Hi, Gene NZ,

Thanks for the correction. It's been a while since I used the speech dictionary.

actually,  none of the three format announcing  property sheets
seems to
have a way of selectable just stopping the announcement of the object
type
if its a graphics. Sure you can turn off object type announcements but
this
one supposes then leaves you a little in the dark about everything

Re: notepad plus plus and NVDA

Yes I think it is.

I forget exactly how but you should be able to resave in certain formats with standard notepad..

Back when I was doing opperating systems class I had but never kept, command line converters that would translate text files from dos, to unix to windows iso formats.

They were called dos to unix and unix to dos respectedly.

There is probably something else you can do now to resave the files in the right format.

Is notepad plus plus accessible with NVDA? I have some text files I want to do some advanced editing on. In some, I want to remove all blank lines. Others are from an old dos program and have extra ascii ansi junk characters that I want to get rid of. Once fixed up, I want to re-save the text files, open in wordPad and save as docx files to re-translate into braille to put on the orbit reader 20. I put two files on there, and have to hit the scroll forward button a lot to skip extra blank lines which interrupts my ability to read the file smoothly.

Re: NVDA Command to Label Graphics

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi

the only thing or add on i can think of that might come close is the golden cursor but is more for hot spots.

for a example i had a scanner program which had 6 or so unlabled buttons etc on it. You could not tab to them either but if the mouse was say moved to them you could label them. So then if you wanted to get to those buttons in the program you would then use the elements list it would come up with the ones you labled pick the one you want and it would go to it. I think it was screen pacific so what your monitor was set to was what it had to say at to find those buttons each time.

You can also drive the mouse with your arrow keys etc but i do not think this is really what you want.

Sus it out you never know.

I have been asking for an easy object customizer addon for years that would both let us easily reclass objects to other types, rename them, including labeling graphic objects manually or with tooltips, and sharing those customizations with others application specific or globally saved profiles. So far no addon has been made that will easily let us do this. Currently to do any of this you have to be into python programming, which I am not good at.

Be careful as if you have a graphic description with the  word graphic you might be in trouble reading said graphic description. I wonder if you could make the dictionary website specific or what not as well.

What is the currently suggested nvda friendly program for this task? Ie are

there some that work with voices that one can add dictionary corrections to,

as many Microsoft synths like speech platform seem to have massive issues

with the letter no and even sappi 5 does odd stuff.

I've been using  dspeech myself, for ages, but it is restricted to sappi 5

32 bit voices and one has to alter the words in the file itself to correct

the  pronunciation. I guess some kind of add on to do a say all to file

might be nice but to me this is a stand alone program function.

What do you use?

NVDA lags in speech feedback.

Daniel Hawkins

Hello everyone,

This is my first post in this group. I have a annoying problem with my NVDA which I have been trying to figure out. I have noticed that when i use Eloquence voice that the TTS sometimes lags or hangs for a second everytime i press the next key. Most noticeable is when i use Microsoft Excel. If I use the arrows to moved left/right or up or down, sometimes i have to way 1 to 3 seconds for the TTS to catch up and let me know what is in that cell. sometimes the TTS just hangs for a good minute.

Now, when I use JAWS I don’t have this problem. So I think it is NVDA related. My system resources says my computer is running at 10% most of the time on average, and I am only using half of my 8gb of RAM. So, it is not a system resource hog.

I have tried to uninstall NVDA and reinstall it, and that did not work, so I am open for any ideas or suggestions. thanks guys!
Daniel Hawkins

I Actually did not take part in the crowd funding as I didn't believe
this add on would ever happen, and I knew one of the devs so perosnally did
not crowd fund it, I just will not go thee, not here.

Anyway yeah any way to get hold of the devs of the remote add on and ask
them to please fix? At least for some of us who use it. I only used it once
and that was this year.

Here's hoping for a fix eh?

The below notice is considered critical:

It’s happening again: with the introduction of wxPython 4 in next snapshots,
users of NVDA Remote add-on are having startup issues related to missing

I propose the following solutions:

* I highly recommend releasing Remote add-on 2.2 to fix this issue.
* Perhaps adding a statement on nvdaremote.com<http://nvdaremote.com>
website explaining
that Remote add-on should be disabled if using recent NVDA next
snapshots.
* The community should release an updated version of this add-on
with permission from add-on authors and maintainers.

How accessible is signing a pdf document for us with screen readers? Does it depend on the accessibility of the form? This could also apply to documents in Microsoft Office. Any help with this would be appreciated. If I need to, I will talk to the right people in Tennessee government, and get them to fix their forms, as much as possible.

Hi Group,

Be advised that this listserve.icors.org is an ancient and very quirky list serve. In particular, many messages formatted in Microsoft Word or similar office type programs will show an unimaginably painful amount of those nasty extraneous characters embedded within each e-mail message.  I know this because the Blind Hams list used to reside on that server and eventually by rather loud and contentious popular demand, the moderators switched to a more modern server and we now have no such issues.

You have been warned.

Yes I know how can it know about newer windows. it has not got a time machine.
I'm actually very surprised some hackers have not actually got into XP and added some new routines that emulate the new operating systems ones to make it still work. I guess there is not really a call for it most of the time.
I just think that by now even in hard to get at countries, there should be windows 7 machines being pensioned off that can be reformatted and used perfectly acceptably.

Yes but at least on Intel processor units, ccleaner still works on xp as do many programs. However of course as people move to newer development environments many of the calls to windows core routines do not think about xp or vista any more as the interface has been so extended in 7.

I like 7, my main gripe with 10 is its eternal reinvention every six months. I think this matters to us more than the sighted as normally something breaks or works differently for us, but the sighted tend to just cope with it.

Hi,
I'm pretty sure the website said it only supported 7, 8, and 10. It may have even said Vista, but I'm afraid there's a lot of software written today that doesn't support XP. Believe it or not, XP is about 16 years old. I believe even NVDA itself has stopped support for XP now.

I believe you justhit the space bar on the place where you'd normally replace a word. I could be wrong so maybe Gene or someone else can jump in here and correct me.

Hi,
I found something better than notepad2. It is called notepad3! You
can get it here. Its free.

works good with NVDA. And during install you can tell it to replace
the standard windows 7 8 or 10 notepad. You do not have to be a
programmer to use it. But you can use it for programming if you wish.
It has blank line removal and all kinds of neat things on its menu bar.
