A cool thing is that if I exit the site for whatever reason and then come back to it, even well after the browser session is closed, my place is usually “remembered” by youtube. However, I’d like to be able to specify the time at which to start playing in presentations that are sometimes 6+ hours long. I am pretty sure this can be done, but I’m having trouble figuring out where the cursor should be positioned to enter in the vlue. I have tried switching browse mode off and being in the position where the current elapsed time fo the recording is shown, but this doesn’t seem to do the trick. I believe I understand what the format should be (hours:minutes:seconds). Any tips? Thanks!

Re: In-Process for 7th September is out
I figured out the problem. The instructions and layout of the web page don't make this at all clear. I found and installed the latest main adde-on and then a voice and it worked.

Hmph, if you are happy to pay a load of cash for each version update from freedomscientiffic or visparo etc thats your issue, have issues with licences, need scripts for just about everything like win98 needs drivers, are happy with the possible bad technical support issues going about and are happy that if it screws up you need to repair, reinstall or reformat if it totally goes nuts, not to mention that visparo like suing everyone under the sun well more than I'd like, go ahead.
When I used their stuff it was ok, but yeah, I never really had that many problems with it.
Never got into the payed script racket, either.
I had to repair it once or twice, but that was before it became a beast.
Compaired to nvda well who knows.
The information bandied round the list pluss a few other user experiences not my own pluss the fact that due to jaws and issues causing me to have to reformat to make them completely quit, but mostly information on here pluss what I hear from time to time, especially with how they got all the competing companies bar dolphin and that probably because they only just moved out of using internet explorer puts the impression on me that like microsoft used to be and may still be that this is a monopoly I would really like to see the back of.
I certainly am happy I no longer use their software, and unless I got a job which is what jaws is bandied about by various governments and stuff, I wouldn't touch it unless I had the cash.
To be hhonest this goes for dolphin stuff which is why I got in the beta program but that was for a completely selfish reason that being smuglers, its about all I care about now days.
To be honest, I don't much care for a company who is clearly running a business for the charity, government and enterprise market with prices to high for average users to buy, and needing expensive upgrades and modules for remote access with specialised blindy bits and bobs.
Nvda and things like narator have opened me to the mainstream, and with mainstream devices like the amazon echo devices and smart phones about, when the new normal comes along, I think some of these things will fall away sharply.
Dolphin seems to recognise this, so does avast.
So does nvaccess which is why I use them for most of my stuff.
Now there are a few things nvda does not do, but everything has its limits.
But if you plan to use a wordprocesser, a desktop app, a web brouser or email client or any office app or app using standard controls or terminals then you don't need jaws for that.
Now some of the mega custom apps and the like specialised programs, will need specialised software, and yeah, jaws is what you need and will always need.
Thats not nvda's job.
The job of nvda is to handle all the normal business and home applications that use standard controls, and the like as well as web interfaces.
To be honest that is what may happen, specialised software will need specialised software, and will be charged accordingly.
The only reason I'd get jaws is leasy thats about the only reason I'd buy jaws now.
And to be honest if leasy would just sell its games module then I'd just buy that.

Re: In-Process for 7th September is out
I have RH Voice working here just fine. Latest Win 10 and latest stable NVDA. The only thing I've noticed with it is it can't pronounce currency or time values correctly at all. If I type 1:30, it just says 130 as one number ignoring the colon. Similar thing happens with US currency. It just ignores the dollar sign and reads all the digits as plain numbers. Aside from this, it works fine. Roger

This in short isn’t fair.
So, here’s hoping the newer upgrade to NVDA is more accessible for we blind flight simmer pilots.
Even though, in my opinion, JAWS is a much better program.
Just my opinion.

Re: In-Process for 7th September is out
Thanks. That's where I downloaded it from and I got no incompatibility message when I installed it. And as I said, I saw a number of messages from people who said it didn't work and a message or two from people saying it does, so there seems to be a problem that causes it not to work under some conditions.

