Hello,

I will briefly explaining to you what you have to do to fix this problem.

Firstly, open your Dropbox preferences, go to the General tab,

Then press tab four times until you here dropbox Badge, set it to never show down.

Press OK and you would be done.

Re: sends the contents of the clipboard to the remote machine

Hi Brian

I’m confused by your remark:

“But having text be pushable from one side of the remote session to the other using the clipboard is impossible in many instances, and remains so.  I was just working with someone across the country with an Outlook VBA issue, and I could not cut the script text (or parts of it) on my end and paste it there (which is what would have typically made the most sense if we were not talking a remote session).”

NVDA Remote does facilitate the pushing of clipboard text, it’s the copying of whole files by simply selecting a filename that cannot be done via NVDA Remote.

Cheers

Chris

If I know I will be needing or wanting to transfer files between two machines during a remote session, I can easily open something in Google Drive, or Amazon S3 storage, or OneDrive on each side that is accessing the very same folder where I can cut from my local machine and paste to cloud storage (or upload to cloud storage, it really depends on the exact interface being used) and where I can do the converse on the other end.

Moving files between machines has probably never been easier than it is now with the myriad of cloud storage options available, a very great many of them free.

Mind you, had I been really desperate to have repeated, ongoing, exchange of text I would probably create a file on cloud storage that I could open on either end and paste text in to it on the source side and copy it out on the target side and do with it what was needed.  But that's still a lot less convenient than being able to copy to the clipboard and hit a command to say, "push the contents of my clipboard to the remote side,"  and have a way to just paste on that side.

Yes, my company also sells Vocalizer Expressive for NVDA and Eloquence for Windows (SAPI5).

Our Vocalizer product is different from the one from CodeFactory, despite using the same voices.

Let me encourage you to beware of CodeFactory.

I bought the CodeFactory Eloquence about two years ago from CodeFactory, mostly because I had become used to Eloquence with JAWS.

After installing and reinstalling it without success, our IT Department (and we have over 1,000 employees and an IT staff of over 20 people), CodeFactory’s technical support just said “Sorry.”

Certainly, our level of security is higher than most, but for technical support simply to give up and not even offer a refund left our IT Department and me amazed.  What kind of organization does that?

It was only $30, but for me, it is a matter of integrity.  I might have refused an offer of a refund, but not even to offer one spoke volumes to me about the integrity of the organization.

I’m happy with Microsoft’s One Core voices.  In fact, when I use JAWS with Eloquence, it is just a bit unpleasant now.

You can use the SAPI5 version of Eloquence or the NVDA add-on sold by CodeFactory.

As the NVDA add-on have a bad sound on some systems, I recommend to test the add-on or buy the SAPI5 version...

Well, Microsoft's own Quick Assist does not.  I'd have to imagine it's not alone.  The ones I know of that do have their own built-in mechanisms for selecting the file on one side, sending it, then fetching it on the other.  It's not a straight copy and paste in the conventional sense.

I just submitted feedback minutes ago regarding the inability, in Quick Assist, to copy text on the assistant's side then paste it on the remote side, and vice versa.  That would likely require a special paste button that's a part of the remote session, but that's still way easier than having to do workarounds.

Hi,   this only works with text right?   You can not copy a file from local machine and send it to the remote machine?

I have not tried it with graphical content or other formatted type text or data.
I have transferred word documents this way, by opening them on the remote, selecting all, copying, sending it to the control, and pasting into another word document on my local machine.

A pain, but it works.

And if there is a MIME encoder (or UU Encoder) on the remote, any file could be losslessly converted to text and moved this way.  But that is a lot of effort.

Hi Look, agreed. and I do not know why this has not been added yet to this addon. maybe one day it might be done but I remember asking on list some time ago about this and was told more or Les this is not going to happen. it's a shame as it is a nice addon but if I want to install a program on the remote machine I can not go from local machine copy a file switch over to the remote machine and paste the file over. now I am sure that remote desk top can do it and it is good as well but only in windows10 pro. I said windows10 because this is what most of us use now a days. Sara I did not reply because I have had other stuff going on but when I did read Your post I just thoughtstrange comment. but each to there own not having a go at You so please do not take it the wrong way.

