Well I just updated & am not experiencing any difficulties here, ie,
ff 62, Win10 1803, fwiw.

Hi.

Its not officially on their website or in fact twitter, but free-codecs has published a page on winamp 5.8 beta, indicating that v6 will be out later this year.

I don't know how these guys get the information before others do and while I havn't downloaded this version since its not official as such its worth mentioning anyway.

Hi Manish,

In Windows Text-to-speech settings (start typing text to speech settings in the start menu) there is a slider for "speed".  Move that further to the right to increase the speech rate.  Note that this setting as well as NVDA's speech rate together both affect how fast the voice talks, so the fastest speed would be both at max.

I tried using the windows one core voice with NVDA today. I tried increasing the rate of speech but even at 100% the rate was slower than I would like.

The same voice, Microsoft David, can be set to a much faster rate when using narrator. With narrator, I could get David to speak almost as fast as espeakNG.

Has anyone else noticed this and figured out a way around this?

Urgent! Rolling back an update or obtaining the older installation file?

ann

-Hi folks,

This is the first time I have been utterly disappointed with an NVDA update. Is there a way to roll back an NVDA update to the earlier version? I cannot use Firefox at all with the newest NVDA, and this is totally unacceptable.  It won't even work with Internet Explorer. I thought I Had an old version of the screen reader installed saved, but apparently not or I have lost it with my recent computer troubles.

In fact, if someone could send me the install file for 2018.2, I'd appreciate it, since it appears I can no longer browse the internet at all. With neither of my browsers working with this new version, I can't even download chrome.

Thanks,

~Ann

To change to receiving mail as a digest, there are two options.  I don't know what the differences are.  Here is the information from the Groups.io documentation.
To switch to receiving plain digests, send a message to:
nvda+digest@nvda.groups.io
To receive full featured digests, send a message to:
nvda+fulldigest@nvda.groups.io
If you want to go back to receiving mail as individual messages use the following command:

I'm using 64-bit Firefox currently (as I always have) and haven't had any problems with it (aside from the ones everyone had back when Firefox quantum first came out).  I'm using Windows 10 insider builds though so there might be something different.

Either way, if you can get your contact to go to "about:crashes" and copy the report ID into a message to me (ideally with a bit of context about what the user was doing when it crashed and which version of NVDA etc), I can pass it on to Mozilla.

Thanks, Glenn. I should have explored the site more carefully. Your tip was
helpful.

Hi,
The only thing I don't like about the site is the links all say jpg.
But if you open one, say, calculators, there are two of them, and
descriptions of them follow the names.

Interesting site, but I wish they'd give a better description of the files
they're presenting for us to download.

NVDA and Braille Display for Remote To Linux help wanted

Ervin, Glenn

Hello,

This is from a Braille list I subscribe to, and I thought that there might be some answers coming from this list that I can pass along.

Glenn

Hello,   anyone use NVDA under Windows together with a Braille

display for connecting to a remote Linux machine with the software Putty? I

would like to know how you are able to scroll away from the cursor using the

Braille scrolling keys within a Putty window when using NVDA. I seem to be

able to do this with Dolphin Screenreader, but not with NVDA.

Thanks,

Re: serious problem with nvda 2018.3 with firefox

I always restart the computer after an update.
An excellent practice.

Sudden crashes, when most other users are not reporting same, are typically indicative of a problem on one's own machine, not a problem with a given piece of software in general.

When it comes to web browsers in particular, though they're hardly alone, an uninstall/restart/reinstall sequence will often fix the problem.

Also, although this should not be the problem yet, anyway, perpetual backward compatibility cannot and will not be maintained.  Developers of all software move along with the flow of the computing world as a whole.  Those who hold on to ancient versions of hardware or software cannot reasonably expect that newer versions of any given piece of software is going to work after years pass since what they're trying to use it with was current.

Just installed latest NVDA 18.3 and all is good. I did install a portable copy first, but when I tested it with Firefox, I find it works just fine here so I went ahead and installed it.

when I am in the tv shows view, Itunes shows me all my tv shows just fine. I do not have any music on here, mostly use iTunes for my tv shows and movie streaming, so I cannot comment on music issues. But its working fine arrowing through tv shows by episode and seasons.

try putting it in list view, under the view menu with alt-v.
