I am anxious to learn the answer on this one also. I ended up being exempt from Visio stuff, but if someone has figured out how to overcome its obstacles, it would be great to hear how.

How are you following the link?  Are you pressing enter on it or copying and pasting it into the browser?  What is the error message?

If you are copying and pasting, are you removing or not including the period at the end of the link?  It's the end of a sentence.

Hmm, I am not sure what drivers I have or check on that. I had this problem with another machine before. Due to another problem, I had to do a reinstall, and that fixed the problem. I am hoping here that i don’t do a install on this machine. I have noticed in other logins it is still doing it. I thought it was a resource hog that is bogging down the computer, but JAWS don’t seem to have the problem. It works, but very annoying. lol.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post in this group. I have a annoying problem with my NVDA which I have been trying to figure out. I have noticed that when i use Eloquence voice that the TTS sometimes lags or hangs for a second everytime i press the next key. Most noticeable is when i use Microsoft Excel. If I use the arrows to moved left/right or up or down, sometimes i have to way 1 to 3 seconds for the TTS to catch up and let me know what is in that cell. sometimes the TTS just hangs for a good minute.

Now, when I use JAWS I don’t have this problem. So I think it is NVDA related. My system resources says my computer is running at 10% most of the time on average, and I am only using half of my 8gb of RAM. So, it is not a system resource hog.

I have tried to uninstall NVDA and reinstall it, and that did not work, so I am open for any ideas or suggestions. thanks guys!

Hi Michael,

Was it RC1 or 2 then?  As I'm not seeing it with RC3?

The way AV programs work, or one way at least, is they look for "signatures" of known viruses.  Each virus tends to have a group of bytes that distinguishes it from other programs - in the same way, if you wanted, you could probably go through a library and pick say the first sentence out of each book.  You could then bring in a new book without a cover, compare the first sentence against your list of known sentences, and decide whether it matched anything you'd seen before.

Occasionally you might get two books that have the same first sentence, and so one might be misidentified as the other.  It basically works exactly the same way with viruses.  Because it is just a string of characters, they could appear in other programs, and occasionally do, that is how false positives occur.

So, when we built rc2 (or 1?) it just happened that the exact sequence of characters appeared in our setup file as must appear in some virus.  It's something that Symantec have to update in their database, and once I know which build I can let them know - they have a set process for letting them know about false positives.  They'll then double check our file, confirm with what else they know about that virus that it definitely is a false positive and then update their definition list, and that will go out the next time they send out an update (usually in a day or so).

For now, RC3 seems ok so you should be able to download and run that if needed.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi Michael,

No problem at all, we're transparent here.  Thanks for the heads-up!  Can you advise which version is being flagged?  Is it 2018.1.1 (on the main download page), NVDA 2018.2rc3 (the current release candidate) or one of the snapshot or other builds?

I just ran a couple of builds through VirusTotal: https://www.virustotal.com/en/ - they run any file or site you specify through many of the reputable and unknown AV scanners and tell you what comes back positive

RC3 is being flagged by something called  "Antiy-AVL" that I've never heard of, as "Trojan/Win32.AGeneric".  If I can figure out who they are, I'll write to them.

Symantec is happy with the RC as far as I can see.

NVDA 2018.1.1 is coming up clean on everything.

I tried nvda_snapshot_next-15180,4479f3ab.exe which I had lying around from the 7th of June and it came back clean.

As Brian noted, one AV or another will flag programs from time to time.  The easiest way to allay any fears is to check whether other reputable AV programs which also detect whatever it was also detect it.  In the case of Trojan/Win32.AGeneric, it's a bit hard, as it's simply claiming it looks like a generic trojan, without actually have the "signature" of any known virus.

To answer two questions from two members, the speech dictionaries are empty until you add something.

I am assuming you know how to use the dictionary.  To make graphic not be spoken, Instead of typing something to be spoken in the pronounced as field, type a space.

Re: better notepad works great with NVDA!

Hi.  I am afraid there is no solution for this.  The developers of the program specifically targetted the newer windows Operating systems and did not provide any support for the older versions of windows.  It is possible to provide support for xp, but you need to download the windows xp build tools when you are developing the program and create the version specifically for xp users, and they did not do that.  Because Notepad++ is an open source program, it would be possible to grab the source code and tweak it to target xp users, but i do believe some of the code has to be rewritten for that to happen and it will take a great deal of time.  Cheers!

It has blank line removal and all kinds of neat things on its menu

hi.
thanks for your reply.
can you please test notepad3 and tell me that does it support export

i need a program which has these features.
windows notepad replacement.
export as html.
supporting unicode and utf8.
also accessible for nvda users.
txt and html is enough for me.
SciTe even does not read when i use replace all and i dont understand
how many items i replaced.
also, i even cant install it that can use it as a windows notepad replacement.

Re: Inquiry about release date of nvda2018.2.

Quentin Christensen

Quentin.

How accessible is signing a pdf document for us with screen readers? Does it depend on the accessibility of the form? This could also apply to documents in Microsoft Office. Any help with this would be appreciated. If I need to, I will talk to the right people in Tennessee government, and get them to fix their forms, as much as possible.

switched to languages that didn't have an accessible IDE, it was much
harder to know what you were doing without pretty much relearning
things., Yes, autocomplete, realtime syntax checking, integrated debug
and build commands...I'm talking about you!
Nope. I think Notepad2 has everything I need for editing purposes. I
mean, even with a few tweaked settings, you can even edit binary files.

Damien.

works good with NVDA. And during install you can tell it to replace the
standard windows 7 8 or 10 notepad. You do not have to be a programmer
to use it. But you can use it for programming if you wish. It has blank
line removal and all kinds of neat things on its menu bar.
