You should have both Adobe and qRead on your system if you want, imo.
I like qRead mostly because it is fast as hell. If you set Adobe to load the entire document, which is wise if you really want proper functionality to work, but then try to open a really large file, you've no doubt noticed how irritatingly long it takes to process. qRead can do this in just a few seconds. So I like how small and snappy it is by comparison.

However, sometimes you will just need the Adobe product instead. qRead doesn't always seem to show document formatting properly. You can't print from it if I remember right, and anyway, if formatting is wanky, you wouldn't want to. You can't fill out forms. Etc, etc.

Re: itunes latest issue

well you need to remove itunes 12.9 it does appear it has issues with things.

maybe you need to tell apple about this go to google search for itunes business, download that, remove itunes, delete your library*.itl files in your music folder, install itunes business, then re add all your folders back shouldn't take more than a few minutes to do that as they will be in your itunes media folder, you will have to sign in to the store and there is a button which I forgot to customise the menu for the dropdowns but then you will be fine.

It does appear that there are access issues with itunes 12.9.

Well they say its an nvda issue, I wouldn't mind except itunes is the
only way to update things, saying with the death of the store on
windows, unless I use it for podcasts and such on windows which I
probably won't there is almost no reason for me to ever use it except if
I need to store a full backup, and I know a program like contacts backup
will work for contacts, the rest is on icloud and the storage rates are
fair enough.

It does appear that the itunes universal and the itune pc app have the
same interface but the fact is I do wander if the itunes app was
accessible in the first place, I never needed to check.

However, while I will soldier on with this, this latest issue may push
me off of ios, not because its quite accessible but if I can't use the
windows configuration and sync software properly then if it goes pair
shaped then I have no chance at all.

On the other hand, with android the chance that my software to do things
from windows is going to be accessible is probably low to and I know
where to get apple stuff and it is only 1 single system to learn which
is probably why I will still end up using it, as long as I have an old
device, this latest issue is starting to make me think twice about
putting all my stuff in the apple environment.

I have family now with apple devices with a lot of stuff, once your
stuff is in apple its going to have to stay there and you will have to
continue to use it, and while I won't get the latest something I am
seriously thinking on my next device being with the competition.

To be honest if I didn't care for apps and as long as I have a 32 bit
unit about I can continue using symbian phones for the rest of my life
but there are so many reasons to actually get up and use apps these days.

Have any of the devs looked at the itunes 12.9 window and see exactly what it is, the universal app and the desktop versions appear to be the same, menus and the like work, the main window is not visible to nvda.

And since it works with just about everything, I am now wandering if its a simple thing.

I can't fix it, but maybe there could be an addon for itunes universal and that would work with both versions.

This knee jerk about apple being totally crap well it is a knee jerk reaction, but to be honest if its just an communication/ interaction issue maybe this will help with access to other windows.

If others agree with you, fine.  I'll take that into account and if there is good reason to do so, a number of people agreeing and no one disagreeing, or those who disagree seem to present weak reasons compared with those who agree, I shall consider that I may be wrong.  But I'm not just going to crumble into a quivering mass of doubt and concession just because you make a statement.

I got an invitation from a member here in 2016.  I went through the registration process.  That's where the process stopped.  Nothing comes back.

If anyone, and I do mean anyone, can complete a new account registration for Webvisum there are a very great many who would love to know how to do so.  I haven't seen a single example of success in several years and know that my own, following their instructions and getting an invitation from a member, went into the great bit bucket in the sky.

Re: itunes issue

Well I am using 12.6 now thanks for that suggestion.

The issue is that apple uses the universal app system now for both the itunes things app and desktop.

I am back on itunes business, the main reason I update itunes is for the latest apple os updates, but to be honest I guess that doesn't matter, 12.65 works, had to recreate my library and the store sucks but at least I can use it now.

Itunes is a bit clunky but so is outlook, I don't mind the app now I have gotten used to it.

Once we can get the main window of the app to play with nvda nicely we will be ok.

Though to be honest I like my app deployment back again.

I do want to be able to use the latest, and to be honest apple hardware while expensive is still something I like, icloud is a bit better, storage plans are good, someone has  on twitter that ios 12 gold release is really good.

If they would get their windows ports of icloud and itunes working reasonably well well who knows.

