Thats a bit tricky - it was a request for a letter of reference for a particular student that is generated by the system just for me :) all those horrible radio buttons, just for me :)

I might be able to get the graduate admissions people to generate a test application though,

Just wondering if anyone has run into this problem with NVDA. I am
trying to select radio buttons that are within a table (basically
ranking students on a scale from 1-5 on several criteria, with each
criterion being one row of radio buttons.)

It doesn't matter whether I use firefox or chrome, the radio buttons
don't seem to change state whether I hit spacebar or return, or
whether I am in edit mode or not.

Anyone got any ideas?

Re: I can't select radio buttons on a webpage using NVDA

Jonathan COHN

Well, there are native radio buttons and pseudo radio buttons. If the Web page creator decided to not use the native HTML radio buttons, then they should be adding keyboard handlers and need to add an ARIA attribute to show which button is clicked. Also, most likely these buttons as you describe them will not work on mobile devices.

hitting enter on that can help to open it however I don't always trust
windowsaction/ notiffication centre.

For example, during a clock sync the power dropped off and the router died.

I got it back every thing was out of sync, windows was alegal, everything
wouldn't open and everything was screaming at me.

It was waterfox that alerted me to the fact everything was backwards and
pointed me at my clock, which I changed.

Then everything worked.

But the messages stayed, and I had to tell action centre to ignore them till
they died.

On a similar note, notifications can report a problem, but in a criptic way
and after I have found and solved it.

I was upgrading one of my security/ backup programs.

And immediately I got a notification that I was unsafe, recomending a full
reset and reformat.

I was aware the thing was broken, and continued updating.

After this, I had to clear things.

I have had it say for example that I am using pirated windows, and my
accounts are not signing in and that a whole host of things are screwed and
that I should reset or something.

Yet when I have logged into where I need to go to check, not only are they
not showing no problems but checking on the server side shows that they
never existed.

Or existed for such a little time it didn't matter.

The only time that its ever really worked was when I was updating a business
server for my uncle and the system kept crashing, at that time, windows put
up the usual video card issue with the drivers crashing out.

A small note put that it was a bug with the driver, and to open a website
for instructions, where I found the manufacturer had added to the action
note that I needed a new driver and got a direct link to it.

But that was before things got weird.

Now, I do glance at notifications centre just like I would glance at the
paper, but 99.9% of the time I just clear them, in most cases its fixed, not
a problem or if it is, I can handle it without any issue.

In Windows 7, sometimes in the tray icons is one saying you have one
message, basically some kind of problem report. I seldom seem to
notice it till then, so one might be forgiven for thinking that
invoking the context menu and selecting the open for the centre might
just give a clue to what it is.
However normally this opens a screen with things like troubleshooting,
security, maintenance etc, and seems to have no obvious way to simply
view that message.
Am I missing something obvious?
So if there is a quick way to just get to that message wherever it is
and read it it would be great. It normally tends to be something like
Backup issues or some odd crash of explorer or some such, but one can
never find the actual text until you accidentally resolve it by
guesswork and then you can see it in the old archive. Its a bit
pointless then!

Hi,
Ideally info level should be used unless told by a developer or two to use debug level temporarily. Also, logging levels does not make a difference in responsiveness of a system - other variables such as what programs you're running (both foreground and background), system drivers, visuals and others contribute to performance somewhat.

reset and reformat.

Re: ccleaner servey

One thing though, you get your ccleaner ini file big enough its going to slow down the engine my theory is it needs to read and run everything.

.ini files are just one way to keep parameters for a piece of software, NVDA does use them and so does ccleaner but they occasionally screw up and overwrite the file or corrupt it.

This is the ini file I have used so far.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/kbbbqs8blbyuev9/ccleaner.ini?dl=1

Every few days or so maybe every day or 2 you will have to copy this
file back to ccleaner because its going to reset a few things sadly but
oh well.

Hi all.

For those that subscribe via email to cleaner news they have a servey
with the latest version update and I strongly recomend you take it.

I have completed it with the issues of. 1. accessibility to all
features, quickclean, and interface issues.

and 2. the fact that some settings can not be got to and that some
settings if changed are not honored at all and reverted like
quickclean stuff.

Why they choose to do this now is beyond me but they are doing it so.

Re: ccleaner servey

Who knows they had issues before that, for me they were fine till about 3.2.

I really used to like ccleaner for what it is.

The only reason I don't replace it is that the feature set is good and the interface mostly works.

In fact for those that don't mind a bit of extra work even with the portable I would still recomend it as a good contender.

Sadly, without my ini file or a bit of sighted help to set the interface its pritty much useless.

Even if you take the interface out, I can't trust the installer, access wize, interface excluded if they can get some settings screens working, heck excluding things if I make changes to the ini file I expect something I make to stay and thats it really.

For my users though I don't want them to run my stuff I have had people get into all sort of reformatting trouble after doodling round with my stuff, my tools I trust them but I can use them.

CCleaner was good once it still is if you know what you are doing, but if you don't then it may or may not have the clout in my view it once did.

My suspicion is that they have a team of programmers now they are part of Avast and its a general cock up situation as they could not design their way out of a paper bag.
