WinTenApps 18.09.1 released
#addonrelease
Hi all,
Windows 10 App Essentials 18.09.1 is now available. This release fixes an issue seen in recent modern Calculator updates where NVDA played error tone or appeared to do nothing when announcing unit conversion results and other calculations. As always, the new release is just an update check away… or almost.
You’ll find out why I was a bit hesitant above very soon. Cheers, Joseph

Cristóbal
You know… Someone was able to crack this nut once and while it’s a bummer that Webvisum was dumped, it apparently wasn’t impossible to put together the necessary tools to develop it. Other then the Accessible Apps guy who was charging something like $3 a month for a CAPCHA solution, no one else has really given a shot to recreate a similar one. Sure it sucks that you have to maybe pay for something that can be argued should be free, but those are the breaks. That or another intrepid developer can invest their time and money and skill into an accessible CAPTCHA solver out of the kindness of their heart until something’s actually done about the inaccessibility. Even if you pay, just deduct it from your taxes. That said though, I can’t recall the last time I really had an issue with a CAPTCHA. Everything’s the I’m not a robot or audio option for the most part now.

It doesn't work on free books as you cannot gift a free book. If the book is $0.00, there is no "buy for others" option. Otherwise, that's a decent workaround.

Re: itunes latest issue
Mary Otten
I’m not so interested in being fair to Apple in this instance. Microsoft has made the office suite reasonably accessible on the Mac and even on I devices. Apple hasn’t done that well with iTunes or iCloud for that matter. As somebody who owned a Mac for years, hoping that Apple would catch up with Accessibility there and eventually I went back to windows, I’m disgusted. Far more people in this world use windows then use a Mac. I love the eye devices. Apple needs to step up his game on windows. It’s that simple.

itunes issue solved in a round about way
Hi all.
Well I have sort of solved my issue of itunes 12.9. I first uninstalled itunes then tried the app from the app store. The app does the same thing, it appears that apple desktop itunes and apple itunes app are the same. The issue then is this, it appears that the main window of itune is not visible to nvda, it may never have been that way, it was when true desktop interfaces were used, why its not visible is unknown, maybe someone can look at that. At any rate, when I loaded it in nvda and did an nvda b I got just window suggesting there was in deed a window, shift tab got unknown and blank so the way the main window is being presented is well just not happening, I was able to get a partial read with narator, and I may have to resort to using that for now. It does make sence for apple to merge the 2 apps but it is a bit of a problem now.

I've also noticed this issue lately. You might try www dot amazon dot com slash access. I've written this out because my BrailleNote Touch doesn't always translate web addresses correctly. Anyway, I haven't tried buying a Kindle book using this site, but I was able to order an Echo Dot today without any trouble so it's worth a looksee. Hope this helps.

I said what I know, based on years of seeing people
ask for invitations on lists and successfully signing up. I don't recall
when I last saw such a conversation but I think it was somewhere between a year
or two ago. Sorry I had the unmitigated
Gaul to disagree with your inerrancy.
If others agree with you, fine. I'll take
that into account and if there is good reason to do so, a number of people
agreeing and no one disagreeing, or those who disagree seem to present weak
reasons compared with those who agree, I shall consider that I may be
wrong. But I'm not just going to crumble
into a quivering mass of doubt and concession just because you make a
statement.
I'm perfectly willing to admit that I'm wrong when
presented with good evidence. Please present such evidence if there is a
disagreement and I hope others present their evidence or experiences as
well.

For those interested, The way I do it now on Amazon for Kindle books is through object navigation.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
From the top of the page, use the h key to get to the first heading, an unnumbered level heading called "buying options." Using Desktop layout as that's what I know. All commands using the num pad. Use the nvda+2 combination to enter the buying options dialogue. nvda+6 and nvda+4, to move back and forward through the dialogue. Here you'll hear the regular price of the book, digital price if different, kindle price if lower or free, if it's available through kindle unlimited, and finally a buy now button. NVDA+enter, to activate your selection. Again, desktop layout, all choices in this case using the num pad

We don't know that it isn't adware. The
nature of the popups wasn't described. Furthermore, I don't know how many
people get them. I don't get them when using Chrome.

It doesn't imply that the person hasn't used it in
the past. Someone may ask because they want to resume using it after not
having done so for awhile. Also, I expect that you can set up an
account. People were doing so for years, long after Webvisum was monitored
by the developers. What people need to do is ask already existing members
for an invitation. I've seen many such requests on different lists.
Because Webbvism isn't monitored by the developers any longer, you can't get an
invitation from the developers as you could years ago. But I see no reason
that you still can't from already existing members.

Hi Paul, Press WINDOWS+. or WINDOWS+; to open the emoji panel, then either right arrow through the items in the current section, press tab to move to the sections and arrows to choose a new section, or start typing to search for emoji, eg "cake" 🍰, "Smiling" ☺or "firetruck" 🚒 (as with many other search fields, you don't necessarily have to type the full thing - I typed "fire" to narrow the results down to a handful to get the fire truck). Press ENTER to insert your chosen emoji, and escape to close the panel. Regards Quentin.
