Any way at-all to put the focus-mode settings into a config file please?
From:

NVDA+shift+space temporarily disables NVDA's single letter (browse mode) navigation keys. You can also force NVDA to switch between browse and focus mode by pressing NVDA+space, but again that is temporary, and also that one is a toggle (so it swaps between browse and focus mode and back if you press it again).

Quentin.

Hi Larry,
As Simone said, there isn't currently a way to do this. Perhaps a good question to follow up with is, why do you want to? Either there might be another way to accomplish what you need, or, of course if there is a good reason to do this, it could be something to consider adding.
Kind regards

Re: NVDA beta cycle
Quentin Christensen
Hi Don, We've actually only just changed to this way of doing things ourselves since NVDA 2018.2. Previously we used "Next" and "Master" builds, and there have been a few more changes behind the scenes than simply renaming to "Alpha" and "Beta", so we're taking it a bit slowly to ensure the process works smoothly. Hi everyone:
I am having problems with filling out a form on a website. The particular problem with the form is that I am asked to choose my gender, and their is no combo box from which to make the selection, and there is also no check box. Male female is listed, but the selections cannot be made. I pressed the space bar on male, but it wasn't selected. The form was not submitted. Please has anyone ever had this problem at any time with any site? how did you solve it. Or on the other hand, does anyone know of a fix to the problem? Hope to read a response or responses. Very many thanks. From Ibrahim.

Add-on Updater: 18.08.5 as last stable version for now, few important announcements
Hi all,
First, thank you all for your valuable feedback regarding Add-on Updater. At the moment I’m making changes to the corresponding pull request (NVDA issue 3208) based on your feedback and the add-on code.
Also, version 18.08.5 will hit the air in about half an hour from now. This one fixes a bug where Add-on Updater settings panel didn’t show up properly if there are add-ons with badly formatted manifest data. I also took this time to exclude Nuance Vocalizer family of add-ons from participating in add-on update checks.
Few more important announcements:
Thank you. Cheers, Joseph

Re: installing nvda on new laptop

Another thoughyt on the behavior. did you use
enter or the space bar on the button? I am not familiar with the new
interface but using enter may activate a different button, depending on how the
interface is designed, even if you are on the change button.
This has to do with the concept of the default
button, something which would require too much explanation to be praqctical to
go into here. If you pressed enter, try pressing the space bar and see
what happens.
I'm not assuming what you know or do. I am
saying that, in general, people aren't taught the concept of the default button
and that causes unnecessary problems and makes use less efficient at
times.

Re: Add-on Updater 18.08.4 patch to correct a regression from18.08.3
Clare Page <clare.page@...>
Hi! I think I know what might have gone wrong when I installed NVDA Add-On Updater 18.08.4 and there was no sign of that add-on in the NVDA Tools menu: I know now that I forgot two important things. First of all, Add-On Updater 18.08.4 was a patch to correct a problem in 18.08.3, and I never had the latter version, possibly because my computer might not have been running when the 18.08.3 update came through. Secondly, I forgot that add-ons can be updated without removing the previous version, so it’s possible 18.08.4 might not have worked on its own. As I write this, I have removed Add-On Updater from my copy of NVDA until a version comes out which is not referred to as a patch for a previous one. I look forward to using that add-on again in the future, though, it’s a very useful one. Bye for now! From Clare

Hi! I have just installed Add-On Updater 18.08.4, after downloading its installer using the link in the email below, but, strangely, “check for add-on updates” no longer appears in the NVDA Tools menu. I have also had no notification of any updates to add-ons today, including Add-On Updater: it’s thanks to reading emails from this NVDA list that I knew about the updates to this add-on. While using a previous version of Add-On Updater, I chose to have it notify me of add-on updates, so would that make the “check for add-on updates” option disappear from the Tools menu? Thanks in advance for your reply. Bye for now! From Clare

Hi all,
First, I’d like to thank folks who have reported a bug where NVDA kept playing progress beep when trying to check for add-on updates. The root cause has been identified and a fix is now available in 18.08.4. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the problem, this one must be applied manually: https://addons.nvda-project.org/files/get.php?file=nvda3208
