Thanks for the info!

I was thinking on changing, but i do not care about tables.

By instance, between FineReader 12 and 14, the former is much better

recognizing tables...

If you scan a table for Excel, the results are far better with

FineReader 14...

In character recognition, yes, the changes are almost inexistants...

Re: off topic, who can help me for buying mobile phone with android operating system?

The list allows and has allowed a certain amount of off topic discussion as list policy.  This helps the list retain members, helps build a sense of community and keeps traffic at a high enough level that the list doesn't lose members because of too low activity.

Just skip what you aren't interested in by deleting it or mute the topic..

Because there are occasions when you want to ask people you know, and probably trust and respect, about something not centrally related to a given list's topic.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, provided it's not done repeatedly and in rapid succession by the same person.

You have the "Mute this Topic" link at the bottom of each individual message or message in a digest.  I suggest you learn how to use it.

The terrible state of public education has paid huge dividends in ignorance.  Huge.  We now have a country that can be told blatant lies — easily checkable, blatant lies — and I’m not talking about the covert workings of the CIA. When we have a terrorist attack, on September 11, 2001 with 19 men — 15 of them are Saudis — and five minutes later the whole country thinks they’re from Iraq — how can you have faith in the public? This is an easily checkable fact. The whole country is like the O.J. Simpson jurors.

If you look at the quick keys reference, you will see that the information is organized as a table, with the desktop command and the other ways of issuing the command, such as the laptop layout command, given.  Did you turn the laptop layout on?  I really dislike the laptop layout.  You may disagree but if I had a laptop without a numpad, I would buy a USB numpad and use the desktop layout.

Thanks for the info, Jean. I went through the users’ guide and the quick reference documents and didn’t find anything specifically about activating phonetic spelling. Is there a way to do this from a laptop without using a numpad? Where can I find this info in the NVDA documentation?
Thanks,

I really doubt these apps do anything unless you somehow activate them or give them information or perhaps do something else.  I don't have a smart phone and I don't know much about apps, but I receive a technology newsletter and I have for years.  I haven't once seen this subject, that is, just having the apps on a phone, discussed or even mentioned as a possible security concern.  I am therefore skeptical that they are a concern.  Of course, I'll consider other comments and I'm not assuming I am right but at this point, I am very skeptical that these are problems.

Also, John, you may wish to try the 'text' as opposed to the 'visual'
editor, which is enabled by default.

You can also display the list of comments in pressing nvda+F7, you can choose to display the list of annotations and browse through the different comments.
If you don't know the keystroke, when NVDA says "has a comment", you can have it read in pressing nvda+alt+C.

Phonetic spelling again

Janet Brandly

Thanks for the info, Jean. I went through the users’ guide and the quick reference documents and didn’t find anything specifically about activating phonetic spelling. Is there a way to do this from a laptop without using a numpad? Where can I find this info in the NVDA documentation?
Thanks,
Janet

I don't have an android phone myself but I think one of my sisters has one. I doubt that she can remove any of the programs because they're part of the phone.

using and installing apps is easy without play store.
simply i download installer file of my desired programs and install
them without forcing to have always the last versions of programs and
i can control and use my desired versions of softwares without
updating them specially automatic update!
i heard rooting phones is dangerous, but i really wish to remove this
apps and use anything that i wish.
and while, i dont trust youtube, play store and facebook etc, i love
opensource operating system, i love espeak iven3 and wish to have it!

And, sorry, but given that the Play Store is Google's marketplace,
and that

Google owns Youtube, if you don't trust either of those, why do you
want to

get an Android phone at all?

For the most part, Android is Android and the hardware is secondary.

You will not be able to remove most preinstalled programs, as many
are considered to be system programs. You can, of course, remove
them from your main screen(s) that you interact with, but not from
the device itself. Even going to great lengths, such as rooting
the device, to remove them gains you nothing, as system space is
not switched over to user space anyway.
