Well when I open a folder, assuming there are files in that folder, it
normally will say the name of the  folder and  usually the file. It has
recently seemingly got worse atdoing this.
Far worse, but I'm now wondering if it might be something I noticed in the
programs loaded into the display driver chain.
I did around the same time install Jaws 2018, and although this is Windows
7, I notice it has added a tiny driver of some sort which is there  even
when jaws is not running as a process. Sorry cannot recall its name. If that
does take some significant time or change what is getting to nvda it could
be a factor. I mainly only use Jaws for alexa as it works far better than
nvda in that application.

I'm not sure what you are describing.  Often, in Windows 7, even with old
versions of NVDA, when I open a folder, nothing is spoken automatically,
such as the first item in the folder.  If I move or use speak current line,
what I move to is spoken but I don't know if that is what you are
describing.

Hi,

Well that's frustrating. $115 USD is quite a bit of money to shell out for just vocalizer voices. I wouldn't use them enough to pay that price.

thanks for the link.

Similarly, I'm lothed to throw the ridiculous amount of money at code factory for NVDA eloquence.

I feel that it is a waste of money, and that this company is not one I would trust with a single additional dollar. I purchased this product a while back and I regret it very much. The licensing scheme is stupid, a user has no control to reset his or her own keys if needed without contacting the support, the driver has bugs which haven't been addressed, no new voices are supported even still after being promised an update for years no, and I am supposed to just blindly trust this company to keep supporting their products?

Again, anyone who knows me that this is not how I like to respond to individuals or companies on any list, and I generally have some amount of patience, reminding users of product development cycles and such, always looking for the value in a product or service. After so many broken promises and lack of follow-through, I am unable to put any weight behind this product, or the company represented.

Thanks.

Well all I can say is that in 10 portable nvda is awful on explorer, whereas on 7 its no different.

I do not think uia is involved as if you look at the log no errors or mention of uia is there at all.

Hi,

Okay, this is all new to me. I thought code factory was the only company that sold vocalizer voices hense why I didn't go with them.

Is there a link pointing to this other companie's offerings and how does licensing work?

Similarly, I'm lothed to throw the ridiculous amount of money at code factory for NVDA eloquence.

Again, anyone who knows me that this is not how I like to respond to individuals or companies on any list, and I generally have some amount of patience, reminding users of product development cycles and such, always looking for the value in a product or service. Re: Audio Issues

Tony Malykh

Hi Ralph,
When the beginning of every phrase is cut off - this is a problem of
many wireless headphones. This happens because headphones enter
standby mode after a few seconds of inactivity. Try my add-on
BluetoothAudio:
https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/BluetoothAudio.en.html
it should help with this problem. Ignore the fact that it has
bluetooth in its name, it will probably help with your wireless
headphones as well. You might need to restart NVDA after changing
sound output option for this addon to work properly.

Best
Tony

Dear Friends,

May I ask for your input on this, once again. I am running Windows 10 and
have two audio options: a Realtek sound card and a Logitech wireless headset
(not Bluetooth). Under the NVDA speech settings, when I choose one of these,
the output is through the other one. I want the Logitech wireless headset,
but have to choose Realtek to get it. However, the NVDA sounds do not have
the same good voice quality as when I used to set it to come through the
Logitech option. Especially, the initial sound in each word is often cut
off. Selecting the Realtek option, NVDA sounds come through the Logitech
headset, but system sounds come through the computer speakers.

When I raised these issues three weeks ago, several of you suggested this
would be a driver problem. I checked the settings and drivers, together with
my sighted wife and we found no irregularity. I had another person, who is
more computer savvy, look at this and he, too, said that there was no
evidence of errors with either the Realtek driver or the Logitech driver.

Is it possible to have a driver problem, even though there is no error
alert?

Any other suggestions?

Warmly,
Ralph

Hi!

It's probably UIA-related. On Windows 10 build 1809 I haven't seen it

Windows 7 does not use UIA though which was why I specifically mentioned it here.
I think its simply missing something, as its not every time, only sometimes.
Its only started to happen recently say in the last couple of releases of nvda. I guess it might be that the system has to decide if its uia or not which might stop it getting the info from windows if its significantly slower than it used to be. My machine is still the same though, so unless something I installed is doing tit , I'm at a loss.

Hi!
It's a long-standing issue. I reported it at:
https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/8389
It's probably UIA-related. On Windows 10 build 1809 I haven't seen it
thus far, so it may have been solved there.

Felix
