Using Open audible

Val Temp <val.paul2005@...>

Hi!

I received an email from a friend telling me to try open audible, but as this friend has some sight, I have no idea if this is accessible with NVDA.

I have tried to use this program with jaws, but to no avail.

Can someone tell me if this is accessible with NVDA and how to use it?

Val.

I'm going into detail of how you may approach a problem like this so you may have a better understanding of what to do in future when you encounter such a problem.  Those who are not interested may want to skip this message.  Those interested may find it useful in future.

I see no error in the Windows Mediaplayer link.  I pasted it to the clippboard using the copy address submenu function in Chrome and got the following:

There are many listen links but, except for the Android devices link, However, they appear to be somehow coded incorrectly.  They cause Chrome to display a save as dialog, at least on my machine.  Others may report what they do on theirs.  I doubt using another browser would solve the problem, though that is generally one of the first gthings I do in such a case.  But, based on the behavior here, I doubt it will help, though I'm not sure.
Given the odd behavior, the thing to do is the following:
Never believe a site in such a case.  Site developers may not know what they are doing and they may mislabel links in terms of describing what they do.  Try the android devices link.  I pressed enter on it and the stream played in my browser.  In short, the Android devices link is properly configured and will play in a Windows browser.  It may play using android devices as well but, the person who labeled the link as to its purpose didn't know what the link would do and mislabeled the only one that works.

Did you try another browser?  Sometimes, you just have to use something else for a reason you may never know.  No one program may meet every need in a certain category of use.

The entire site's code is lousy with typos and broken tags. They need to hire a web designer, or at least take some html5 classes. If anyone knows the people who work there, please let them know I'd be willing to volunteer a quick typo-fix just to get the site... not broken.

Aside from that, were you able to get the direct Tune-In stream link to work? I believe Tune-In offers more streaming options, so if you need a different link I might be able to help.

I've been doing some more testing and it seems like the .aac (iphone) and .stream (Android) links are correct, but the windows media player link has a typo: a space has been entered after the link in the .wax file. Copy and paste the following link into windows media player, or use one of the first two options in VLC.

I use it every day.  It's a bit quirky, for sure, but you can use it

with NVDA's object navigation keys and the tab and shift tab keys.

Here's the secret.

When you first open the program, NVDA doesn't quite focus on it.

Open the program, then alt tab to something else and alt tab back to

SuperAntiSpyware.  If you do that, you can move through the controls

with the object navigation keys.

When you find the check for updates link, you have to route the mouse to

it and left click.

When the update check finishes, shift tab to the ok button and press

spacebar or enter to click it.

At that point, the tab and shift tab keys magically come to life.

It's not the easiest program in the world to use, but it is usable, if

and only if you open it, move to another window and move back.  If you

don't do that, nothing works.

If you want to keep working with it, let me know and I'll give you

details on where everything is located.
