Re: Reason10 and NVDA

Hi all music makers!

I have been asked to assist a blind person to use Reason10 with NVDA. He is studying a music-making course and the college uses Reason10 to create music and use a variety of synthesisers. My friend has to use this program or he cannot complete the course.
Has anyone else succeeded in doing this?

We have Reason10 installed on a laptop computer running NVDA and Windows 10. When we open Reason10 a logon screen comes up and NVDA can only detect a blank edit field followed by a protected edit field. No prompts are evident to NVDA and no other text or icons are detectable on this screen. We type the user name into the open edit field and the password into the covered edit field and press enter in hope of success. Nothing happens. We tried the reverse, even though that does not seem logical, and still nothing happens.

Is that it? Does someone else have a way to access this program?

All comments and observations welcome.

All the best,

Cearbhall

Hi Clare,

I'm pleased to advise that we released NVDA 2018.3rc3 today to address the issues with iTunes.  You can find the release notes and link to download here: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2018-3rc3-released/

Kind regards

In answer to someone's query regarding the fix mentioned making its way t 2018.3: highly unlikely. If history is any indication, working through UIA controls will require extensive testing.

Have any of the devs looked at the itunes 12.9 window and see exactly what it is, the universal app and the desktop versions appear to be the same, menus and the like work, the main window is not visible to nvda.

And since it works with just about everything, I am now wandering if its a simple thing.

I can't fix it, but maybe there could be an addon for itunes universal and that would work with both versions.

This knee jerk about apple being totally crap well it is a knee jerk reaction, but to be honest if its just an communication/ interaction issue maybe this will help with access to other windows.

I think the thinking of Microsoft here, though a little muddled is that this protects people from accidentally setting it to unintelligible speeds, one can see the Microsoft slider as a max rate limiter for anything using the synth. However if you set nvda fast then use the Microsoft slider you can still give yourself a headache on the machine I tried it on grin.

Hi Manish,

In Windows Text-to-speech settings (start typing text to speech settings in
the start menu) there is a slider for "speed". Move that further to the
right to increase the speech rate. Note that this setting as well as
NVDA's speech rate together both affect how fast the voice talks, so the
fastest speed would be both at max.

Exactly the same here as well, if I hit esc though then manually restart it comes in OK. I suspect that nvda is once again not letting go of the log file in time for the new version to start a new log file.

Re: google domains configuration web site seems inaccessible

Alt up arrow closes a combo box and is the opposite of what is desired.  It's alt down arrow to open it and the command should be issued when in forms mode or when browse mode is off, depending on what your screen-reader calls having browse mode off.

In addition, and I'm speaking specifically about NVDA now, the equivalent may be true of JAWS and some other screen-readers, for some combo boxes that refresh in certain ways when a change is made, it may be necessary to not just turn off browse mode with enter when on the combo box, but to use NVDA key space to turn it off instead of enter.  If this is done, you can then up or down arrow in the combo box and browse mode will stay off.  When you have finished moving in the combo box, turn browse mode on again with the same command, NVDA space bar.

I find a good rule of thumb for combo boxes that jump around whenever
you change them is to press the alt-up arrow or down arrow keys.
My TV DVR program does something similar whenever I tell it what time
to begin a scheduled recording, and I press alt-down arrow to open
the combo box and that seems to work.

Hi Paul,

Press WINDOWS+. or WINDOWS+; to open the emoji panel, then either right
arrow through the items in the current section, press tab to move to the
sections and arrows to choose a new section, or start typing to search for
emoji, eg "cake"
🍰, "Smiling" or "firetruck" 🚒 (as with many other
search fields, you don't necessarily have to type the full thing - I typed
"fire" to narrow the results down to a handful to get the fire truck).

Press ENTER to insert your chosen emoji, and escape to close the panel.

*Subject: *[nvda] problems with nvda2018.3rc1

best forum members,

I have downloaded the nvda 2018.3 rc1 and put it into use.

but I am not entirely positive, there is still something here and there.

Like, I have already experienced a number of times, that I used the

emoticon add-on, often it goes well but suddenly without any apparent

reason it gets stuck.

With alt tab I can then go back to the text where I wanted to place an

emoji.

but it is not going well. Only after I have restarted nvda again can I

place an emoticon again.

are there more people who have the same problem?

with nvda 2018.2 I did not have these problems.

do I have to update the emoticon add-on?

is it available?

with a curious greeting

paul otter

Re: windows one core voice max rate

Hi Manish,

In Windows Text-to-speech settings (start typing text to speech settings in the start menu) there is a slider for "speed".  Move that further to the right to increase the speech rate.  Note that this setting as well as NVDA's speech rate together both affect how fast the voice talks, so the fastest speed would be both at max.

Regards

Quentin.

Hi,

I tried using the windows one core voice with NVDA today. I tried increasing the rate of speech but even at 100% the rate was slower than I would like.

The same voice, Microsoft David, can be set to a much faster rate when using narrator. With narrator, I could get David to speak almost as fast as espeakNG.

Has anyone else noticed this and figured out a way around this?

Regards,

Manish

Ah, just saw this, in that case disregard my reply to your other message.  (Also, if you post a message like that, and then resolve it, please reply to the original message so someone first seeing that also sees immediately that it is resolved).

Re: nvda 2018 rc3 itunes issue

Joseph,

Could you please send me a copy of your log?  Info at https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/LogFilesAndCrashDumps if you need.  Ideally at debug level (and recreating the problem so any errors are recorded in the log).

Send to info@...

Regards

Quentin.
