Re: question

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Its not a problem its how the page is designed. You could look at the code in the downloaded page to see if it has any file name in it, odds are though it uses a javascript routine to find the file which you are unable to access any other way, ie, its not designed for download just listening on line, in which case if you want to keep it you may have to resort to virtual recorder as somebody else said.

this is not related to the file type, it's how the site is constructed.

We don't know, but my guess is that, in this case, Internet Explorer is
being used and the file opens in Windows Media player, hence the question of
how to save from there.

In the context of other browsers, not the archaic Internet Explorer, the
file is played in the browser when you press enter on the link. If you are
on a site where save target as or equivalent doesn't work, you need to know
that you can use the command control s while the file is playing, and save
it while in the browser in that way.

Of course, that presupposes that you are dealing with an actual file that is
playing from the site as a file, and not a stream. The stream plays a
little of a file and then refreshes the buffer in the browser or player but
the entire file is never available. Just a little bit ahead of where you
are listening. It can't be saved because it is a stream, not a file playing
as a file from the web site. Since this is called a podcast in the
question, the odds are that it is an actual file being played from the web
site, not a stream as I am using the word.

try the context menu, [key to the left of the right control key on a

Hi Joseph and all,

First off, thanks for all the work that you do on these addons. I just wanted to point out a slight inconsistancy that I'm experiencing with win10 app essencials.

Every time I do an alt+tab to move to a different application, I hear task switching.

Disabling the addon fixes this. I'm just wondering if this is expected, and if so if there's a way to get around this?

I'm running windows10-1709 64bit and nvda 2017.4

Thanks for any help with this,

I get this all the time in word. I have a feeling its nvda hooking into

Re: question

Gene

Do you know how to go to the page you are working with,  copy the address from the actual page to the clip board, then paste it into a message?  Just giving the name without a suffix such as org or com with the user not having any idea what it is is not sufficient.  Also, the user has no idea whether the podcast is on the home page or some other page.  If you don't know how to copy an address from the address bar of the browser you are using, let us know.  You are not giving sufficient information.

Hi, Anthony,

While the podcast is playing, hit the alt key and arrow down to the file menu. Hit enter on it and arrow down to "save as". Next, follow the prompts for downloading a file. You'd type in the name of the file and then tab to the save button and hit either space bar or enter on it.

Hope this helps.

No, tell us the *actual address* that goes into the web browser.

The bit starting with http:// or https://

Do not assume that if we look up "NCBI Technology" in a search engine, we will
end up on the same web page as you are looking at.

Tell the actual address of the specific page.

Thank you,

I discussed the file type briefly but my main point is that using the context menu will allow you to save files on some sites and not on others.  this is not related to the file type, it's how the site is constructed.

We don't know, but my guess is that, in this case, Internet Explorer is being used and the file opens in Windows Media player, hence the question of how to save from there.

In the context of other browsers, not the archaic Internet Explorer, the file is played in the browser when you press enter on the link.  If you are on a site where save target as or equivalent doesn't work, you need to know that you can use the command control s while the file is playing, and save it while in the browser in that way.

Of course, that presupposes that you are dealing with an actual file that is playing from the site as a file, and not a stream.  The stream plays a little of a file and then refreshes the buffer in the browser or player but the entire file is never available.  Just a little bit ahead of where you are listening.  It can't be saved because it is a stream, not a file playing as a file from the web site.  Since this is called a podcast in the question, the odds are that it is an actual file being played from the web site, not a stream as I am using the word.

The problem is that we don't know what you are trying to download, and the
instructions for how to download it may be different depending on what it
is.

Show us a URL for the podcast, or at least for a page containing a link to
it, and we can take a look for ourselves to try and help you.

Until you show us the specific thing you want to download, we're just
guessing at the best way to do it, and that's both inefficient and
potentially unhelpful.

Re: question

I'm sorry, but three people have asked for more information such as the address of the page you are working with.  At this point, no one may be able to help without more information.  Even with more information, there may be no way to do what you want except to record the material as it plays.  But we can't tell you any more without the information we have asked for.  You also didn't tell the list if anything worked or what happened if you tried suggestions such as my instructions about what to do when Windows Media Player starts to play the file.  If you tried them and nothing happened, the save as dialog didn't open, for example, we would have more information but not as good as the actual page you are working with.  If you don't know how to send the address I'll tell you if you ask here.  But there is no point in me discussing the actual problem further unless you want to know how to record, without more information.

But when you press enter on the link, what happens?  Does it play In Media
Player?  I believe someone described how to download a file such as a
podcast playing in Windows Media Player.  But before that method is of any
use to you, does the file open in the player?

How are you getting to the podcast in the first place?  Is it playing in
Media Player?

According to the help page, which can be accessed via the manage addons dialog, the key combo is shift+ctrl+1

Other than that i don’t know

For those of you who use the Mosilla AddON, I can't seem to get into the

Contact's Context menu via Shift+NVDA+1; it takes me back to the folder

in which I'm in, instead of bringing up the Context menu frmo which I

can interact with the contact (add him/her to my contacts list, EMail

him/her directly etc). I've restarted NVDA just in case, but still the

same issue.
