Re: nvda and app windows not closing

Its not just that though, I've noticed even in windows 7, even if the app appears to be closed, a look at running applications and processes often will still show them in the list but using very little memory and no processor time. I have a theory that its to enable quicker starting the next time you call them.

I despise modern voices for doing anything but light reading. Espeak is decent, but in my view the best two synths for fast reading remain Eloquence and doubletalk. If I want to get correct spellings I'll use a more modern voice. ...but then you get random pauses for no reason, mis pronouncing random words like bourbon and expanding acronyms that I don't want.

I to do agree that modern voices are unintelligible at fast, even moderate speeds. I as you know made the variant Quincy for UK English espeak and am happy with it in the main if they would stop mucking about with words that sounded right before. However I do also feel that the speech player in Espeak project was very good and I'd like to see somebody take this up again to make it better for the US market. One has to realise at the moment though that the biggest growth area for nvda is the Indian Subcontinent, and maybe other languages than English. Brian bglists@blueyonder.co.uk Sent via blueyonder. Offer it as a free downloadable sapi5 and OneCore voice addons under ease of access in windows10. And on the Microsoft website as sapi5 for windows7 users. Also please maintain the android version so it keeps working and perhaps lower the price to $2 or $3. Nuance CodeFactory licenses are too restrictive. Adding Eloquence to microsoft’s voice portfolio would benefit those with hearing impairments. So if Microsoft owned it, whenever you buy a copy of windows or a new pc, you also pay for the rite to use eloquence on any pc you buy.and if you don’t want it, you just do not go into ease of access and download it. Nuance copyright is stuck back in the 80s and early 90s and has to change. If not, this issue will probably keep cropping up. IMPORTANT MILESTONE REACHED: wxPython 4 makes the cut to master/alpha snapshots and beyond, Project Heliopolis development phase is finished
Dear NVDA Community:
Please circulate the following notice throughout the community (including to translators, other users, add-on authors and beyond), as it’ll affect EVERYONE:
I’m delighted to announce that, as of July 18, 2018, wxPython 4 officially comes to NVDA! This means, going forward, wxPython 4 code will be in use throughout NVDA (alpha, future betas, future stable releases and so on). Note that unless really serious regressions occur, wxPython 4 will be here to stay.
Relevant pull request can be found at: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/7104
Depending on who you are, please do one or more of the following:
For users and testers:
For add-on authors and reviewers:
For third-party Core developers (outside of NV Access):
P.S. Some might be wondering what “Project Heliopolis” is:
According to various legends, a phoenix is a mythical bird that can live for hundreds of years and can be reborn from ashes of its former body when it burns. Other legends state that the young phoenix would fly to Heliopolis (Greek for “sun city”) where it’ll bury the ashes of its former self encased in an egg. This became the inspiration for wxPython Phoenix (version 4), which, according to its developer, is an effort to rewrite this GUI toolkit to make it better.
The Heliopolis project makes a nod to wxPython Phoenix by porting NVDA’s GUI subsystem and others to wxPython 4. This began in 2015 when I first ported NVDA to wxPython Phoenix code base with some difficulties. In 2016, I resurrected this project but met various difficulties while doing more work in summer of 2016.
Then in April 2017, wxPython 4 alpha hit the air, which gave me and others a chance to experiment with more stable version of the Phoenix code base. For the most part, prior work in 2015 and 2016 paid off, as NVDA ran almost flawlessly under wxPython 4. The big major problem was wx.Yield function, which was solved by defining a non-reentrant timer in GUI module in 2018. In March 2018, wxPython 4 made its debut in the NVDA community in the form of a series of what is now former next branch snapshots, and this opened up bugs with add-ons that were addressed in most cases.
With wxPython 4 merged (finally) into master, I can declare that we have achieved two milestones: moving onto wxPython Phoenix (thus accomplishing the original goal of Heliopolis project), and moving closer to the “big switch”: Python 3. For many of you, what you saw with wxPython 4 switch is (and will be) just a taste of what’s to come once the NVDA screen reader finally transitions to Python 3 (preferably 3.7). Also, on a personal note, I can finally sleep in peace (a bit more peacefully) after seeing the fruition of a project I’ve been championing since 2015.
I’d like to take this time to thank everyone who was involved with wxPython 4 transition: NV Access, Robin Dunn (wxPython developer), Leonard (Babbage) and many others.
Enjoy wxPython 4. Cheers, Joseph P.S. By the way, we get the “six” module for free with this milestone.

2018 NvDA Add-ons Festival: turning the reins to other community members due to personal, academics and health reasons
Hi all,
A few days ago I announced that I was planning 2018 NVDA Add-ons Festival. However, because of upcoming academic schedule, personal reasons, and due to possible toll on my health, I’d like to pass on the organization of this event to other members of the NVDA community.
As much as I’d like to take on organizing this event to the end, I do know that this may have consequences for my health and academics. As I’m taking more advanced courses at college and start looking for graduate school and other endeavors, coupled with upcoming competitive speech and debate season, I do know that organizing an event that is scheduled for beginning of the school year is very risky for me in terms of early grades and other activities. Also, as I’ll be traveling to different schools for debates and other forensics activities, I know that keeping up with Add-ons Festival and other events may become a distraction to my ultimate duty as a college student.
Also, I’m desperately looking for a time where I can just relax and think about my future role in NVDA community and the project as a whole. The last few weeks have been some of the busiest weeks I’ve seen as a member of this community since June 2012, including helping out with NVDACon International 2018, chairing NVDACon Korea 2018 (hosting the main meeting at night my time), making sure those who’ll meet Windows 10 Redstone 5 have amazing experiences with NVDA, putting finishing touches to Project Heliopolis (wxPython 4 migration) and what not (more on Heliopolis in a second).
Thus, I believe I’m not in the best condition to organize 2018 NVDA Add-ons Festival at this time, thus I’d like to request that the community take this on. I’d be happy to join this event as a speaker (I have a topic in mind which I’d like to present in a keynote-style presentation).
Thank you for understanding. Cheers, Joseph

Re: Skype 8 for desktop answering incoming call?
Cristóbal
All alt plus F gets me in Skype 8.25 for desktop is: New Group... Ctrl+G
There are the applications settings, audio/video, help and feedback options if pressing spacebar on more options, but even if you click on the audio/video, there’s nothing about answering or handling phone calls. Just the microphone and speakrs stuff. Odd that no one’s really got a definitive answer to this or has dealt with this scenario of having to answer a phone call in Skype. Having to locate an accept button to click on it instead of invoking a simple hotkey that would work in any window you may find yourself in would be a major step backwards. Forget about accessibility, but simpl functionality in general. I hope this isnt’ the case and I’m just overlooking something.

I have just been looking at skype 8 and how it is setup. I will put together a tutorial later on today or tomorrow.
I did find the section for answering calls in skype 8 it is under your profile then calling and then answer incoming calls. You need to use alt key + letter F then go down the menus to get tto those other sections.
