Hi Adriani

I have just added a link to the google translate page for other languages on the main web page.

You can jump down by letter H to its heading then go down to the link then press the enter key where it will take you to another page.

For some reason i could not put in a plug in to do it and it wanted it on every page so have gone down this other route. There is a heading that says some thing like translate this website to another language and a link to the translate page. The default language is english and the website main page is already in the edit section to translate. it is then a matter of changing it to another language then having it translate to it. Just after the language combo box you want it to go to is where you can read it in another language. it also seems if you click on one of the links the next page is also translated but only on that page i have it pointing to off my website.

You will see what i mean when it is translated.

it may help? for people where english is not there first language like mine.

Not sure if the steps on what to do is enough or should i add a little more or hopefully it is clear enough on what to do.

Hi Adriani

There is a under construction page that went up tonight for nvda screen reader related resources off the main website at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net
When more resources get added there may be links off the nvda related web pages on my website that point to that page.

I have a rough idea of categories for the resources.
These can be changed  or added to.

the old way to get into safe mode in windows 10 can be found here at https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-boot-to-safe-mode-with-command-prompt-2624541

You will need a pair of eyes to do this plus you might not even have sound.

So am guessing you will need to burrow some eyes and give them directions to fix the problem.

Re: changing speech syn

Gene

Since so many people use enter on all buttons because they don't know and understand the concept of the default button, the coding of the dialog should be changed.  The change button should become the default button when you are on it so that those who use enter will have it work when they are on that button.  Many dialogs do this and who knows how many people are going to have such problems.

Subject: [nvda] Add-on Updater: 18.08.5 as last stable version for now, few important announcements

Hi all,

First, thank you all for your valuable feedback regarding Add-on Updater. At
the moment I'm making changes to the corresponding pull request (NVDA issue
3208) based on your feedback and the add-on code.

Also, version 18.08.5 will hit the air in about half an hour from now. This
one fixes a bug where Add-on Updater settings panel didn't show up properly
if there are add-ons with badly formatted manifest data. I also took this
time to exclude Nuance Vocalizer family of add-ons from participating in
add-on update checks.

Few more important announcements:

* Removing "stable" tag: I'm removing stable tag from this add-on once
18.08.5 is released. This is to follow precedence set by Screen Curtain
where proof of concept/prototype add-ons will remain under development.
* Compatibility with really old add-ons: prior to widespread use of
Add-on Template, add-on authors would package add-ons by hand. This means
add-on manifest data would be formatted in such a way that caused Python to
treat them as things other than text. Although Add-on Updater will notice
these and take appropriate action, compatibility with these old add-ons is
not guaranteed. The solution is for add-on authors to put quotes around
manifest data, specifically for summary and description fields. I'll edit
relevant sections in NVDA's developer guide to reflect this discovery.
* Feedback channel: in addition to emails and social media replies
(Twitter and what not), the best place to send feedback regarding add-on
update feature is GitHub via https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/3208.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Joseph

This does indeed work for Narrator.  Thanks for it.

I’m not worried though, as JAWS works as well as it ever did with settings, but I just thought I’d report it.

Update: I filed an internal bug report on this issue last night; my team is looking into it. In the meantime, if you run into this problem in the Settings app while using Narrator and regular Windows keyboard commands (Tab, down arrow etc.), you can try these steps:

Turn on Scan mode (Caps + Space), press down arrow a few times, then turn Scan mode back off (Caps + Space).  Narrator should now read when tabbing around or pressing arrow keys in the Settings app again.

This is a strange situation. I have  no problems here with Settings with  NVDA, Narrator, and Jaws2018.

I am using 64 bit Windows 10 18.03

Latest stable version of NVDA and Narrator. I updated Win 10 App Essentials today.

There therefore appears to be something on Steve’s machine and others which is triggering this problem.

I have  sympathy as there are  other aspects of my Win 10 setup which do not work as they should. I cannot for example ever get goldwqave to load properly.

I think the registration tool is run when you install nvda on the latest version looking at the log file. However if its run portably maybe not. so do check out the tool for re registering. Many screenreaders seem to do this nowadays due to the inept design of uninstaller packages not putting things back as they found them.

Hi

yes NVDA can be used with internet explorer along with mozilla fire fox
and google chrome and microsoft edge and a few others.

How are you trying to drive nvda on the web page?

there are 2 modes in the browser you use one is browse mode where you
can use single letter navigation keys such as H for headings, L for
lists and so on.

The other mode is focus mode this is where you can type into a editable
box like when you enter a email address or password etc in the browser.

Depending if you have sounds enabled you will hear 2 sounds if it is
like a letter typed it is in a edit area or if you hear the other sound
a like pong sound you are in browse mode.

If you want to hear what mode you are in use the ctrl key + nvda key +
the letter B and when the dialogue box comes up tab down until you hear
nvda say and uncheck that box called Audio indication of focus and
browse modes with the space bar.

Make sure then you save your settings with ctrl key +nvda key + the letter C

Are you hearing any thing when you tab on the page? if you are it may
just be the mode but if you hear pane or unknown you might have to run a
tool to fix it but this is only if it is in all browsers.

It works fine here the last time I tried.
Can you tell us whether any other browser works for you, or is it just ie 11?
I am assuming you are not in focus mode but in browse mode.
By which I mean if you are in an auto focus mode situation say in an editable text area, and its not switching back when you come out, you might try forcing it.

Definitely a bit of a tectonic shift in the NVDA settings between 2018.1.1 and 2018.2.1

I somehow hadn't updated, but when I did I realized that a revisitation of the settings structure needs to be on my to-do list.

Great that is the answer. you can not hit enter on the change but as you indicated use the spacebar to get the syn options to be changed. Thanks.

I thought this issue was only on a new install I did but it is also

happening on my old install of the latest released version of NVDA on a

up to date Win 10 system.

I open the NVDA UI go to preferences, settings then speech. It shows

the current selected speech syn but I can not move through the list of

other speech syns that should be available. So I guess the question is

how do you expand the list of available syns to make a selection?

Without using the NVDA UI you can use the key combination NVDA key

control s to open the speech options and a change can be easily made

with all installed syns showing up.

OK on Windows 7, opened the preferences, opened settings went to the speech bit, tabbed to the change button hit space and yes I can tab and fiddle with the synths, then set a new one and see the settings for that synth and tab around those and ok them as normal.
Thus unless something odd is going on in Windows 10 due to the one core default I'm stumped.

There is a under construction page that went up tonight for nvda screen reader related resources off the main website at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net
When more resources get added there may be links off the nvda related web pages on my website that point to that page.

I have a rough idea of categories for the resources.
These can be changed  or added to.

Would the directions from 10 also work on XP? to get into it as i used to do it the other way that was posted.

the old way to get into safe mode in windows 10 can be found here at https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-boot-to-safe-mode-with-command-prompt-2624541

You will need a pair of eyes to do this plus you might not even have sound.

So am guessing you will need to burrow some eyes and give them directions to fix the problem.

Re: Can NVDA be used with IE11?

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi

yes NVDA can be used with internet explorer along with mozilla fire fox
and google chrome and microsoft edge and a few others.

Have you tried using any other browser?  You may have the problem that comes when some dll files aren't registered.  I don't know if that problem affects Internet Explorer, however,  Others will very likely comment further on the problem and a solution that often works.