The autocomplete problem is also present in VSCode Insider’s. This only happens when using VS or VSCode with NVDA. The earliest I remember the problem is NVDA 2019.1. JAWS/narrator have no problems with autocomplete. Sent from Mail for Windows 10 From: Joseph Lee Sent: Tuesday, September 8, 2020 3:46 PM To: nvda@nvda.groups.io Subject: Re: [nvda] Long-standing NVDA bug with visual studio still unresolved Hi, If the problem is seen with VS 2015 while using NVDA 2020.2, then it is something for us (NVDA developers) should investigate further. Since it is not seen with JAWS, try using it with Narrator and see if that makes a difference. If Narrator does not exhibit this issue, then it might be something to do with the way NVDA handles IntelliSense control (specifically, the API class associated with it). Cheers, Joseph A link to the GitHub issue for this problem can be found at the end of this message. It has been reported that there is a bug in NVDA such that when the user tries to arrow up or down through IntelliSense suggestions while working in the code editor of visual studio 2017 that it doesn’t just read the menu option but rather the whole line of code every time, making the feature almost unusable. I can confirm that this same issue still exists in visual studio 2019. It’s frustrating and disappointing that this bug has not been fixed. This problem did not exist in visual studio 2015 so we know NVDA is capable of properly announcing IntelliSense menu options, and the jaws screen reader does not exhibit this behavior so we know it’s not a problem with Microsoft. I’m really hoping somebody at NVDA will finally address and resolve this long-standing bug. Several tech savvy users have tried but haven’t been successful in correcting it.

Re: In-Process for 7th September is out
I don't know what determines when the add-on works. It doesn't work on my Windows 64 bit machine and I've seen a few other reports of it not working, but I don't know if there is a pattern.

However, and I'd have to play a lot more with this to determine if it was a fluke or an ongoing problem, it appeared to slow down my computer to have the SAPI 5 voice installed. As I said, to determine if that was just how things were for some other reason for the time I have the voice on my machine, which was only a short time, or whether it was caused by the SAPI 5 version would require more testing. When I removed the version, things returned to normal.

I think it is a vast improvement over the old one. NVDA doesn't randomly pop in and out of focus mode or zing me off somewhere on the page for no apparent reason.

Greetings I have been using Google slides at work for a while. I noticed that when I collaborate with other people they will comment about text size and formatting being inconsistent. I usually write slides with DragonDictate using the dictation box. I set my cursor over a text box in the slide, open the dictation box, dictate the text and then press the transfer button which essentially copies and pastes the text into the text box. I share this because I wonder if this could be adding to the formatting issues that I have. Does anybody have any tips for how you can make sure that the formatting of the text in your Google slides is consistent? Any thoughts about PowerPoint are also welcome. I find it is kind of difficult to get NVDA to give me text formatting information in Google suite. Regards Justin Harford (he/him/his)

Re: Long-standing NVDA bug with visual studio still unresolved
Hi, I’ll do my best to reproduce the problem (I have VS 2019 Community on my system; mostly used to build NVDA but now I get to use the full IDE for this purpose). Cheers, Joseph

The autocomplete problem is also present in VSCode Insider’s. This only happens when using VS or VSCode with NVDA. The earliest I remember the problem is NVDA 2019.1. JAWS/narrator have no problems with autocomplete.

NVDA and an new facebook experience
Hi to all of you, Firstly, let me ask you: How do you like the upcoming new facebook look? I am just asking not to report any bugs, but to hear from you as far as NVDA and this new FB are concerned. On Google chrome, they work well for me. I no longer have problems in relation to NVDA's jumping up and down of its own accord when I work in the posts and/or comments area. To be as clear as possible, when I am in one of these, NVDA is quite calm. When I press the play button to play a video, it goes well for me. Secondly, let me state that I'm very, very satisfied with NVDA while walking through the FB interface, although I have not explored all of the new FB features. Finally, I think that you are happy when you've got a post whose contents does not refer to any bugs. If you ask me, I am, for I'm the one to have just sent you such a message. Stay safe and be happy to hear that such messages are also welcome here. Re: Pressing enter starts context menu.
Do you have system restore points? If the problem has something to do with the registry, running a restore point will revert the registry.

Hello everyone, To somerise, I've been encountering a problem on firefox running the latest version of NVDA where on certain pages, including the search results page on google, where pressing enter on a link brings up the context menu rather than actually entering it. Alt+enter works fine, but regular enter does not on some pages.
Earlier in the morning I had tried playing arround with the mouse settings and the regedit in order to solve another problem that I had been having, but when the solutions for that issue didn't work I reversed thos actions. Thats when I started having the problem. I've tested the problem with JAWS using firefox and chrome, and with NVDA using chrome and there was no problem, but firefox with NVDA shows the problem.
Any ideas?
