Hi, Chris,

I tried the instructions but nothing so-far has worked. I don't know what the next step is unless I do a system restore.

Re: Lots Of NVDA Freezes

Hi Jim,

Could you perhaps send me a copy of your NVDA log after it freezes (I assume it comes back afterwards?  Otherwise there should be a crash log which would be just as useful) - see https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/LogFilesAndCrashDumps for info on that.

Also, you can say Jaws - it's not Voldemort :)  It is useful to know when something which should the same in both (speed of navigating a document, for instance) is sluggish or not working.  Also, if it is something like navigating a specific Word document, if the document itself isn't confidential if you could send me a copy of the document, that can be really useful for troubleshooting too.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi,
So far, I now can predict that if I type fast enough in the Windows search box, NVDA will freeze. The same thing happens on long web pages or ones with lots of scripting. Finally, when it freezes, I can never find the log file.

Finally, and I do not know if this is related, NVDA is very sluggish in Word docs with lots of tables. In General, in Word, it has always been more sluggish than my other screen reader.

If I disable all add-ons, I get less freezing.

Re: nvda on a usb drive

Somebody else will have to help with this. Defender has some new
protection mode or something. You can turn it off but I thought the
latest version of NVDA, or maybe the one before that, could install even
if the protection was on. Ah, here's what I was thinking of, from
2018.1: "• In Windows 10 Fall Creaters Update, NVDA no longer fails to
update when Controlled Folder Access is enabled from Windows Defender
Security Center." Are you using an older version of NVDA? If so you
might want to update your portable copy, if you can.

It would be drive:\nvdaport\nvda to run your portable copy. I don't know what drive letter your USB drive will be assigned though, you'll have to figure that out yourself. Using narrator should work just fine, but in case you know the letter the drive gets assigned, you can run it directly. If it's still on your c: drive, you can also run it directly from there, c:\nvdaport\nvda

Well, as its windows 10, use narrator to go to the thumb drive and
open it, go to the nvda folder and open it then find nvda.exe and run
it. After that you just need the nvda menu and tools etc as
previously described. Of course if you have UAC on you may get an

If I understand what you're talking about:

1. Login to your new profile.

2. Run NVDA from the USB drive.

3. Go to the NVDA menu, tools, and pick install, or whatever it's
called. I can't tell you because I'm running an installed copy.
Install, tell it to copy your addons or whatever you need.

4. You're done, enjoy NVDA.

Waterfox is based on ESR versions of Firefox.  I may have commented on this a number of days ago.
There is a new ESR version of Firefox and so Waterfox now would be expected to have some or perhaps all of the problems of Firefox.

How bad the problems are await comment by users.

Nothing, I got this to, after I reset my options,  then set them how I wanted, I reinstalled all addons then did a sync from mozilla site, I had to download noscript and some stuff like audio capchas just don't work as well as a few other things without running in safe mode but yeah basically everything works.

Waterfox is starting to use the new quantom engine while maintaining the older codebase, its not a problem, at least I havn't found it much of one.

partially checked

Hi.

I think it came from this or did it come from win10 didn't look.

Anyway its what was used to be a half checked box, usually found in option dialogs and the like, if things are half checked  it means that parts of a setting or group of options are not selected.

You can hit space twice to check it all or uncheck and recheck but sometimes have to right arrow to the list and check everything you want.

In some cases such as some windows settings like for examples the turn features on and off section it could mean part or none of an option is checked, but usally means that something installed part of one thing as a requirement but not everything.

You don't need everything on your system necessarily but still its your choice what you do with the checkbox.

The other place is where multiple atributes say in files exist, ie partly hidden or partly read only.

In 99.9% of the cases, you don't need to fiddle with hidden or readonly files, and in most cases windows will change atributes as you open and save files depending if they are yours, which can be set in the security tab  however please note you may have to turn simple or use sharing wizzard off in folder options to access this.

Or if  you need something windows can change on the fly without the user knowing as long as the files are yours on your account then thats ok.

Hi Rose-Marie
These are some details I found on a software reference site. They refer to Windows 8.1, W7, Vista and XP installations but should be the same for W10. They refer to the C:\Program Files folder but this would be C:\Program Files X86 if it was installed as a 32-bit program on a machine with a 64-bit OS. Note that the text references an uninstaller " C:\Program Files\Common Files\DVDVideoSoft\lib\Uninstall.exe", so if you can find this it may help.

Overview
Free YouTube to MP3 Converter Classic is a program developed by DVDVideoSoft. The most used version is 3.12.74.1224, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. The main program executable is freeyoutubetomp3converterclassic.exe. The software installer includes 5 files and is usually about 88.17 MB (92,448,528 bytes). In comparison to the total number of users, most PCs are running the OS Windows 8 as well as Windows 7 (SP1). While about 35% of users of Free YouTube to MP3 Converter Classic come from Germany, it is also popular in the United States and Austria.

