Re: Firefox problems using NVDA

You can run the registry fix tool just in case it solves the problem but I am very skeptical that it will. It is in the tools submenu.

There is no such NVDA setting. To clarify, you discussed the problem on another list and you didn't report that unknown is spoken when you try to read a document. Your description of what you see indicates that no document window is shown. You say that using a very old version of Firefox, version 52.x, you can see the document.

I don't know what is causing the problem, but I don't think it is an NVDA problem. Do you have a sighted person who can tell you if he/she sees the document window and if it looks different than it should?

You can run the registry fix tool just in case it solves the problem but I don't think it will. It is in the tools submenu.

Also, you reported other problems with your system such as two or three error messages on boot up. You need to make the list aware of those messages and what happens when you try to reinstall a JAWS demo. One or more of the problems may be causing the problem you are having with Firefox. Firefox has undergone significant internal changes since 52.x and one or more of the errors may affect it.

Mainly using NVDA latest with latest Win 10. I've been forced to update
my Firefox to access my bank and credit card companies. Now my updated
firefox does not show pages (cannot read by line or hot keys).
Wondering if there's an NVDA setting that must be changed to make
firefox work again?

Appreciate any thought on the subject. Thank you.

Accessible Video Editor

Hello,

Just want to refresh a thread of 2019 which I found in the group’s archive.

Are there any suggestions for accessible video editors?

Has anybody tried for example „vegas“ which is now developed by Magix Software? „Sound Forge“ is very accessible, maybe „Vegas“ would it be too?

Or the more professional programs like „Davinci“ or „Premiere“?

„Sound Forge“ is also able to edit video but I’m not quite sure if I would ‚destroy‘ the video itself when I’m gonna cut things off. If you want to edit the sound of the video it’s great.

Greets and thanks

Christian

Sorry about the file attachment. I had forgotten about that.
The suggestions did not have any effect. It is still reading those marks.

Hi Vaibhav

If Word is set to show all paragraph markers, toggle this setting with Control + Shift + 8. Ensure you use eight on the number row.

This is probably a settings change in Word. There is a short cut command to toggle the command on and off but I haven't found it so far. I have Word starter on my machine, not a full version of Word and it is an older version of the limited word. I can probably give you instructions that will match your version of Word based on this program but I'll see what others have to say. In my version, the item controlling this behavior is in the paragraph grouping of the home ribbon. Its a button for showing all marks or some wording like that.

Make the Most of Braille with NVDA with the Braillists Foundation, Tuesdays 26 January and 9 February at 7:30 PM

Matthew Horspool

Hello everyone,

Would you like to make the most of your refreshable braille display with NVDA on Windows? Are you looking to learn more about how braille can be used to make effective presentations? If so, the Braillists Foundation can help!

This coming Tuesday (26 January), join us on Zoom at 7:30 PM in the UK for a session entitled "Using Braille on Windows". You will find out how to pair a windows PC with a braille display, which screen readers support braille output and some tips and tricks for using braille output. As part of this, we will also discuss the Braille Extender add-on for NVDA.

Then, on Tuesday 9 February, we have a session entitled "Using Braille as a Presentation Tool", which will cover using a braille display with Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides. We'll guide you through how braille output works with these applications and the ways in which braille output can enable you to deliver more effective presentations.

The sessions are completely free of charge, will last an hour (ending at 8:30 PM in the UK), and there will be plenty of time for questions. If you'd like to join us, please register at: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwoceivqz8rGtbEERfYGlXFSR2eIqx-oc9o

If this time isn't convenient for you, fear not: the session will be recorded and made available at: https://www.braillists.org/media

It will also be published via our Braillecast podcast – simply search for "Braillecast" in your podcast client of choice, or ask your smart speaker to "play Braillecast". We are also available on the Victor Reader range of DAISY players and the internet radios from British Wireless for the Blind.

Registering for these sessions also entitles you to attend other sessions in our Tuesday evening series, which are all led by experts in their fields. For more information, please visit: https://www.braillists.org/events

If you have any questions about these sessions or are struggling to register, please email help@...

If you would prefer to attend by telephone, the Meeting ID is: 885 6175 4102

We very much look forward to welcoming you to a Braillists event soon – and if you know someone else who's not on this list, but who might nonetheless appreciate hearing about these sessions, please spread the word!

Best wishes,

Matthew Horspool

The statement was, "the Dictation Bridge Add-On."

Like all add-ons, the ones you've installed are handled by the NVDA Add-Ons Manager.  This does not appear to be an "officially vetted" add-on.  See:

Dictation Bridge

If you've never sought this out, you don't have it.  I reported that I've got the same non-speaking of formulas behavior with 2020.beta4 and I know that I don't have the Dictation Bridge Add-On, though I have not as yet tried restarting with add-ons disabled to see if it's likely triggered by some add-on rather than NVDA itself.

You can read the chats with ctrl+f1, ctrl+f2, etc. I'm not sure how
to copy info from a chat, though.

Re: solution for reading chats in Zoom?

Sim Kah Yong

My experience is that NVDA will read out the chat when I am in the main room, but will fail to do that when I am in breakout room.

My solution is to call out the chat window with Alt + H. This will deal with the problem of NVDA not reading out the chat.

You can use the add-on Speech History to read each chat that has been read out or copy each chat to the clipboard.

The hotkeys are :

Shift + F11

Shift + F12

F12 to copy

Hope this help.
