I'd not know how this could be changed accidentally. Would she be likely to have system restore on and be able to go back to a couple of days ago, or is it off in 10 by default. Even then, I'm not sure it has any effect on the installed keyboard language. i have had issues in the past with word deciding to use American english templates for documents for no good reason which really fouls up the spell checker big time!

It sounds like your computer has switched from thinking it has a UK keyboard
layout (which has a pound sign on shift-3) to a US layout (which has a hash
symbol on shift-3, and is often read as "number").

To confirm this, what do you get by pressing shift-2?

A UK layout will give you double quote marks; a US layout will give you an
"at" sign.

Nononono...
I suspect it is actually putting the number sign in the document.
When in word look at the language in use for the spellchecker and see what it says. My guess is it will say English US.
However I do not think I've ever had windows itself change languages without doing it on purpose.
What we need is an expert on this here. Changing what it says won't make it put the right character into a document at all. Don't mess with the dictionary, its just compounding the problem.

Sakina, can you send me an attached document with the symbol in it that you get where pound used to be, and also type the same thing into the message body as well, in case its only happening in the word program.
This is a £ ie pound sign and this is a # ie hash or number sign.

I have no idea why "pound sign" gets announced sometimes while "number" gets announced others, but they're the same thing.

I was thrown the first time I heard someone refer to '#' as the pound sign rather than the number sign.  Now, of course, we have "hashtag" to add to the mix.

I have noticed a delay that sometimes occurs on the save dialogue actually operating, but not anything as you describe.
Seems illogical as you say as you are not actually loading anything unless something's is running that you do not know about. If you now run the later version as a portable does the effect return?

Hi,

I recently noticed strange behavior to my other machine after I got updated to stable version of NVDA 2018.2.1, when I am about to save particular file in notepad as regular text file format.it keeps me prompting me with an error
C:\Users\rbmendoza\Documents\testing.txt

Though fact, I am just wanting to save a regular text file so, as alternative I done some troubleshooting to ensure the behavior I removed it thoroughly the 2018.2.1, reboot after then tried to installed older version of NVDA which is 2018.1 then the saving process works fine. Not sure what seems the problem for this . Hope could someone could help me for this matter. Thanks.

again (stable versions) works great. Then just port Waterfox from one
of them. Be sure to install several browser variants so you can do
that. I'm sure it will work.

Hi,

Try Narrator with Chrome.  I find firefox is officially awful now.

All the best

So I listened to a very nice podcast about one of the new Narrator
features on the Insiders build, the start guide. I fired up Narrator,
just to see what it was like. Opened Firefox, and Narrator pretty much
wouldn't read or navigate a site, Youtube as it happens. Popped NVDA
back on, and it worked just fine.

Not to turn this into a Narrator thread, but does Narrator only work,
or mostly work, with Microsoft apps? I periodically test Narrator
because it's there so why not? Plus Windows is integrating it more,
e.g. you can supposedly install 10 from scratch using Narrator,
Narrator in safe mode, and so on. I figure that makes it worth getting
familiar with if for no other reason than I'll know how to use it when
it's the thing I'll need to use. But it's gonna be hard to become
familiar with it if it doesn't work with chunks of the stuff I use. Is
there a Narrator list or something, like this list basically? I tried
looking around for something like "using Microsoft narrator with
Firefox", but I just get stuff about using Narrator generally or
occasional reviews of using older versions of Narrator.

I'm thankful Microsoft is making accessibility a bigger priority and
giving us things like installation and safe mode, well I've never
really tried either but you know, I'm glad they're there if something
comes up.
But for me, Narrator's nowhere near NVDA. I know some people have
implied that it is, and I'm not trying to make this a fight or anything.
So I'm sort of trying to find out, you know does all of this great
functionality come from sticking solely to Microsoft's stuff? Because
I don't get the hype. I can't imagine using it as my primary screen
reader for any length of time. People say it's getting closer to
things like NVDA. But for me, I just don't see it. Am I missing
something? Because right now I think my dream scenario would be NVDA
from power on, or as close as it could be managed.

Porting bookmarks, cookies and history from Chrome to Firefox and back
again (stable versions) works great. Then just port Waterfox from one
of them. Be sure to install several browser variants so you can do
that. I'm sure it will work.
