Hi!
I don't see how it does the same as an OK button. It has a completely different purpose. If the dialog closes then, this should be filed as an issue.
Best,
Felix

Re: NVDA settings question

Off the top of my head I'd imagine a portable version could be used for this as well as both identities should be able to see it if its on a stick or a common area of windows folders.

Alternatively if its going to be always the same, then I seem to recall that there is an option to allow all users to access the same folders with restrictions. It worked on Windows 7, but not sure about 10.
Its a kind of super admin.

As for default state: starting from the next release, it'll be off by

Hi Joseph

This one is to do with the screen curtain.

I have noticed when nvda boots up the screen curtain is on. I have been told
by my sighted partner.

this is when you turn on the computer for the first time and not stand by.

so to make her happy i went to tools then screen curtain and pressed the
enter key on it so it would turn it off.

I then saved the configuration so it would not come up.

Computer gets turned off have a cup of coffee then boot back up the computer
from off.

When it boots back up the screen curtain goes back on so then if the wife
wants to use it i will turn it off.

She says she can not see the screen to do it lol rof. I use it all the time
that way i tell her.

I think may be the default should be off until you turn it on.

I am guessing if the sighted partner wanted to use the pc and did not know
they would be stumped. On my computer when ever one of my computers boots up
nvda comes on and so would the screen curtain until things are ironed out.

Will a short cut be created so it can be turned on and off quickly with out
going through the menus?

By the way where i hear the beeps could down the track maybe have it say
screen curtain on or off?

I do not know what others think but but would be easier than the beep. I
think it is high beep for on and low for off?

fI am going to get her to see when i go into other screens etc if it stays
on permanently until it is turned off I am guessing it will.

Yes but one should not have to use this kind of work around if the sound drivers and hardware were designed correctly in the first place. We were promised that any driver certified by Microsoft would be checked, this clearly is not happening.

Because it does the same thing as an ok button.  If there are no changes, what does an ok button do?  It closes the dialog and, it uses and saves changes you have made, or it may use and not save them if the program is designed to require you to permanently save the settings separately.  In this case, since you have made no changes, it changes nothing.  Ok means things are ok either as they are or as you have changed them.

I assume though that this add on will only be updated when any updates to the general synth is made, and hence is unlikely to be needed in an add on updater anyway.
I was just going to say that these issues are what happens when conventions alter due to updated code or indeed the syntax required by a compiler.
I remember in my youth, back when basic compilers existed, some conventions that worked in interpreted code failed when compiled!

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install Vocalizer Expressive Compact voices.

4. Open NVDA settings, and try going to Add-on Updater panel.

Expected: no errors, and add-ons excluded from update checks will be shown.

Actual: error in check list box.

Cause: add-on summary text for add-ons like Vocalizer Expressive Compact contains one or more commas, which causes manifest parser to treat it as a list instead of text.

Solutions: several, including short-term and long-term, good and bad. These include converting between strings and lists, checking for names of add-ons that causes this bug and what not.

In the meantime, I’ll prevent Vocalizer family of add-ons from appearing in “do not update” list in Add-on Updater settings panel. But this masks the fundamental problem: manifest data format problem, which should be fixed by add-on authors.

In the meantime, I’ll prevent Vocalizer family of add-ons from appearing in “do not update” list in Add-on Updater settings panel. But this masks the fundamental problem: manifest data format problem, which should be fixed by add-on authors.

There is an interesting discussion regarding this bug and related ideas happening on add-ons list at:

Thanks Rui,
I got it going.
I guess it wasn't in HID USB mode.

Have you placed your Orbit in HID USB mode, Emulation mode in Off and
Mode in USB?

Mine works, but I am Using last Alpha version...

Hey folks, I'm running NVDA 2018.2.1 and I'm trying to use my Orbit
Reader 20 with it. It is connected via USB and when I go in to the
nvda / settings / Braille menu and try and select the Baum / APH /
orbit option, I get the error tone and it says "could not load the
Baum display"

I've used my OR20 before with NVDA.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You can create a portable copy the install it on another PC. Remember to check Copy current user configuration  check box  not  on both sides.

You could just copy the NVDA folder in appdata - probably a better way but that’s how I provision machines with NVDA.
Thanks

Re: FW: [Nvda-devel] FW: [nvda] New speech framework in NVDA

Power saving feature of some Bluetooth headset may also cause similar issue. My bluetooth headset just cut off a few miliseconds from the begining of each segment of sound. When speed of speech is fast enough. ,the first word would be missing. My workround is launching a music player then adjust its volume to zero.