I would guess not. I can see a legal battle if that were to ever be implemented.
Why, Sarah? Every other remote desktop platform out there can move files from one machine to the other. I know people who run their whole business that way: moving files to and from remote computers at remote locations without human employees via the Splashtop remote desktop tool, which they also use to control what happens to those files.
NVDA Remote really needs this capability.
If you let someone you don't trust into your computer, then you bear the outcome.
That aside, if someone is doing a remote session and really badly wants a file from you, there are several ways they can acquire it--SCP from your machine to another, a web uploader, an email attachment, good old FTP, and more.
It's all just much less convenient than having the remote desktop software do it.

using the Brightspace learning system with a screen reader

Janet Brandly

Hello all,

Has anyone out there used the Brightspace learning management system from D2L with a screen reader, specifically NVDA? They claim to follow international web accessibility standards and have some related documentation, but I’m wondering whether NVDA has any specific addons or whether anyone might have any tips or suggestions for using this software.

Thanks,

Janet

Sorry, that happens with a new document or with a document you have received by mail or donloaded from Internet?

I am using the standard arrow keys for navigation. Indeed, it
sometimes become difficult to read with the standard arrow keys for
navigation. The problem is when I try to write or read. Because, when
I open a document to read and edit, the system carret (the edit
cursor) remains at the beginning of the document. And when I try to
read word by word with control + left/right arrow, it doesn’t work. In
this case, I read word by word with control+nvda key + left/right
arrow, which is reading keystroke for text review mode. to be able to
edit and read with the standard arrow keys for navigation, I restart
my pc; and it temporarily works fine.

I cann’t even get back to normal mode by pressing insert+back space.
why does it become like that? What is the solution?

Re: How to hide rows with certain text value in Excel

I like to select my rows by holding the shift key as I arrow down colmn A. I then press control and space which highlights the entire row in each case thus completing the block of cells.

After selecting all your rows, there are three ways to hide them.

I took this from the web:

If you enjoy working with the ribbon, you can hide rows in this way:

1.Go to the Home tab > Cells group, and click the Format button.

2.Under Visibility, point to Hide & Unhide, and then select Hide Rows.

Hide rows in Excel using the ribbon.

Alternatively, you can click Home tab >Format > Row Height and type 0 in the Row Height box.

Either way, the selected rows will be hidden from view straight away.

Hide rows using the right-click menu

In case you don't want to bother remembering the location of the Hide command on the ribbon, you can access it from the context menu: right click the selected rows, and then click Hide.

Hide rows in Excel via the right-click menu.

Excel shortcut to hide row

If you'd rather not take your hands off the keyboard, you can quickly hide the selected row(s) by pressing this shortcut: Ctrl + 9

Subject: [nvda] How to hide rows with certain text value in Excel

Hello list,

So, I’m having a bit of  a brain cramp here and need a refresher.

I periodically receive an excel spreadsheet (Office 2016) with hundreds of rows of data for my interpreting business. I have to select which assignments I can cover. There are a myriad of languages and services in this spreadsheet throughout the state of California. As I mainly cover Spanish language assignments, filtering by that language is easy enough, but within that language, there is another criteria in another cell specifying the type of interpretation service requested. Legal, Medical, standard, etc. So, I don’t really cover legal interpretation

And this is where I’m stuck. I’d like to be able to hide the appointments/rows where the requested service is “In Court Certified,” but can’t find where to do it. I’ve poked around online and there are some step-by-step instructions, but either I can’t follow the sequence or they involve macros. I’m not against using macros per say even though I’m not too familiar with them, but I figure there has to be a way to simply hide the rows I’m not interested in seeing and condensing the spreadsheet.

These appointments are pretty much first come first serve, so being able to better filter out the superfluous ones would be a huge help to my productivity instead of sifting through one by one to see if it’s legal or not.

I’m mainly a Jaws user, but I suppose this sort of inquiry can apply to Jaws or NVDA.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cristóbal
