Re: NVDA not working with INSERT+F7

For me, capslock + F7 brings a popup "Do I want to turn on caret browsing?" from the Chrome browser.  Version 2020.1 Interestingly, With input help on(capslock + 1) and I press capslock + F7 this reports NVDA + F7 and not the expected "Browse mode elements list."

capslock+F7 (or Insert + F7) in Chrome browser gives me a popup to start caret browsing in the browser.  I am using a desktop keyboard on my laptop.

You should take a look at Audacity. It is amazing, works with NVDA and
is free.

I looked at it very briefly awhile ago out of curiosity. I still have it
on one of my machines and unless others discuss Wave Pad, I'll write a
little about it after I look at it and play with it a little again to
refresh my memory. This may be a case where screen review, object
navigation, or both, are necessary to get good access to the program.

Aside from that, are there certain specific things you want to do with the
programs? If so, telling us what they are may result in discussions of
the best programs to do those specific things. the programs you are
asking about may be the best or there may be better ones even if
accessibility or usability is good for all of them.

I don't use either of those, but I do use the zulu dj software.
For basic stuff it is accessible, but the buttons are not labeled and you
cant speed up and slow down pitch with keyboard.
But for basic dj'ing and crossfading and cuing it works great.
Hope this helps

Hi All,

Does anyone have any information about using NCH software's WavePad and
MixPad with NVDA? I'm not getting much speech feedback adding tracks and
in general and just wanted to see if anyone had info about a tutorial for
either or both for NVDA users.

Thanks, Jonathan

Re: Can’t save NVDA configurations

Are you using an installed or portable version of NVDA?  And also which version?  If portable, where is it located?  It would need to be somewhere you have write access to.

If you press NVDA+control+c to save settings (or choose "Save configuration" from the NVDA menu by pressing:  NVDA+n, then S) - does it save the settings then?

Quentin.

Hi all.

I used WavePad for a small edition. The accessibility is good, but I only use this audio editor for insert a part of other audio in a part of an audio recorder or small operations, with the version free. And in this case, if I want select a part of the audio for delete, when you press shift+ arrow keys the audio also is playing but more faster.

For complete works, I prefer Reaper, or a good option is also Audacity. Now, I use Wavepad for smalls and fast editions like delete a part, add other, join, and for more things Reaper, but also I have experience with Audacity.

Regards.

Yeah..I have played with it a bit myself. But when my recently imploded band recorded our stuff, we used Cubase and I didn’t do the daw work – and I’m one of those people who bought Goldwave and, it suits my personal audio editing needs somewhat better though it is not a multi-track editor. So I haven’t really touched Audacity in years.

Ding, ding, ding!!   It's also accessible and it's also powerful.  Unless you're a professional who's doing this stuff constantly, which I am not, Audacity gives you tools you can't get otherwise without cost, and the tradeoffs with speed and "beauty of UI" are more than worth it, at least to me.

There are lots of screen reader users, regardless of whether it's NVDA or another, that use Audacity because of its accesibility in every sense of the word.

Hi,

I don’t know about these 2 programs, but I do use their transcription software, Express Scribe. It is nearly completely accessible. One can use a demo copy first to try it out before purchasing. I did buy the professional version and the price was reasonable.

Hope this helps,

Janet

Re: Audio Editor!

No biggie, at all.

It is, however, the reason that I put what follows in the Group rules, and that's not to make you, or anyone else, who has the occasional accidental stumble feel bad, but to prevent some of those stumbles to begin with:

In order to make your experience, and those of all other members, as pleasant as they can be, we ask members to follow these practices:

1.  Use threaded or conversation view in your e-mail client program or webmail and reading through the entirety of a topic before replying.  It gets you completely up to speed and avoids a lot of repetition.  If you choose not to use threaded/conversation view, please take the time to read through all messages from the group that are in your inbox prior to adding any reply to the group.  It’s the only way you can be sure you’re up to speed on any topic when not using threaded/conversation view.

2.  Reading through all new topics before replying, as topics have a tendency to get split upon occasion and often an answer ends up being in a separate topic.

Hello,

Is there an audio editor other than Gold wave  that will let you record drops along with the music bed underneath the voice?

I mostly want to use it for simple recordings from 30 seconds to one minute in length.

Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Regards,

Thomas.

Re: MixPad and WavePad - NCH Software

Yeah, Audacity ias a multi-track editor; I think Wavepad is supposed to be simpler and more comprable to something like Goldwave (except perhaps not even as feature-rich as that). If you want true project-style editing you need something like the other programmes you mentioned and have a bit of experience with..Reaper, Cubase, or, indeed, Audacity, though people I know who have more audio editing experience say it’s not the greatest thing to work with (slow and clunky, mostly).

But, of course, Audacity is free.

Re: MixPad and WavePad - NCH Software

Giles Turnbull

Hi Jonathan. I use Wavepad every week to edit mp3 recordings and, although I don't do much that is advanced, I'm not sure that it will do what you're hoping it will. I don't think it lets you add tracks in the way that Audacity or Cubase will. I've used it to copy parts of an mp3 and save it as a separate track and then inserted it at a specific point in a different mp3 but I don't think you can put that section as a second track with the other mp3 as track 1. Something I used to do in Cubase was to record different instruments on their own tracks and then choose which tracks to have muted and which to leave unmuted, which is something I think you can do in audacity but not Wavepad.

Regarding accessibility with NVDA, I find Wavepad very accessible. I did have a small problem with an update once ... I use Wavepad mostly to amplify tracks, and one update made the amplification settings dialogue inaccessible, and they also changed the interface which I didn't like. I switched back to the version I'm using now, 7.12 and am very happy with it. I use the paid Masters Edition and I can also say that their tech support is very helpful if ever I've had a question.
