Thanks brian.
I thought regular expressions might do the trick, but I don't know much about them. The format I usually use is xxx-xxx-xxxx. George

Hi Roger,
This add-on uses the online dictionary https://tech.yandex.com/dictionary/ Unfortunately, I didn't find another online dictionary service with more or less adequate quotas for use by free users. In addition, dictionary articles here are quite detailed. But, of course, if I can find the best service - I will remake the add-on for it. It will be enough to rewrite only two modules of the add-on (dictionary.py and languages.py).

This sounds very interesting. However,
I'm wondering where it gets the data base for all the dictionary
entries? Are they part of the add on itself or does it use an on
line dictionary somewhere?

Introducing the Quick Dictionary add-on
#addonrelease
Oleksandr Gryshchenko
Hi all!
Friends, let me introduce you an add-on that allows you to get detailed dictionary articles for a selected word or combination of words. Dictionary articles contain detailed information about a word, such as part of speech, gender, plural or singular, translation options, list of meanings, synonyms and detailed examples. Such information will be useful for people who are learning foreign languages, or seek to use in communication all the richness and diversity of their own language. I have been using this add-on for a long time, but have only just finished working on it. This is my first NVDA add-on. I studied the code of many add-ons and used in my work some solutions from such awesome add-ons as Instant Translate, Remote, Developer Kit and others. How to use: 1. First you need to select the word you are interested in. 2. Press NVDA + D twice and listen dictionary entry. There are other functions which can be listened to by calling a short help: 1. Switch to add-on control mode via NVDA + D. 2. Press H to listen to the help message. The add-on also has a settings dialog. More information can be found in the Quick Dictionary add-on repository: https://github.com/grisov/quickDictionary You can download this add-on here: https://github.com/grisov/quickDictionary/releases/download/v1.0/quickDictionary-1.0.nvda-addon I will be very glad if my add-on will be useful for someone else. And I would be interested to hear your feedback and suggestions. Thank you for reading this message and I wish everyone a good weekend! Good luck to all! Oleksandr

Re: Inserting a brief pause, intentionally
Hope Williamson
The dash indicates a pause, the synth should automatically do it. At
least mine does. It's just a brief pause, like a split second.

NVDA And SPL Concern!

Hello,
Is there a way that I can change SPL to factory default. I was trying to broadcast on last night, I could not hear my music in my head phones. Inserting a brief pause, intentionally
The question yesterday regarding the reading of phone numbers as digits got me thinking about how I actually do that when reading one off to a person.
I tend to cluster the digit strings for area code, exchange, and then the last four. So I'd say something like 8 1 4 {pause} 5 3 6 {pause} 2 2 5 0. But I have no idea if there is actually a way to indicate a brief pause in a replacement string when you pass it to the synthesizer. Can this be done and, if so, how? -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 It’s hard waking up and realizing it’s not always black and white. ~ Kelley Boorn

Re: book extensively dealing with NVDA or JAWS and the internet
Vaibhav Saraf
Hi All,
I too am looking for a book to get enlightened on some topics which I have described under:
How did the first of the screen readers evolve?
A journey of the screen reader technology from past to where we are today and to where we are heading?
How do different screen reader technologies differ, their pros and cons?
This might not sound more than a part of modern history & literature, but I am hopeful this will provide a bigger picture and help me take up some architectural work in future.
Thanks,
Vaibhav

Re: firefox and waterfox issues.
Hmmm thanks jean, I do have eloquence and if I need to I can use it for that particular site.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I have managed to get round the waterfox crashes to a point. Turning off container tabs and hardware exeleration has helped a bit. Now that doesn't take out the crashing but I can get through most of my net blog checks before waterfox crashes. As long as I open new topics in new tabs in forums, open articles in their own window, and as long as I can start narator, close waterfox and restart nvda then it works. Its not ideal, but I have got it down to where I am crashing once every 3-10 sites instead of just about every site. Interestingly, there is a lot of descussion on readit of waterfox about high memmory usage and addon breakage. The devs can't understand why because all they have updated is security. Nursing the brouser along as I am, I think I can get it to work for me. I am not happy about it of course but at least I should be able to continue to work as long as I do all my web stuff first, then all my cloud stuff, then all my email stuff, then all my update stuff, then all my blog stuff and reboot each time it gets to unstable. So far it hasn't got that bad but still.
