Is anyone using 1Password 7 with a 1Password account? I've been using the standalone app but just opened a 1Password account and need to migrate my vault from Dropbox to that account. I'm not st all at ease with NVDA yet. Please email me off list. Thanks much.

Often if your card has expired, yet your new card is on their account at Paypal you have to go in and make the new one default as some banks systems are so bloomin thick they never ask to try the other card. What I did was delete the old one making the current one default, by default, if you get my drift.
Other things can upset it. Sometimes you can tie it to an account without a card but have a transaction limit of some sort set. This can cause problems as well. Very handy for stopping fraud of course, but if your account is not using an overdraft and the credit limit is small, it tends to just not know what to do.
I guess it is dangerous to use a debit cared, as credit cards afford some protection, but I've not been hacked yet, and the banks do tend to put the money back in a goodwill gesture so far if people I talk to are anything to go by.
But, this is all academic. It has to be something wrong with the set up that gives such errors, and only trying to find which bit is the solution, from what I've read here, its usually the bank. Some banks will not agree till you reply to an email they send you and click a link in the account. That is a bit paranoid unless you are talking about thousands of pounds or dollars, in my view and I have found my bank normally calls me if their algorithm spots something out of the ordinary.

I have had several problems trying to donate and getting an error message saying that the card was rejected but the problem is that I was not using a card but rather using my bank. I talked to PayPal and they could not even see a transaction being initiated so I could not get past the initial screen.

. . . when installing/updating NVDA?

I ask because a friend of mine who's a long term NVDA user, and has donated many times along the way, mentioned to me this evening that when she did the latest update she could not get through making a donation. We're in the USA, and she describes the situation as being that no matter how many times she tried to get the donation currency set to USD and enter her credit card information things kept reverting back to Australian dollars and starting the whole "fill in the form" process again.

She's been a screen reader user since there were screen readers, and knows NVDA inside and out. I thought I'd mention this here as it would be a shame if this were not an isolated incident and others who wish to donate were being stymied in doing so.

Hi

This has been a problem with Chrome for a while now.  I have stopped using Chrome because of this and I have used the feedback function to report the problem but nothing has been done.

Perhaps if they get more reports about this broken functionality they may do something about it.

Cheers

That is not how it works any more as far as I know. You get a translation when you get the confirm bit and you can go back and amend it if you do not like it. It really is, I think due to the charges levied by the bank or payment service being variable so they cannot really tell you at nv access end how much they will get in anything but aud any more. The point is at least for me, when you get to the bank or paypal end it will tell you how much you have spent, which is always more than the amount they get if you did a straight convert, but just like in places where you change money the charges for the service do vary.
At least this is the reading of the current situation.
It would be very difficult to do this any other way, since the charges can and do vary. Recently paypal increased their charges, but so did many English banks, so what can you do about that?
Not a lot.

We're located in the USA and she's not using PayPal.

The issue is that, at least on that attempt, the donate mechanism would not do what it conventionally does, allow you to pick your currency of donation so that you actually know what you're donating. It all gets converted to Australian dollars in the end, but I, as an end user, would never want to express my donation in a currency whose value I am not certain of. If I lived in the EU I'd want to know what I'm donating in Euros, in the UK in Pounds Sterling, etc., etc., etc.

It was just weird that in the attempt I mentioned it allowed you to do the usual selections, but the donation would not go through and everything reverted to Australian dollars immediately after the failed attempt.

I just wanted to put this on record since it might be some sort of persistent problem. It also might not, but you can't even check on what you don't know about.

running win 10 1809 and latest NVDA.  If I use file explorer and arrow down to a file or folder then use the right arrow key when you get to file size NVDA does not read the file size.  Is there a way to get NVDA to read this bit of information?

You might want to send this file in to Virustotal to find out what
other antivirus engines think about it.

Hi!
In any case, the file it flagged is not part of NVDA's core but of the
Remote add-on which, in some sense, does execute instructions from
outside. What I find strange is that there is such an exe file inside
the add-on.

Re: 32Bit or 64Bit Office with NVDA

It doesn't matter.

I have 32 bit, if you have more than 4gb ram and you probably do 64 is fine 64 is only for large files but you can install it.

Your licence key will probably work on both.

And for those dabbling "on the dark side" no protection program of any sort is guaranteed to be effective.

I even used Microsoft Security Essentials for years when people constantly declared, "It's crap!!," and never had a single detection nor infection.  The fact of the matter is that most infections do not "sneak on" to a system but are invited in by direct user action.  There are three posts/topics written by a security expert who writes under the name Quietman7 on Bleeping Computer that are must reads, in my opinion, if you want to understand your role (for any you) in securing your computer:

If you using a Windows 64 bit you should install the 64 bit of Office though, and the same for 32 bit.