Apple accessibility do know, and its probably a simple matter, itunes universal app is the norm, the desktop version is the desktop version but using the universal app system.

The menus and dialogs work well enough.

Tell me about it, we use a software for our work, it costs like a million bucks and about 300,000 a year to keep it licensed, and it is HTML based, and we have to use just about every element control you can think of to use it, and when you arrow past an edit field that has something in it, it, like a date, it changes the date according to the direction you are arrowing, and some combo boxes you jump to start reading the items, but then jump back to the previous combo box.
It's very challenging on one's patience.

Here is not the place for a rant, but I will say this, even when a page is so called accessible the main gripe I have is confused layout, over the top complexity on a single page and controls that work completely differently in different places like edit areas that keep saying invalid input as you try to type into them or combo boxes that sometimes work normally at other times jump about as soon as you move them.

The people making web sites forget one ruling factor for the blind is there is not any easy way to get an overview and go straight to the bit you want, as normally you have no idea what the bit you want is called or even if its on the page!

I might add, if it takes assistance from a list for help getting through a

then even if there is a non-basic solution that was later learned by help
from a list, I don't consider the page to be accessible.
I'm glad we can be here to offer assistance, but most Blind users struggle
to learn all the commands we teach them, and if these things are
challenges for those of us who can do just about all of it, then what hope

No, it's not addware.  There is a setting in chrome that allows those popups about tech news, and my son knows which one it is, but I personally haven't been able to find it in my copy of chrome, so I need to ask him again which setting it is to turn it off.  The news titles pop up in the system notifications area on the pc.  The setting in chrome turns those pop ups off, so they won't do that anymore.  I've looked through my settings, and couldn't find which setting was causing it, but I'll ask him again and repost here after I get it turned off.

Those don't bother me as much as the flippin' login to my apple drive that keeps popping up every half hour or so, which seems also to be triggered by my first opening of chrome after a reboot.  I'd really like to turn those off.  I'll log in to the silly thing when I want to use it, not until then, so stop asking me already.

Has anyone else had ads popping up when Chrome is open?

After I close Chrome, I have to bring up the task manager and close several more instances of it to keep the pop-up ads from happening.

Chrome loads itself with multiple instances for more stability, each instance for a different process.

But I have gone through settings and seemingly turned off anything related to pop-ups and notifications, and it still happens.

Given the increasing popularity of Chrome among blind users, this article from Kim Komando is important.  The Chrome designers are implementing a change which is very bad for security, dumbing down the product for asthetics.  Let's hope the protests from security experts and others cause them to remember that they are not supposed to do harm, as part of their founding principles.

I said what I know, based on years of seeing people ask for invitations on lists and successfully signing up.  I don't recall when I last saw such a conversation but I think it was somewhere between a year or two ago.  Sorry I had the unmitigated Gaul to disagree with your inerrancy.

I'm perfectly willing to admit that I'm wrong when presented with good evidence.  Please present such evidence if there is a disagreement and I hope others present their evidence or experiences as well.

Gene,

God only knows why your general stance is to say "black" when anyone else says "white," but it's as annoying as hell.

About a year or two ago I complained, perhaps that link wasn't there at that time, because they could of told me about that when I spent hours on the phone with them trying to resolve the problem.
I had to figure out the cookie thing myself.
That is good to know now.

Uhh, this is not true.  When you are on the accessible pages, there is a link on the page (I don't remember where, at the bottom most likely) that says return to desktop version of the site. Just click on that link, and you're back to the non accessible version of the site.  Why they remove functions from the accessible version of the site is something I'll never understand about companies who make mobile/accessible versions of their sites, but in most cases, they provide a method to get back to the desktop/main version of the site if needed.  I ran into this when I used the accessible version of the amazon site, then couldn't purchase/borrow kindle books on the pc.  I was extremely irritated until I found that link.

If you are happy with the access pages for your only Amazon page option, then going to the access page is okay, but I dislike the lack of detail on the access pages, and once you go there, you will never get back to a regular amazon page again, no matter how hard you try.
You will have to use a different browser or remove the access page cookie they put into your browser.
I wasted many hours figuring this out because no matter what I did, I could not ever get a normal Amazon page after going to the access site.

I've also noticed this  issue lately. You might try www dot amazon dot com slash access. I've  written this out because my BrailleNote Touch doesn't always translate web addresses correctly. Anyway, I haven't tried buying a Kindle book using this  site, but I was able to order an Echo Dot today without any trouble so it's worth a looksee. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I will the next time I have a return.