I think it's a 32 bit program.

I'm not familiar with this software.
My feelings are that browsers can uninstall add ons but if its a 32
bit piece of software then good old old version revo is your friend,
as it can uninstall almost anything. However for 64 bit programs, you
need the bulk crap uninstaller which is actually more difficult to use.
This is of course assuming its got a real uninstaller somewhere.

Hi, everyone,

Can you recommend a good program for uninstalling the free youtube to
mp3 converter classic? I tried a program called special uninstaller
but that didn't help at all.

Thanks in advance.

Re: making the menus in libre office talk

Well just uninstall libreoffice and update it, I have 6.05 on here.

Sadly whenever I get a system back from repair or someone sets it up for me, rather than mucking round to see what extras could be on it, I usually like to reformat it and set it up again so I know its set right.

I have been burned to many times by dodgy computer companies.

This screen appears blank, but you can make the drop down menu work in the normal way, if you choose not to select and escape, you can tab around some buttons on the main screen. I think this is merely a focus issue at launch.
I'm using the portable version of Libra here.
If its not working could they have installed some old version on the system?
It no longer seems to need Java.

I'm running on windows 7, which is often what these refurbished machines come with, at least in the UK.

Hi, everyone,

I have a friend who just got a refurvished computer from Computers for the Blind in Texas. She said they installed libre office on it but she can't make the menus talk. Other than that, she said she can work with the writer word processer and the spread sheet with no problem. Is there a way to make the menus talk?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: trying to uninstall the free youtube to mpp3 converter classic

Sadly I have had to not use dvdvideosoft because of all the extras it has even if you don't load them it can be a pain to get rid of.

Even though I have a comercial solution, I have been using youtube dl-g for ages now and its free and opensource and works.

I usually download the lowest audio I can get that being an m4a audio stream then convert to mp3 for playback.

The only way to get rid of this software is to reformat, that, the fact the addware kept changing and the fact they wanted subscription and with the terrible support I got eventually drove me away from using their software.

I used to use online converters but some of those went to.

I don't need to convert that many videos but when I do its mostly net streams and its easier to run archives from winamp as mp3 rather than videos online.

Its probably a lost cause trying to get rid of it the usual way, you have probably realised how bad it is and want to get rid of it.

Even if you do get rid of it the system will be still slightly mangled at least when I had it 3 years back it was.

I would do a full reformat and that will make it go away.

And I would use youtube dl-g which is a gui version of youtube, it works and I have been using it for the past year now.

I allways look at the ad remove to see if its there, but sadly some apps simply contain no uninstaller.

You said you tried a third party uninstaller.  You didn't say whether you had tried the Windows uninstaller.  Try it and see what happens if you didn't.

What happens when you try to uninstall the program?  And another question, what does it matter if the program is uninstalled?  If the program sits there and does nothing, and if it isn't easy to uninstall, as long as it's a legitimate program, as this one is from what I read, and not malware, it makes no difference if it remains on the machine or not.

Most programs don't take much room and this program can be presumed to be very small, so the amouht of disk space you lose is negligible and makes no practical difference.  So why bother?

A long time ago, when I used Windows 95, I found that uninstalling a certain demo removed my Windows 95 Help.  I ran a system restore which restored both the demo and the help.  I saw no reason to bother further and I wanted the help so I left the demo.  It sat there, not taking much room, and doing nothing.

Rosemarie, how many bits the program itself is does not make a
difference. What's important is whether your version of *windows* is
32- or 64-bits.

Re: nvda on a usb drive

John Isige

It would be drive:\nvdaport\nvda to run your portable copy. I don't know what drive letter your USB drive will be assigned though, you'll have to figure that out yourself. Using narrator should work just fine, but in case you know the letter the drive gets assigned, you can run it directly. If it's still on your c: drive, you can also run it directly from there, c:\nvdaport\nvda

Well, as its windows 10, use narrator to go to the thumb drive and open it,
go to the nvda folder and open it then find nvda.exe and run it. After that
you just need the nvda menu and tools etc as previously described. Of
course if you have UAC on you may get an invisible window for that as you
presumably have seen before. I'm assuming this is an admin account you are
installing into.

If I understand what you're talking about:

1. Login to your new profile.

2. Run NVDA from the USB drive.

3. Go to the NVDA menu, tools, and pick install, or whatever it's called. I
can't tell you because I'm running an installed copy. Install, tell it to
copy your addons or whatever you need.

4. You're done, enjoy NVDA.
