To do a search I open Google Chrome.  I then type in something like cookie recipes and hit enter.  I can then use the h key to go through the search results.
With the show bookmarks bar enabled this will not work and you have to hit alt tab then use the h or k keys to review the results.

May have found the issue with using the latest Win 10 App Essentials and
Google Chrome on a Win 10 1809 system.
I have found that if you have Show Bookmarks Bar enabled under the
Chrome settings the bug is present.  Don't have show bookmarks bar
enabled and the bug goes away.
Again the bug I am experiencing with the Show Bookmarks Bar enabled is
when I do a search using Google Chrome I have to alt tab before I can
get to the results with the h key etc.  If I also disable Win 10 App
Essentials the problem goes away.

The Shift key and the Control key both resume as soon as I start typing again. Is there a way to achieve the behavior I am looking for?

Hi all,

For resident baseball fans: I can't believe I witnessed a historic moment
last night: 7 hours of excitement and frustrations, ending with a walk-off
home run at the bottom of the eighteenth inning at the World Series between
Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox.

But at least it gave me an excuse to prepare six add-ons to see the light of
day:

* Enhanced Touch gestures 18.11: brings localization updates.
* Golden Cursor 3.2: localization updates and now compatible with NVDA
2018.3.
* ObjPad 18.11: new and updated localizations.
* StationPlaylist Studio 18.11: various issues with metadata streaming
status announcement startup has been fixed.
* SystrayList 3.0: Python 3 ready.
* Windows 10 App Essentials 18.11: a lot of additions and fixes, some
of them having to do with features from the next feature update (next year).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

* Golden Cursor 3.x is the last release series to support Windows
releases earlier than 7 Service Pack 1.
* StationPlaylist 18.11 is for stable channel users, not LTS.
* SystrayList 3.0 is now Python 3 compatible. Once NVDA declares
transition to Python 3, a final 3.x version will be released for people
running Windows releases older than 7 Service Pack 1.
* A version of Windows 10 App Essentials scheduled for December will
be the last release to support Windows 10 Version 1709 (build 16299).

You can obtain new add-on releases via:

1. Visiting addons.nvda-project.org and downloading each add-on
release.
2. For StationPlaylist Studio and Windows 10 App Essentials, using
add-on update feature provided by these add-ons.
3. Checking for updates via Add-on Updater.

Enjoy.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: NVDA sound breaking up over bluetooth connection

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Are you saying narrator does it too?
I have heard some people tell me that Windows 10 sound is a bit of a heap of cobbled together bits that sort of work.

It does seem odd though that it is nvda and not other sounds.
I'm assuming that windows 10 latest has that dialogue windows 7 had where you can adjust all sounds which are labelled as the source, ie nvda will be one such setting, say, winamp another and system sounds another. I was wondering if it might be level dependent as voices are not really very much like music, most artificial voices seem to have spilkes in them unlike the real person.
I was also wondering how it copes with the bit rates of all these sounds.

I've only tried this with NVDA so far but I receive my first JAWS traning this evening so will see whether the same problem happens. For those wondering if I'm deserting NVDA for JAWS ... no I'm not! JAWS was offered to me and paid for by Student Finance so I decided to take advantage of the offer :)

I asked the speaker manufacturer for any suggestions and they suggested turning off system sounds ... which I did and nothing changed.

Single letter navigation on web searches

Greg Rhodes <gkrhodes@...>

I recently had computer problems and had to reload windows 10 (1803), NVDA, MS Office, etc. I’m using Google as my home page in MS Edge. When I did Google searches prior to computer reload, single key header navigation was very snappy. Post-reload, it is very slow. I used to be able to type “h” and quickly jump from one search to another. Now, NVDA continues to read the first heading for a long time, even though I have hit the “h” again to move to the next heading. Is there something I missed in my NVDA settings that would make this move from heading to heading more quickly? Thanks.

Its better than saying nothing. Sometimes in the shark these are also ambiguous, one suspects because the info exposed on what they do is incomplete and so one has to just indicate they are there to supposedly do something. I often wonder at the logic of page design when nobody knows quite what they will get when they use a control.

Hey Quentin,

I am replying to this e-mail after reading the last in-process.

For me at least, saying “clickable” does not help in deducting if I have to do it or not. In fact, most times “clickable” does not perform an action at all when pressing enter on it.

Regarding profiles, i am using profiles for MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook and Firefox. At work I am using profiles for SAP web based services because they have thousants of tables which in fact are only layout tables but NVDA recognize them as normal tables. So I have to use profiles to disable tables because otherwise I get crazy when navigating through the complex pages.

Windows 10 predictible text is a new function to me, but I find it more useful for tablests and smartfones. I don’t use it on normal keyboards. But I guess it is a very good feature for people with motoric disabilities.

Hi Cindy

thanks for that video, he had more patience than I and the other
screen reader users on the test team had, I just gave up in
frustration and I consider myself a power screen reader user and WP developer.

on a positive note, on that link I sent someone mention that there
would be a "classic" version for us to fall back on.

sorry to hear about the violence, I would find it scary having a
family and not being able to see properly in a situation like that.

cheers

Thanks for that lead, Geof. I'm completely out of touch with all of
this right now k/t years of having to deal with extensive gang
violence in my neighborhood.

Your lead here also led to this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-Vavq4qZVM

The pointer on Rian's page says, "Eric Wright, who made an excellent
video on how difficult it is to use Gutenberg with Dragon
NaturallySpeaking."

I have to put it that way because I'm not able to... cough.. access
the video to verify its content. Ah, the irony... :)

Anyway, thanks again for that lead. I'll try to find ways to help push
these messages further out into the Net.

Cindy :)

thankfully it isn't my default browser.

Gutenberg sucks and it will make life difficult
for us screen reader users, I beta tested and no
one on the accessibility team liked it but
apparently they are moving forward with it anyway.
My team leader quit over its development.

welcome!

I kind of screwed myself because I updated to the

functionality to use it, thankfully they let me
know and told me how to fix it so I am now using
FF 60 with extended release and all is back to
normal and your webpage still works the same as with 56.0

cheers

You install a program like Xampp on your local box to get a server in
place, then WordPress on top of that. Or, if you already have a
server, then just create a database & install Wordpress & CONNECT IT
TO THE DATABASE YOU CREATED.

I've looked at both www.drupal.org and www.wordpress.org . I found the

installed on the server. Does this mean that the
server does all the work, or is there a client program that I install on my
Windows 10 computer that takes care of the
details?

Thanks,
