Hi

Have you tried a portable copy of nvda as well? if you do make sure you put the files into a folder say called nvda  then see if the problem is still there. it might be safer to do it from a fresh copy of nvda from the website.

it may be that your nvda.ini file may be curupted in the installer version? if it works well in the portable then I can give you steps to completely uninstall the installer version so no files are left.

If it fixes the problem you should be able to use the browser as you were

Some times it would also affect the running application on the task bar and

There is no documentation for it in the user manual but I think there should

Re: Inconsistency in Windows Explorer

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

I don't know if this issue is related to unresponsiveness or inconsistency in Windows Explorer/This PC, but here is what happens to me.  When I either move, delete or copy a large file or folder, I get the count up from 0 to 20 to 30 to 50% and so on. When the hard drive stops turning and the operation is complete, there is a phantom window that NVDA still sees that says a percentage of either 100 or something close like 94 of 95%.  I can't get rid of this unless I either press F5 to refresh the folder or alt + tab away from the folder and then back.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and is it related to the sluggishness and unresponsiveness which began this thread?

Hi,

I get this quite a lot of the time.

It's frustrating to see it not be fixed. This is a basic task and this does not plague other screen readers. I've been going on about this issue for quite some time as my work heavily relies on windows explorer and I can't switch to NVDA full time because of this. It seems to crop up the most after deleting, copying, or moving files, folders, or even single files but it can randomly happen at other times as well.

rh-voice

Josh Kennedy

Hi,

I found a new voice for NVDA. It’s called rh-voice. Also discovered the sapi5 version has the best sound. It’s fast and responsive like Espeak. The bdl voice is my favorite of all of them. Best part is this, somehow, you can make your own voices for it and even make new languages, although making new voices for an existing language is easiest. So if I can get the required sentences that have to be recorded, I could have the keynote gold demo voice read all those sentences into wave files and perhaps the author could build a voice based on recordings of the keynote gold tts. I’m not sure if he uses Linux to make the voices. And if he does, if the voice building process is even accessible with the orca Linux screen reader. It won’t be a 100% perfect keynote gold voice, but it’ll be very very close to the original sounding keynote gold tts. And it’ll be a sapi5 keynote gold voice and it could even work on android since rh-voice is also a free android tts, works great with talkback. The website is:

On Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 3:06 AM Brian Hartgen via Leaseylist asked:

Several weeks ago, we were asked if a training course could be created to teach people how to use Microsoft PowerPoint with JAWS. People not only wanted to learn how to prepare visually appealing PowerPoint presentations, (including adding graphical images), but also how to add music or sound to them, run the presentations as slide shows and add or review Speakers Notes.

This training course has now been researched and it is possible this could be produced in January of 2019. Teaching this subject however is very high risk in a number of areas.

As blind people managing our small company, we will need to ensure that visual assistance is obtained so as to include visually appealing graphics of the required dimensions. But most importantly, it is our view that the support currently provided in terms of screen-reading with PowerPoint from Office 365 is simply not sufficient for what we need to do. Conveying this subject in easy to understand terms was always going to be tricky, but to do so when the access you will receive in this area has shortcomings is even more problematic.

A basic example would be accessing the Speakers Notes. These are notes or reminders to you, the person delivering the presentation, as to what you can say above and beyond what is stated in the slide the audience is viewing. There used to be a keystroke which would allow focus to be set to that area of the screen. This is no longer possible. Moreover, if you are using a Braille display, how are you going to read those notes without disturbing visual focus away from the application? A mechanism for listening to those notes also needs to be found. There are also a large number of other inaccessible areas which need some attention.

To that end, as with all our training courses, we would need please a commitment from anyone interested to make the project viable. This would allow for the delivery of the training course together with bringing the existing JAWS support up-to-date.

We have had a small number of people expressing an interest in this subject so far, but whether it goes ahead really does boil down to what kind of commitment we do receive.

The training course would be delivered over a four-hour period in January of 2019. It would include details of many aspects of creating presentations in an accessible way, identifying (as far as possible) whether the presentations were visually acceptable, navigating through slides, working with visual themes, using tables and bulleted lists, editing presentations, delivering your presentation to an audience, and more. A full course outline would be presented if the training course goes ahead.

If you would like to purchase this training course, please write to brian@.... We will then send to you an invoice for payment. Assuming we have enough committed people to make the course viable, then we will present the details formally on our website with a full course outline. The cost would be £50 which is currently $62. We would ideally need to hear from you by 7 December 2018 because that will give sufficient time for the JAWS scripting work to go ahead prior to the commencement of the training course in 2019.

If we do not receive a sufficient response, unfortunately we cannot take this project further because there are many hours of work ahead even before a training course of this magnitude can start to be prepared.

We very much look forward to hearing from anyone interested in what could be an interesting venture.

Good Afternoon:  How is this gmail account set up.  What I'm asking is this a true gmail account, or has this account been set up through an individual host.  This is where a web site is set up. with the name starting with mail which is using gmail.  If this is the case, then the information is not the right of gmail and you don't make your log in to gmail but the site that has been set up somewhere else.  The email will still go through the gmail web site, and you can still use a separate mail program.  This procedure goes back to the Unix programming language days withe .mail profile.

