And because everyone isn't a whizzkid, I explained, giving every step, how to copy an address from a web page and paste it into the message.  There has been no response to my message.  This isn't just a skil that is important in instances like this.  It is important when you want to send something to someone in an e-mail message, such as a page with an article you want them to read.  It is a fundamental skill of Internet use.  There has been no response to my message.  When three people ask you for information and one of them gives a detailed step-by-step description of how to do it and when there is no response, I refuse to help further until some indication is given that the person is willing to learn how to provide information properly.  If this indication is given, if the person does it or says he doesn't understand how to do something I wrote, some sort of meaningful response, then I'll be happy to help again.  But not until then.  Part of asking for help is learning the proper way to provide information if you don't know how.

Hello,

Of course it would have been easier if we had the URL in the first
place, but, having visited the website, for a site perporting to be for
blind people, it is not very blind friendly, I think our friend who
first asked the question did very well to actually get the file to play.
All the suggestions have had their merits, but I think that it will be
more straightforward to just get it playing and then use an audio editor
to record it in real time.
Perhaps someone will look at the site and make it more blind friendly,
now that we have the site, step by step instructions would be helpful
for downloading an MP3 file, because I couldn't do this, why they are
buried deep in the site is beyond me.
finally, we should remember that not everyone is a wizz kid with
computers, including myself, surely this list is to help those who are
still learning, perhaps learning the basics, even if it is frustrating
at times. Let's hope we haven't put our friend off from asking questions
in future.

If that really is the site Anthony's talking about (I await his
confirmation), then there are MP3 URLs embedded in the source code of
the
podcast pages, and those URLs can be downloaded as offline-playable
MP3s.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a standard pattern for
converting a
podcast page URL to the corresponding MP3 download URL, but it's
certainly
possible to download the podcasts.

I found the URLs by starting from a page with the player on it,
pressing
the Windows Context key (without any link focused) and then selecting
"View Page Info" from the context menu which appears. If you then
move
one icon to the right (from "General" to "Media"), you get a list of
all
the media links on the page, and one of them is the downloadable MP3.

I hope that helps,

Antony.

The problem is that we don't know what you are trying to download, and the
instructions for how to download it may be different depending on what it
is.

Show us a URL for the podcast, or at least for a page containing a link to
it, and we can take a look for ourselves to try and help you.

Until you show us the specific thing you want to download, we're just

Hello Rosemarie,

I have to stay with outlook since it is the only allowed mail program in my company.
I am using now the outlook.py from the 2017.4 release and it works fine in 2018.1RC, but that can't be the final solution. The solution is to fix the outlook.py in 2018.1.RC.

Scott,

It's odd to me that your Mail App is presenting conversations (and conversation view is on by default) in "oldest to newest" order.  Mine is reverse chronological, "newest to oldest," and I've done nothing to tweak that.

By the way, you, like many others, have the default signature that Microsoft includes, "Sent from Mail for Windows 10," at the end of your message.  You can turn that off, or substitute it with a signature of your choosing, in the Signature setting.  I simply flipped the switch to off so no signature is included.

So not clear what the difference is between the two, but to me it sounds
like the dll had become unregistered and now its registered again.
I used to get this issue a lot with dlls belonging to the mp3 decoder used
by Goldwave when Winamac was on the system. in the end I had to copy another
copy to the right place then register that with the system and it has never
complained since. My feeling is that its easy to get multiple entries in the
registry or delete ones that have path details needed by a different piece
of soft3ware. Brian

not sure if installing jaws 18 fixed the jaws 2018 dll issue with nvda can any one please confirm this am trying to figure out if I need to send a nvda log with the error that it was giving me

something screwy is conflicting I mean I got the issue fixed for now but I need to see if I am the only one having this issue if not then I think a bug needs to be filed.

if I am the only one running in to this issue what can I do to help track this issue?

Hi All,

Looking for help with subject lines. I hate to be picky, but I monitor multiple lists focused on computer access. I am sure that many others here do the same. It would be very helpful if posters could provide enough information in the subject line to understand what an issue might actually be. Subjects like “Big Problem with *** or “Question”, or “help” are just not Helpful in determining if I can help, or if I have the same problem. Something like, “Not able to read choices in Word spell checker” is a clearer advertisement for a post. Catch your reader with your tag line!

As moderator, I'll take this opportunity to say that this is important.  This is something people should pay serious attention to.  It's not just a question of doing this because this or that person asks.  It's doing it because it is being considerate to many users who rely on subject lines to determine if they want to read a message.  Some people get hundreds of messages a day.  In addition, you will have a better chance of having your message read by more people, thus, you might get better help.

It's called a subject line for a reason.  It's the line that defines the subject of a message.  Lines like help, a question, just wondering, etc. give no useful information.  A subject, what a message is about, has nothing to do with whether you are curious, are wondering something or whatever state of mind or general need such as "help" you are describing.  A subject line describes what the message is about.  Please be considerate and help yourself at the same time.  Please use proper subject lines.

Subject: [nvda] Details in subject line would help everyone

Hi All,

Looking for help with subject lines. I hate to be picky, but I monitor multiple lists focused on computer access. I am sure that many others here do the same. It would be very helpful if posters could provide enough information in the subject line to understand what an issue might actually be. Subjects like “Big Problem with *** or Question, or help are just not Helpful in determining if I can help, or if I have the same problem. Something like, “Not able to read choices in Word spell checker” is a clearer advertisement for a post. Catch your reader with your tag line!

Thanks,

Rick

Re: something strange in outlook

The point is that if you don't have Word, it can't use the Word editor unless a stripped down version is included in the program itself.

Since this problem doesn't exist in earlier versions of NVDA, you can avoid the problem by using an earlier version.  If you don't use any features in the newest version, you can just go back.  If you do use features of the new version, then depending on how important they are to you, you can try using a portable version of NVDA in an older version while working with Outlook.

If you don't have word, how can it use it? Wordpad. I use Jarte for everyday
stuff and word if I need to see tables and page breaks etc.

The program uses what it uses.  You can't switch the editor portion of the program.  It isn't something people would generally want to do and it wasn't provided for.  You can try an earlier version of NVDA, which might work around the problem.

Hi, Ralph,

I wonder if I could change the editing part to wordpad so I don't get that
strange message.

The editing part of Word is included in MS Outlook. No need to have MS Word
installed.
