performance with chrome canary and the new gmail.
One of my friends who works at the chrome accessibility department, asked me to download a utility for trace recording so he could watch the performance of my system when I was using gmail and chrome canary.
Apparently, hp protect tools is conflicting with nvda so I want to disable or uninstall it since I don't need it for anything.

The behavior of task manager is highly dependent on how busy your machine is at the time you end the task. I've discovered that if the machine is running well, then pressing alt-E for end task does indeed move you to the next task in the list, because it removes the one you're on. However, if the machine is busy, then end task leaves the NVDA cursor on the end task column, and you need to tab 2 or 3 times to get back to the list of processes. I'm guessing this is because whatever event NVDA triggers after pressing end task doesn't fire when the cpu is heavily loaded. However, simply tabbing back to the correct column allows you to continue along as if it did operate properly.

It may have been said in the thread before, but most of it has not arrived here as yet. There is a list on the same server as this, ie groups.io called blindphones, and there are lots of folk up in all kinds of mobile phones fro blind use. I do not think the experience of Firefox on Windows can in any way be used to judge the way it will work on an android phone. the screenreader is different and so is the way you use it. Unless you get the capcis keyboard phone it will be all touch and gestures.

Re: How can i read a full text with NVDA?

Gene

Your keyboard almost certainly has an insert key.  Is it a laptop keyboard?  Whatever the case, you can make caps lock an NVDA key so you can issue the command capslock down arrow.  Do the following:
Issue the command Windows key b to move to the system tray.  Type the letter n until you get to the NVDA icon.
Now, if your keyboard has a context menu key, press it.  If it doesn't or if you don't know where it is, issue the command shift f10.
The NVDA menu will open.  Down arrow to preferences and press enter.
Type k and the keyboard dialog will open.
Tab to use capslock key as NVDA modifier.  Check the item with the space bar.
Tab to the ok button and press the space bar.
Now, you can use the caps lock key as an NVDA key.  This is generally a far more convenient way to issue the read to end command, caps lock down arrow, even if a keyboard has an insert key.  That's what I use even though my keyboard has an insert key.

Subject: [nvda] Disable or uninstall hp protect tools

Thanks
Nikos

I don't know if you will get much information about how this is done on the list.  If you do an Internet search for a phrase like uninstall HP protect tools, you will see a lot of results discussing how this is done.  You can see if any apply or appear to be helpful.  There is evidently a way to contact HP Support about this.  I saw that possibility mentioned in the result I looked at.  also, it looked to me as though the procedure might differ or involve more if you have a certain version installed.

You said this is at work.  Why would a job allow you to make such a modification to a work computer?  Will your work allow you to use another antivirus program?