Whether access is POP or IMAP, insofar as how Gmail handles Trash, is irrelevant.  You are correct that when you delete a message it gets moved to Trash (which is the rough equivalent of the Windows recycle bin, since you can restore from it) and if it remains there for more than 30 days it is permanently deleted.

As far as I know there is no storage limit on Gmail.  Now, on Google Drive if you use the free version you get 15GB of storage, but that's not true of Gmail.  One of its early marketing claims was that "you'd never have to delete an e-mail message".  On my oldest account I have over 9K messages, all read, and many of which should be deleted, but with no sign of any limit indicated, ever.  A great many of those have attachments, too.

Also, the same account can be set up for both POP and IMAP access, so heaven knows how Google handles that if someone does it behind the scenes.  My original Gmail account, which was created in 2008, has POP enabled for all messages (even those downloaded before) from September 2008.  I have never used POP access, though, since IMAP is enabled as well and when I have used e-mail clients I have always used IMAP access since I want everything to be kept in sync regardless of how or where it's accessed.

The terrible state of public education has paid huge dividends in ignorance.  Huge.  We now have a country that can be told blatant lies — easily checkable, blatant lies — and I’m not talking about the covert workings of the CIA. When we have a terrorist attack, on September 11, 2001 with 19 men — 15 of them are Saudis — and five minutes later the whole country thinks they’re from Iraq — how can you have faith in the public? I thought I read, and maybe I did read somewhere, that if the GMail inbox is full, it will automatically delete old mail and replace it with new mail.  But this appears not to be true, based on what I read after seeing your messages.

However, I don't know why your trash isn't being emptied.  I've seen in enough reputable places, that GMail deletes trash after a message is 30 days old enough that I think it is true.

I'm curious to know if we can have some people try out latest development snapshot and see if it resolves this?
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: Eloquence with Lates Version of NVDA

Josh Kennedy

personally I just like the sapi5 eloquence because it works with everything. I do have a question though. Why don't they offer the Japanese and Korean and Chinese eloquence languages in the sapi5 version? A long time ago I bought a sapi5 eloquence from computer room services in the UK, and i think in their sapi5 eloquence it offered the japanese chinese and korean languages. But I guess since I own a jaws license which lets me use nuance voices for free with that screen reader i could always just get those languages and use them with jaws, then. I think though the best deal on vocalizer voices is all sapi5 vocalizer voices for $115 from www.atguys.com ...

Re: How to Skip Ahead to Text With NVDA

Gene

The command finds any text on the page.  I'm not sure if it always works properly, though it usually does.  Try the search twice if you think it didn't.  You can just use the repeat search command.  But where were you on the page?  Use control home to move to the top of the page before doing the first search.  I'm not sure if the virtual cursor shows you where you are so make sure with control home.

I very seldom get a not found message if the text is there and if I am searching before its occurrence.  I'm using an old version of NVDA and sometimes the search stops on something above where it should be.  Just using the repeat search command takes you to the right place.  This may or may no longer happen, at times.

When you issue the control insert f command, you should hear search dialog spoken, not anything else like search tool bar.  If you don't hear search dialog, press escape to close anything that might have opened then try the command again.

Moving to the top of the page, for reasons I won't go into now, should prevent you from having different results when you issue the search command in terms of whether you hear search dialog or not.

Insert Control F brought up a drop-down, but erroneously returned Not Found. Does that command only search within the current container type? I was searching for text within a table that had a role of "presentation". Could thta have been the problem? Then I repeated the same search from the location bar, and it brought up a different type of a find pop-up, nad this time found the text and highlighted, but did not do anything when I tried "Say All" (via Insert Down Arrow)

How Accessible is the Plex Server Application for Windows?

Kenny <kwashingtonbox@...>

Well it's that time of the year and I'm starting to see some great deals for popular streaming services.

One being: New Subscribers: Plex Lifetime Pass Subscription $90

https://slickdeals.net/da/p121658710/?utm_medium=em-i&utm_term=18&utm_content=17551012&utm_campaign=8890&dealalertid=56317525&mtid=71&generated=1542327118

I've always wanted to use Plex to stream my massive music library to all of my devices, but the last time I used the server software, it wasn't that accessible.

Can anyone confirm if things have improved with the latest version of NVDA 2018 and Plex running under Windows 10 Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.134)?

Thanks.

Re: Inconsistency in Windows Explorer

Hello Brian,
it happens only occasionally, so a restart of NVDA is not even
required. I just do it again and it will usually work. I'm just
pointing it out as an inconsistency because I see no valid reason for
it to happen even 1 % of the time. Think of me as pedantic and you'd
be right. Being a computer scientist with a strong background in
mathematics does that to people I guess.
It happens on both latest Win 10 64 bit and Win 7 64 bit.
It's an installed NVDA.

Felix

Actually, that looks like the UIA is not working properly.
Its missing the info somewhere.
Is this definitely an installed copy of nvda?
I'm assuming you have done the obvious, restarted with add ons disabled?

In the state you show, does the menu open? If yes open it and close it, can
you then see the files?
I always found Windows 10 explorer slow compared to windows 7 myself, but
in both cases the usual issue is that the file it reads is a different one
to the one windows thinks is current so trying to delete a file results in
the wrong one being removed, not as you have a situation where the system
has no idea of what you might be on!
Is this the latest version of 10? IE which build, and which version of nvda?
