I don't know if this works in all browsers that support browse mode. it
does work in some.
I am using movement commands for the desktop keyboard layout.

Be in object review.
Use numpad 4 and 6 by themselves. 4 will move back and 6 will move forward.
You are moving by word. To move by line, use 7 and 9. To move by letter,
use 1 and 3.
When you get to the beginning of what you want to select, issue the command
NVDA f9. Move to the end of what you want to select and issue the command
NVDA f10 quickly. You should hear something indicating that text was
selected. To copy text to the clipboard, issue the command twice quickly,
not once.

Hi All,

I am testing a web application called “Hypothesis” and need to be able to
select text while in browse mode, separate from the caret. Is there a way
of selecting text with NVDA in one of its object modes so that I can have
the main browser cursor elsewhere?

Thanks,

Jonathan

NVDA in windows terminal on older Win 10 versions

Christian Schoepplein

Hi,

I have to use Windows 10 version 1809 on my laptop for my job. With this version I have problems to use the windows terminal. I can't e.g. not read file listings.

On my private laptop with Windows 10 version 2004 installed I do not have those problems.

On both systems the current stable version of NVDA is installed, NVDA 2020.2.

Is it possible to improve the support of windows text console on my old system on my working laptop somehow? I don't know when a newer version of Windows 10 will be rolled out, so a workaround for Windows 1809 would be great.

Cheers and thanks for any hint,

Schoepp

Re: ALLOW APP THROUGH CONTROLLED FOLDER ACCESS DOESN'T READ

Dear Quentin

There are some blocked apps in the list, but it doesn't read them.

It used to read the blocked apps before I updated Windows and NVDA. Although I think it is more likely a Windows problem.

Kind regards

Do you have any blocked apps?  I must admit I haven't really used this feature, but turning it on, it says most apps will be allowed by default, so maybe it is simply that there aren't any blocked apps?

Does anyone know what to do about this, please?

Try control insert g, home, enter for the NVDA language. For the synth,
that depends which one you're using, but control insert v, alt v should
get you to Voice.

When One Web Browser Is Not Enough: A Guide for Windows Screen Reader Users

In just the last few years, more web browsers have become accessible, and screen reader users can greatly benefit by becoming familiar with multiple browsers. Websites are complex animals. When things go wrong with one browser, your first line of defense is often to switch browsers. Each browser has strengths and weaknesses, so you can pick and choose features among them to get the best browsing experience. And once you are comfortable with one browser, it’s not hard to pick up the basics of the others.

When One Web Browser Is Not Enough: A Guide for Windows Screen Reader Users by David Kingsbury, Assistive Technology Instructor at the Carroll Center for the Blind, is meant to help JAWS, NVDA, and Windows Narrator users to effectively use the four leading web browsers – Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge – in ways that build on the strengths of each of them. Topics covered include: recent trends in web browser and screen reader usage; web accessibility criteria; screen reader keystrokes and strategies for efficiently accessing and navigating websites; browser menu structure; useful web browser features and commands; and JAWS, NVDA and Narrator customizations. Two appendices – a list of keystrokes and a glossary of Internet terms – are included for convenient reference.

Hello Sandra and all,

I use Office 365 in French with NVDA 2020.2.

I tested what you describe on a word document with track changes enabled.

I noticed the same as you mentioned:

While typing a to jump to the next change, everything is ok.

However, going backwards with shift+a jumps to the first change and does not go to all others.

I tested the same document with nvda 2019.2 and 2019.3, and the shortcut works properly.

I can’t explain what the problem is.

Hi,

I am using the current version of NVDA, 2020.2. When I am in a word document with track changes enabled, I can go to reading mode and press a to go to the next change and again to the next change and so on. However, I can't move to the previous change. When I press shift+a, NVDA will tell me no changes were found, although it took me through them when I went forward using just a.

I am using Office 365. Also, I'm using a German version of NVDA, so I don't know if the key to cycle through changes is different in the English version. However, A is the correct key in my version.

Can I do something to solve this, or is this a new bug?

Regards

Sandra
