Hi Zahra,

I'm using 64-bit Firefox currently (as I always have) and haven't had any problems with it (aside from the ones everyone had back when Firefox quantum first came out). I'm using Windows 10 insider builds though so there might be something different.

Either way, if you can get your contact to go to "about:crashes" and copy the report ID into a message to me (ideally with a bit of context about what the user was doing when it crashed and which version of NVDA etc), I can pass it on to Mozilla.

Regards

Quentin.

Hi Glenn,

Here, on Windows 10 with NVDA and a Linux machine via SSH, I can scroll and read the outgoing messages on my braille display. In some cases, you could also use the virtual buffer add-on. For instance, you can toggle the window and read the screen line by line with the arrow keys.

Ahra,

It appears that most of the people having problems with NVDA and newer Firefox versions are running a 32bit version of Firefox. So, you do fit in that category. However, I don't believe you mentioned the version of Windows you are running and that can make a significant difference. Please also let us know if Windows is 32 bit or 64 bit.

Thanks,

Jonathan Cohn

NVDA and Braille Display for Remote To Linux help wanted

Ervin, Glenn

Hello,

This is from a Braille list I subscribe to, and I thought that there might be some answers coming from this list that I can pass along.

Glenn

Hello,   anyone use NVDA under Windows together with a Braille

display for connecting to a remote Linux machine with the software Putty? I

would like to know how you are able to scroll away from the cursor using the

Braille scrolling keys within a Putty window when using NVDA. I seem to be

able to do this with Dolphin Screenreader, but not with NVDA.

Thanks,

An excellent practice.

Sudden crashes, when most other users are not reporting same, are typically indicative of a problem on one's own machine, not a problem with a given piece of software in general.

When it comes to web browsers in particular, though they're hardly alone, an uninstall/restart/reinstall sequence will often fix the problem.

Also, although this should not be the problem yet, anyway, perpetual backward compatibility cannot and will not be maintained.  Developers of all software move along with the flow of the computing world as a whole.  Those who hold on to ancient versions of hardware or software cannot reasonably expect that newer versions of any given piece of software is going to work after years pass since what they're trying to use it with was current.

Patrick Zajda made 2012 an add-on for this purpose, so you can just press NVDA+Shift+V to announce the App Name and the version info. Another community member converted it in 2016 I believe to the new add-on package later. to use it in newer NVDA versions. The name of the add-on is sayProductAndVersion.

Re: Firefox Crash Report Details

Mozilla will have a look at it - In the meantime if you are using a 32-bit version of Firefox on 64-bit Windows, the best option is to swap to 64-bit Firefox, but either way Mozilla will look into the reports of Firefox crashing, just like we'll look into reports when NVDA crashes.

Consistent with my issue with Firefox crashing while NVDA 2018.3 is

details involving NVDA paths and items that I am not technologically
sophisticated enough to make head nor tail of. Hopefully, this
information may help with diagnosis for those who know better.

Re: NVDA 2018.3 released

Damien Garwood <damien@...>

Hi,
When did we find out about the fact that NVDA Remote will be receiving an update? The last I knew was there was no word from the original developers and it was being declared as incompatible.
Cheers,
Damien.

You're welcome!
It's a frustrating situation and we appreciate that.  Hopefully the new version of NVDARemote will be out very shortly and then it won't be an issue.  We're definitely keeping an eye on it.
Regards
Quentin.

what wonderful quick response, you guys are the greatest. I’ll go

Hi Vlad,

There is, but you need to build the master version of NVDA Remote
yourself from their code at: https://github.com/nvdaremote/nvdaremote

I haven't built it myself, so you'll need to chase up the NVDA
Remote team if you need support for that.  My understanding is
that there should be a ready to go package out in the next few
days with the fix.

For now, we recommend staying with NVDA 2018.2.1 if you need to
use NVDA Remote.

Regards

Quentin.

For the record the version 60 shows this on the home screen, there is no browse of focus mode triggered its as if its a normal windows screen and doing anything comes up withunknown.

My guess is that its the same issue as with the dialogue boxes in dropbox, ie something in the registry is not correct. Seems not to matter which version of nvda I use though, and a sighted person can use it fine.
