         If you use either of the formats I previously mentioned, whether or not the area code is enclosed in parentheses or not, you can use the instructions that follow.  I am going to give the regular expression (regex) you will want to use first and the replacement string right afterward before giving the step-by-step instructions that would be used to do this for any regular expression and replacement.  You begin copying the regex with the opening open parenthesis and stop at the end of the line.  For the replacement, if you do not want NVDA to say, "area code," before the first three digits then you can omit those two words and start copying at the opening backslash until the end of the line.

regex: \(?(\d)(\d)(\d)\)?[ -](\d)(\d)(\d)-(\d)(\d)(\d)(\d)

 

replacement: area code \1 \2 \3 \4 \5 \6 \7 \8 \9 \10

 

Adding a Regular Expression match to the Default Dictionary

1. Hit NVDA+N,P,D,D   NVDA Main Menu, Preferences, Speech dictionaries, Default Dictionary

2. Hit ALT+A to activate the Add Button or navigate to it and activate it.

3. In the dialog that appears, paste or enter a regular expression in the Pattern edit box.

4. Paste or enter the replacement you want to hear in the Replacement edit box.  If you're using a capturing regular expression this may be a sequence of backslashes followed by the numbers of the capture groups you're using.

5. The Comment edit box should either have a comment that helps you to remember the purpose of this dictionary entry, which is preferable, or be left blank.

6. Leave the Case Sensitive checkbox unchecked.

7. The Type radio button should be set to Regular Expression.

8. Activate the OK button

I have been using this add-on for a long time, but have only just finished working on it.
This is my first NVDA add-on. I studied the code of many add-ons and used in my work some solutions from such awesome add-ons as Instant Translate, Remote, Developer Kit and others.

How to use:
1. First you need to select the word you are interested in.
2. Press NVDA + D twice and listen dictionary entry.

There are other functions which can be listened to by calling a short help:
1. Switch to add-on control mode via NVDA + D.
2. Press H to listen to the help message.

The add-on also has a settings dialog.

I do like espeak for what it is.

Technically I guess I could add a dictionary entry, but I really want to

Hi jean, what I really want is for something to read the prices with the
points in even if they use the coma, but I suppose thats not an option.

I know in math some write with coma instead of the standard full stop
for a decimal to denote large numbers.

The issue is not how its written but that nvda doesn't recognise this in
the way its handled as anything bar a coma in this case its actually a
decimal.

Or you can change the reading of commas to the most or some level.  That way, you will hear them spoken without hearing a lot of other punctuation.

ok, in firefox, something which is say 140 dollars and 21 cents is
140.21

This is fine, in some places on the net they use the coma and not the
full stop char.

now 140,21 in waterfox/firefox is read out as you would expect.

in chrome its 14021.

So I have often found things costing 500000 or something rediculous when
they can be 50.00 or 500.00.

This seems to be a bit of an issue.

Now granted its only 1 site, but its a site I use a lot.

I am not sure if there is a plugin to treat in certain cases the coma
being used as a deciman point where numbers are concerned being
converted to a point.

Of course it goes without saying that this is only on displayed items.

When you buy one its converted normally, go figure.

Its my only gripe with chromium brousers.

To be honest, what I may have to do, is run each group of sites in its
own session, followed by forums that have trouble in a multitabbed
environment.

Thats fine but to be honest, even if this doesn't work, I have had to
turn off hardware exceleration, and autoupdates just to get things not
to crash.

If things continue to crash, I will try turning off image auto load and
finally javascript but its getting to the point that I may have to
abandon the entire mozilla family.

I'd really like a brouser I can use with a no frill interface.

That is, something that just brouses, has things like ublock, secured
https, maybe a privacy manager and sound, or if I can't have that,
something like internet explorer but not be internet explorer.

I do like youtube videos so it would need to process some of these
streaming things but heck, if I had a simple brouser to brouse the net
and something else for other things, I am willing to take it.

Well, I am really close to swearing now reading what you just told me.

I have done a little more, adding waterfox to ccleaner and turning off
hardware exceleration.

I have also turned off container tabs and autoupdates but at this point
I am pritty close to bailing.

As for google, my issue is, well go to www.pbtech.co.nz and look at how
the prices for things are set.

Look how chromium based brousers say them, look at how waterfox/ firefox
say them.

Now you will understand why I don't care about leaving waterfox or whatever.

Is there such a thing as a brouser with a classic interface I can use or
do I have to soldier on with what I have.

I can do it, I guess but really its really bad.

I could refresh my profile but back a couple versions ago and I just
tried things do spike but not like this.

This is not the medium I really want.

history.  I wonder if there is some sort of inaccessible scroll icon.

Yeah, its starting to become a thing I am jumping towards to.
Since firefox and waterfox share some features well that makes sence.
I have downgraded to 2020.8.1, but even in the 08x series the system
has been running hot with the brouser active so there could be a leak
going on.
I like classic waterfox because of its uncluttered nature, but if the
makers of this thing refuse to acknowledge that its a problem on their
end, then I am going to have to abandon noscript 5, and try to use
chrome, edge, brave or something.
I'd ideally like a firefox like classic brouser.
What I may have to do is switch back and fforth.
Right now I am running an older waterfox classic which does what I
need it to do but yeah, I am starting to get that to.
Its random, sometimes its fine then sometimes its not.
It can happen quickly or it can well happen later on and randomly.
Taking into account that I have at least 1 site I use for work which
is known to be slow and a lot slower now because it just is who knows.
Its only happening if I load several things in the same tab, any new
tabs are not effected.
At first I thought it was java or  malware but its getting to crazy
now, worse its even happening on sites like blogspot where I don't
allow any scripts to execute.
I'll give those at waterfox/firefox a little more time to do something
about this but if not I am going to have to switch to chrome for my
day to day work.
Now chrome aint a bad brouser but I like a classic and uncluttered
interface.
Bar the addons from electronic frontier, privacy, badger, and https
everywhere, as well as ublock, the only addon I need is the old
navigation sounds and accessible noscript addon and heck I probably
could do without that but I like control.
Point is I can't go on like this.
I have allready done a hardreset on my ram modules after a firmware
update caused some issues, and while that has sorted out some stuff,
when this goes it turns nvda into junk.
Mostly narator will come up file and closing the program works fine
but the last time this happened this morning it took out part of nvda
keyboard and I had to reboot nvda manually and then restart windows.
I have struggled through this for the last 3 days now since the update
and am just about through.

There is an issue on github of both waterfox and nvda about how the
brouser is really flakey in the latest version.

Aparently firefox has the same issues, at first I thought it was just a
couple sites, but now I can be brousing along and it may be blogspot,
github, another site, and things will become unresponsive.

I thought I'd fixed it this morning but no I hadn't.

If you open sites each in a new tab things do not crash but eventually
if you open things in the same window things will crash and become
unresponsive.

This never happened on the previous waterfox version but if its
happening in firefox as well as waterfox classic then there is a problem.

I like classic waterfox for what it is but if its going to do this sort
of thing I may have to use chrome and hope it doesn't do this.

I don't like what chrome does to some number conversions in sites like
pbtech.co.nz as they don't read decimals right because how the numbers
and such on the site are done but well things just seem to be well doing
bad things right now.

Interested to get to the bottem of this.

I found this addon and it works and is really interesting!! It takes normal laTex or ascii math, you select it and copy it to the clipboard and then press a special NVDA command that you assign from input gestures, and then it converts the math to math-ML and lets you view and interact with it as normal mathML content in the browse mode viewer window.
