your assistance

Marisane Moruthanyana

Good day tech gurus

I trust you are all well and still safe.

I am trying to cope.

I need your assistance.

I am working with many pdf documents full of footnotes.

As you may know, even when I convert the document into word, the
footnotes are maintained.

1. how do I access and review them using nvda?

2. how do I virtualise them in order to copy them if needs be?

With JAWS, I press WinKey+semicolon to access a dialog that allows me
to choose from a list of options, e.g. comments, footnotes, etc. I
will then select footnotes to virtualise, review and copy them to a
new location for further review and editing.

How is that done with NVDA?

Your assistance is highly appreciated in advance.

Regards

Re: Using NVDA with Zoom Chat: please, let's get this straightened out

Sim Kah Yong

Hello Bob

Let me share my experience:

1.  Update the Zoom desktop client to the latest.

2.  Use the latest NVDA

3.  Install the add-on zoom Enhancement

4. Press NVDA + Shift + A till you hear report all alerts

5. Always make sure the chat panel is open up with Alt + H

With this, I will hear NVDA read out each chat post as soon as it arrives. I can then respond accordingly.

Apparently not. Let’s discuss this on NvDA-SPL, complete with steps to reproduce the issue.

Hello NVDA community,

As we await NVDA 2020.4, I figured the following podcast would be educational for many of you:

I sat down with Vytautus from Tech VB for an in-depth interview about NVDA, add-ons, accessibility advocacy and many topics. The resulting podcast (about two hours in length) is now available for your enjoyment:

In-depth interview with NVDA contributor Joseph Lee, We talked about Screen readers, Education, and everything else accessibility related – techvb.net

Thanks to Vytautus from Tech VB for inviting me for this interview, and of course, special shout-out to Nv Access people for making NVDA possible and add-on authors for opening up possibilities for thousands. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to reach out to me privately (not on NVDA users group please).

Cheers,

The confusion may be that Microsoft offers versions of the suite that are in the cloud and versions that are on the user's machine. Something may be in the cloud and the interface may be as though it were on the user's machine.

Re: windows essentials addon incompatible

Hi,

In the past, Microsoft gave you recent Windows 10 releases without intervention. This changed in 2018: Microsoft will not update you to more recent feature updates such as 20H2 unless your system is running a release that’s about to lose mainstream support. As of time of this post, this applies to Version 1909, so it won’t be long before people using 1909 will be prompted to upgrade to at least 2004 through Settings/Update and Security/Windows Update.

Cheers,

Joseph

Is this something I need to call Microsoft accessibility for?

I have no idea how to upgrade my windows;

I thought I was getting the latest and greatest because it always asked me to run windows updates?

Also,

I’m not sure what to do if I had a Microsoft account username and password;

(I have no idea what these are);

Please advise as you like.

Hi,

Yes. An alternative is Resource Monitor add-on, and if that’s installed, press NVDA+Shift+number row 6.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi,

Which version of Windows 10 are you using? Windows 10 App Essentials 21.02 requires Version 2004 (May 2020 Update) or later.

Re: NVDA 2020.4 Release Candidate now available

Thanks Louise,

Joseph, have you encountered the issue Louise describes with add-on updater and NVDA's updates blocking each other?

Louise, at worst, yes you can check for updates, or NVDA will check again the following day and (as long as add-on updater doesn't find anything to jump in front again), you should get the notification then.

Quentin.

Hi.  The message boxes for the update from the beta to the release candidate and NVDA add-on updater seem to block each other somehow.  After I'd updated my add-ons, I lost the update information for the release candidate.  I had to use the "check for updates" function to complete the process.

Thanks,

Louise