That does not happen often, and maybe that is why Amazon hasn’t had a lot of complaints.

Sounds like the same problem NVDA has with checking out/purchasing books on the site.  Maybe the same set of keystrokes will do the task.

Tab to the button, use the NVDA-numpad minus key to move the NVDA cursor to the button/link, then press NVDA-shift-numpad enter, and the button/link gets hit properly.  Give that a try and see if it works for you.

Hi,

I’m on a Jaws list at home, and I sent this issue to this list, because I could not check an item for returns to Amazon.com, and no matter what I did, it would not work, and that is twice I have had to call their customer service about this to return an item, and they told me that the disability department will be notified, but nothing ever happens.

I tried it with both Jaws and NVDA and three different browsers.

I am more proficient with Jaws, so I’d like to know if maybe there is something I don’t know about NVDA that could have done this for me.

Here’s part of the thread explaining the problem, there is my message and one or two replies of Jaws users that could not do the same thing…

Hi,

Jaws 2018, Windows 7 & IE.

I need to return an item, but I cannot because I cannot check the item.

I have moved to it with the X key and enter and space bar don't check it.

I tried insert + F5 and moved to it, and entering does not check it.

I try the continue button every time, in case it is checking it but not

saying

checked.

I have tried the number pad mouse click and that does not work.

Any other ideas?

have you tried tabbing away and back to the checkbox.

sometimes the status of the box will be spoken if you do this after you

press enter or space bar on it.

have you tried tabbing around on the page after the virtual cursor is turned

off.

sometimes if you start at the top of the screen and keep tabbing you will

land on the check box, edit box, combo box etc.

If I toggle the PC cursor, there is no checkbox.

Re: google domains configuration web site seems inaccessible

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Here is not the place for a rant, but I will say this, even when a page is so called accessible the main gripe I have is confused layout, over the top complexity on a single page and controls that work completely differently in different places like edit areas that keep saying invalid input as you try to type into them or combo boxes that sometimes work normally at other times jump about as soon as you move them.

The people making web sites forget one ruling factor for the blind is there is not any easy way to get an overview and go straight to the bit you want, as normally you have no idea what the bit you want is called or even if its on the page!

I might add, if it takes assistance from a list for help getting through a web page, for someone who has pretty good computer and screenreader skills, then even if there is a non-basic solution that was later learned by help from a list, I don't consider the page to be accessible.
I'm glad we can be here to offer assistance, but most Blind users struggle to learn all the commands we teach them, and if these things are challenges for those of us who can do just about all of it, then what hope is there for the majority of screenreader users?

Seems like we are losing ground in the area of accessibility in this regard.

Hi folks,
I am trying to configure my web domain on google domains but while using NVDA and Firefox, when I go to domains.google.com and log in, the tabs appear, but when I navigate, for example, to the configure dns tab and press enter, or nvda/numEnter the options which are supposed to appear don't seem to be available to me with NVDA. I have not confirmed that they do appear on the screen, all I know is that I cannot get to them using my conventional methods, arrows or tab.

Any thoughts?

I’ve seen others report extreme memory usage related to Chrome before. Surely google’s looked into it.

I do like how Chrome is very fast and responsive, at least to start with. Thing is, I never end up using it for longer periods of time and that’s when most of the problems apparently start happening.

Hi,

I don't have many open and tend to close them. I'm not sure if I have a setting ticked that interferes with the memory issue or not but I may try and revert to factory defaults etc.

I do use firefox too, but chrome seems to be working well until this issue cropped up.

Hi,

Chrome opens each add on in a separate instance.

If I close one process chrome.exe, it may report that ublock origin has crashed, etc.

However I haven't seen these popups that you speak of.

What I am seeing, though, is chrome using ridiculous amounts of ram. Right now it is managing to take a machine with 16 gb of ram to its knees rather eloquently.

With regards to Chrome,

Has anyone else had ads popping up when Chrome is open?

After I close Chrome, I have to bring up the task manager and close several more instances of it to keep the pop-up ads from happening.

Chrome loads itself with multiple instances for more stability, each instance for a different process.

But I have gone through settings and seemingly turned off anything related to pop-ups and notifications, and it still happens.

Thanks.
