I think you will find that this was being worked on by Jamie before he was poached erm moved to Mozilla :-)
Also it would seem to me that the biggest headache to future proff nvda is getting it ported to a later version of supported Python, and I'd imagine any work on such a complex revision would be easier done then. Just my thoughts.

Hello, I just browsed all the PRs of nvaccess/nvdaGitHub and found that New speech framework including callbacks, beeps, sounds, profile switches and prioritized queuing is still in the PR. Will this feature be met with us later?

What are NVDA versions 17xx and 1803?

I thought all NVDA versions were named YYYY.Q where YYYY is the year and Q is
the quarter, sometimes with a bug-fix release suffix such as 2018.3.2.

Are these internal developer version numbers perhaps?

NVDAPR, ISSUE big collection

Hi Recently I watched GitHubPR for nvaccess/nvda, and ISSUE. It is found that there are still 54 PRs, and 2,317 ISSUEs have not yet been resolved. The earliest can be traced back to 2016, and the latest is now 2018. The following is a PR New speech framework including callbacks, beeps, sounds, profile switches and prioritized queuing https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/pull/7599 #4273: Report numbers as single digits, double digits , Tripple digits, or words. https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/pull/5930 Finally, sending this post is to hope that NVACCESS can solve some problems left over from history.

I am afraid it is already here and not 3 years away at least here in the UK

I found last night when I went to my audible Library the download facility now takes you to a so called “help” page which only gives the option of using Audible iOS, Android, Echo etc and Windows 10.

There is an apparent option to use iTunes but if you follow the help on that it states you need the Audible app installed.

As it is now imposible to download directly from the website this is very bad news indeed.

I tried to open a “chat”with Audible support but after stating the problem they did not respond at all- I waited for 30 minutes for any acknowledgement.

So for me as of last night Audible appears inaccessible for blind users of Windows and also for devices like the victor Reader Stream/Trek and Pocket Plextalk which could until last week support the playing of Audible books.

As I am now blocked from accessing something like 60 books that I have paid for over the years I am not a happy customer.

Eventually covers a long period of potential time. Are they going to cause problems for Windows 7 users and Windows 8 users while there are still many around? This sounds like something that may be perhaps three years away. I don't know when support for Windows 8 ends and support for Windows 7 is ending a little over a year from now.

Also, why assume the worst case? Why contact blindness organizations first? Why not discuss it with Audible and see what happens. Audible has a good record on accessibility. If there is a problem, talking with them may cause it to be solved.

Well do not use them myself, but their attitude is surely unacceptable and
arrogant in the extreme in my view. I'd actually report this to the blind
organisations in the country they are in and let them have a poke at them. I
would imagine they might well be shooting themselves in the foot if they
stop supporting things that actually work in favour of some snazzy heap of
windows app which is a format many people seem to think ill conceived and
pretty dire even for the sighted.
Yes its probably more secure, but that is not the main issue.

Hi,
This is mainlya request for the developers, but I'm posting it here hoping
someone tells me I am mistaken.
I use the Aubible website for Audio book purchases and downloads. I
conteacted Audible with a request of helping me fix an issue with the
Audible download manager.
WHile they helped me fix the issue, the woman warned me that they would
eventually phase out the Audible download manager because of the Audible
app for Windows 10.
As of right now, unless I am very much mistaken, NVDA nor JAWS will work
with the Audible app for Windows 10.
I would ask that someone look into this as it may become necessary for
those of us that use the website to use the app to download books in the
future.
The lady I talked to said she could not give me a time frame on when they
would do away with the Audible download manager, but that they had already
stopped updating it.
Regards
Chris

Re: Not able to read pdf file

So this is one of those picture pdf files is it? I always find most of those are rubbish as they are often poorly scanned.
I would personally give people who make them this way if the original file of text exists a damn good talking to, but often they are of very old manuals, and you are stuffed.
OCR is not a precise art even in English, so how it copes with other languages is maybe not good at all.

If it is current info though, appealing to the authors for a proper text file is nearly always the best way forward.
Otherwise you do indeed get lots of odd symbols due to the fact that it does not know what is there when it tries to recognise it.

for me I ran it as normal but when it asked if I was upgradingI unchecked that feature. It then asked the standard questions, if i wanted to keep certain folders. then I let it go. I would check it from time to time by testing to see if I could get narrator running. Once narrator started speaking it asked the same questions as if I had purchased a new pc.

I had forgotten that Steve Matzura posted a direct link to a download site for Windows PE (Windows Preinstallation Environment) versions that are set up to talk when they run using NVDA.   That site is:  http://www.opopanax.net/download/

I have not used any of these talking Windows PE ISOs, but I have no reason whatsoever to believe they would not work.  The correct one for your system could be downloaded on its own, and then you could just download the Macrium Reflect software without Windows PE.

You would still need to create the Macrium recovery media, which should then use the talking Windows PE to build it.
