I'm not sure how you get into the treeview of folders in Windows 10. For
some reason, my Windows 7 machine only shows a list view. I've never known
why. But it would be interesting to see what you would hear in that
treeview when you were on closed folders.

A screen reader only reads text (or alt-text, for graphics) that is exposed
to it to read. It almost sounds like it's now reading the character used
for many things as far as expanded or collapsed or dropdown indication goes.
That downward pointing small triangle sounds like the conversation expanded
indicator in the Tbird inbox for a given conversation you've landed on. I'd
expect that something very similar, but probably saying right pointing, is
said if it's collapsed.

It could be an NVDA thing, but since this sort of symbol has been present
"since dirt" in Thunderbird, and the announcement of expanded or collapsed
had been, too, I suspect something's creeped in on the Tbird side.

Are either of you still getting expanded/collapsed announcements for
conversations or in the folder tree? Or is that weird triangle announcement
being said everywhere, or perhaps only in, say, a mailbox list of messages
but not the folder tree?

This is an electron issue, skype are aware of this, and are trying to fix it. If you just hit alt and hit it again your tab will work. We discussed this on my list a few months ago actually, which is why I can give you the tip.

Hi. I am running the most recent nvda.

When I open skype or go to an application and change again to skype, the tab key doesn't read the controls. I know that they are there because I used the ocr to recognize the window.

So, I pressed alt and navigate in some menus using the arrow keys. When I exit the menu, the tab key read the objects as it would do in other applications.

I reproduced it 2 or 3 times.

Ok, try tabbing and using object navigation. again, we cannot mouse over things per-say. Read the part of the nvda manual regarding object navigation and screen review. It’s a very good read. It might put you to sleep, but still glance at it.

Your explanation may explain why I didn't hear any announcement. I don't have Thunderbird set to group messages.

It should be verified if this is heard in other treeviews.

Are there advantages in getting CodeFactory voices, vs. those from Tiflotecnia?

Does someone from you have the following Problem as well?

Can’t assighn heading. When Pressing alt+1 or going into the style to Chose the headings NVDA and Word Freeze. I have to Restart NVDA and then I also have to Restart word. The same happens also when I move through tables with tab or shift plus tab. When I want to turn the UIa-automation for Word  both programs freze again and after restarting the box for the UIa-automation is still checked. I can’t send loggs unfortunately because it frezes and I have to Restart it gain. Restarting does not work from the first time I have to wait aproximately  30 seconds. NVDA also freezes when I move between the lines in word, too. But this happens for a very short time.

I am Looking foreward to receiving your feetback!

Believe me, I have spent months looking into this, and with no resolution.

It does appear to have something to do with whether a given Groups.io user, who's using the email interface, is using HTML formatted email (which is pretty much the default these days) versus plain text, but even that does not map perfectly.

The issue has been reported to Groups.io support and that's the best I can do about it.  I encourage members to keep HTML formatting turned on in their email clients for multiple reasons, not just this one.  I do not yet have an example of someone who uses HTML format having a missing Reply to Sender link at the bottom of their messages.

And I stand by my recommendation of last night to first use an SFC/DISM run to see if that fixes your issue, followed by a Windows 10 Repair Install.  I cannot find a single other person who's experiencing what you're experiencing in browse dialogs for ungrouped folders.  I'm not doubting that you're experiencing it, but I do believe that something's wrong in Windows itself that needs to be fixed.
