Rubbish. You should be OK with the new version the problem may well be elsewhere not in the fact that it has any issues. it does not for me.

Hi,
This message is for Windows 7 users.

You will not receive NVDA 2018.2
2017.4 is the last version you'll get.
I'd highly suggest upgrading to Windows 10.

Re: For windows 7 users

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

That is quite incorrect, as i've been using the rc3 for some days with no issues at all, indeed i am using both master and next as well on windows 7. What you may be encountering is a problem with the way old versions update compared to new ones. I have encountered this. You can often need to force it to make it work.

I don't think this is correct information. Here's what they say
regarding system requirements.
"NVDA runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows.
The minimum Operating System required to run NVDA is Windows 7 with
Service pack 1. " So yes--Win7 users will need to have SP1, but that
should be onboard anyway.

Re: For windows 7 users this information is not correct

Hi,
A few critical questions:
* Did NV Access announce what the original poster said?
* If yes, where can we find such an announcement?
* Was there a list traffic devoted to implications of what the original poster just announced?
I'm phrasing my answers in this format in hopes that we can be better informed in the future.
Cheers,

I wonder, if the tool autoruns is usable on 10, whether there is an item starting in the system one can uncheck or delete to remove it?

Might also be worth a look in a few other places. I think that sound is enabled early now and also works in safe mode so there could be something else in a system tool that can be tweaked. Does seem an odd choice that has no way to configure it, Microsoft are usually good at allowing these things to be altered.

Hi

I found this that might help the first option looks easier and a link to this page is https://forum.thewindowsclub.com/windows-customization/29982-disable-remove-ease-access-button-logon-screen.html

it did not mention a windows version so am guessing it should work.

I did read a thread that on hp machines this comes up at log on.

I wonder if you have your computer boot straight into windows if it would still come up? I do not think so or would you rather not as you would rather log on into windows?

  • Enhanced Touch Gestures 18.06: add-on settings can be found in new multi-category NVDA Settings under “Enhanced Touch Gestures” category.
  • Golden Cursor 3.0: same as above but the category to look for is “Golden Cursor”.
  • Windows 10 App Essentials: version 18.06 stable is now available to everyone. For those using 18.05.3, you’ll have until June 20, 2018 to update to 18.06, by which time the temporary update channel will be gone along with release of 18.06.1.

Also, for those using Windows 10 App Essentials development snapshots: regular and pilot builds are now united. This means, going forward, anyone wishing to use development snapshots MUST be running NVDA 2018.2 stable or later. Also, you’ll need to be running Windows 10 Version 1709 (build 16299) or later in order to receive future add-on builds.

NV Access is pleased to announce that version 2018.2 of NVDA, the free screen reader for Microsoft Windows, has now been released.

Highlights of this release include Support for tables in Kindle for PC, support for HumanWare BrailleNote Touch and BI14 Braille displays, Improvements to both Onecore and Sapi5 speech synthesizers, improvements in Microsoft Outlook and much more.

This award-winning software has been changing the lives of thousands of blind and vision impaired people who can now independently use computers to produce written content, read news, socialise, shop and bank online, and, most importantly, actively participate in education and employment. Please consider helping NV Access to continue this important work by becoming a monthly donor.
