Re: Addint a Desktop Shortcut for Programs or Apps under Windows 10
There are extra steps required in Win10 for built in apps unlike anything in Win7, but otherwise it's the same.
CTRL+SHIFT+N for new folder is as old as Windows itself. There are scads of keyboard shortcuts that any individual won't know about. I must admit, though, that this one is so frequently useful for a keyboard driven user that I'm shocked you hadn't been acquainted with it ages ago. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1803, Build 17134 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. My information is three years out of date. When I used this type of software, it was necessary for your screen reader to track the cursor. You will probably need for the cursor to blink as fast as possible. You should experiment with a cursor that looks like a block, or a horizontal or vertical line. It might be worth contacting your screen-reader's provider to find out the best way to track the cursor. I used JAWS. I did not have to use the review mode to access the line the cursor was on. I used SecureCRT to access the Linux environment for many years. I apologize, but I have forgotten my own cursor settings. Regards Louis Maher Phone: 713-444-7838 E-mail ljmaher03@outlook.com

Yes but its the start of the process that is the problem. I think it could default to creating a folder on whatever drive called nvda. and there is nothing to stop you renaming the folder later if you like.

However to the uninitiated, the installer makes a folder in the program files areas but create the portable from it and its got to be done manually. the least they could do after you select the drive is warn you that it will go into the root if you continue in my view. If the usb stick has no other files it will put all the files needed splattered on the stick as you found out. I have always made a directory called nvda usually on the usb stick. But lets say at the moment i have 3 copies of nvda. the stable version makes it own directory. The other 2 i made a directory called master snap shots and another directory called next snap shots of which i test them when those files for those snapshots have been put into them. this way it is not confusing for me to tell which is which in the folders. It would be a pane if it done nvda for each directory on the c: drive it would either over write it or one would be called nvda 2 or some thing. It is much tidier making a directory called nvda on a usb stick and then you can have other directories for other files and keep them tidy. the new process in the up coming release for updating the portable is much nicer 2 basically when you go to update it from off the usb stick you are using it will download it to your usb stick then update over the top of it which it did not do before. it is in the next release coming out unless you have 2018.2 rc2 you can try it now. No it never did this, it was a bit of an argument about whether it should or not but it seems the result was inconclusive. personally I'd have preferred that it defaulted to nvda, and gave the option to change it much like zip does for extracting files, but I never did see this done.

From: joseph.lee22590@... <joseph.lee22590@...>
Hi everyone,
In a few hours I’ll release Windows 10 App Essentials 18.06 and 18.05.3. Due to vast differences in some code sections, both will be released at the same time, targeting different NVDA versions:
Please follow the below procedure from start to finish:
The above procedure does not apply if you are using development snapshots of this add-on (both regular and pilot variants). However, due to code differences between regular and pilot snapshots, regular development snapshots will be paused for a while. Once NVDA 2018.2 hits the air, development snapshot variants will merge back into a single variant – regular builds until a new NVDA snapshot calls for separating the variants again.
Thank you. Cheers, Joseph
