Re: how to enable one core voices in windows ten to use with nvda?

Chris Mullins

Hi

On Windows 10 2004 and NVDA 2020.1, loading a language pack makes the related OneCore voices available.  I just had the UK english language pack loaded but wanted the OneCore Mark voice, so I loaded US English language pack and the voice became available to NVDA along with 3 other voices.  No registry tweaks necessary.

Cheers

Chris

Re: NVDA Portable - What are the differences when using it?

from nvda user guide.
3. Getting and Setting Up NVDA
If you have not yet got a copy of NVDA, you can download it from
www.nvaccess.org.
Go to the download section and you will find a link to download the
latest version of NVDA.
Running the file you have just downloaded will start a temporary copy
of NVDA. You will then be asked if you want to install NVDA, create a
portable copy or just continue using the temporary copy.
If you plan to always use NVDA on this computer, you will want to
choose to install NVDA. Installing NVDA will allow for additional
functionality such as automatic starting after logon, the ability to
read the Windows Logon and Windows security screens (which cannot be
done with portable and temporary copies) and creation of Start Menu
and desktop shortcuts. The installed copy is also able to create a
portable copy itself at any time.
If you want to take NVDA with you on a USB thumb drive or other
writable media, then you should choose to create a portable copy. The
portable copy also has the ability to install itself on any computer
at a later time. However, if you wish to copy NVDA onto read-only
media such as a CD, you should just copy the download package. Running
the portable version directly from read-only media is not supported at
this time.
Using the temporary copy of NVDA is also an option (e.g. for
demonstration purposes), though starting NVDA in this way each time
can become very time consuming.
3.1. Portable and Temporary Copy Restrictions
Apart from the inability to automatically start during and/or after
log-on, the portable and temporary copies of NVDA also have the
following restrictions:
• The inability to interact with applications running with
administrative privileges, unless of course NVDA itself has been run
also with these privileges (not recommended).
• The inability to read User Account Control (UAC) screens when trying
to start an application with administrative privileges.
• Windows 8 and later: the inability to support input from a touch screen.
• Windows 8 and later: the inability to provide features such as
browse mode and speaking of typed characters in Windows Store apps.
• Windows 8 and later: audio ducking is not supported.
3.3. Creating a Portable Copy
If creating a portable copy directly from the NVDA download package,
simply press the Create Portable Copy button. If you have already
closed this dialog or you are running an installed copy of NVDA,
choose the Create Portable copy menu item found under Tools in the
NVDA menu.
The Dialog that appears allows you to choose where the portable copy
should be created. This can be a directory on your hard drive or a
location on a USB thumb drive or other portable media. There is also
an option to choose whether NVDA should copy the logged on user's
current NVDA configuration for use with the newly created portable
copy. This option is only available when creating a portable copy from
an installed copy, not when creating from the download package.
Pressing Continue will create the portable copy. Once creation is
complete, a message will appear telling you it was successful. Press
OK to dismiss this dialog.

I actually do not know if this is random or not random. however I noticed after I used thunderbird I could not in let's say discord read the letters and stuff I typed with nvda. I could select words as it read that, I think. I can't really say steps to reproduce. I'm using NonVisual
Version: 2020.1.

A reboot of NVDA seems to fix the problem until it happens again.

You might stop the entire problem by turning automatic switching tbetween browse mode and focus mode off. Just one more example of too much automation and why it is better to switch between these states manually.

Hi from me,

You say that you happen to face it on Firefox. I face it on Google
Chrome. That's to say, when I come upon the like button in the reactions
toolbar area while in the browse mode, NVDA automatically switches to
the focus mode. And then, when I hit escape as you do, NVDA's focus is
thrown somewhere else. To get rid of the inconveniences, I go to the
NVDA menu, choose the advanced submenu, and then tab to the
automatically set system focus to focusable elements to uncheck it just
to stop NVDA's focus skipping of its own accord. When I do that, I can
use www.facebook.com much better when I walk through the reactions area
and the comments area.

Both Chrome and NVDA are the latest versions (NVDA being the latest
stable).

If you do want to hear punctuation elsewhere, it may require some sort of regular expression in the speech dictionary. Others may be able to tell you how to implement it.

the recognition is in process. it also lets me know when it finishes

press insert +r. it is dead silence. does this nvda OCR recognition
really work.

how to enable one core voices in windows ten to use with nvda?

hello every one.
i know that nvda since its version 2017.3,
has support for mobile one core voice.
how can someone activate these voices?
using sapi5 is very easy with nvda, and it does not require registry.
but i remember somewhere i read about one core voices to be activated
by changing registry.
the instruction was extremely difficult and professional that i could
not understand!
is this true for one core voices in newer versions of windows ten?
thanks for any help, God bless you!

Yes, you can recognize documents in Amhariclanguage.

The instructions are:

# NAPS2TesseractOCR

* Authors: Rui Fontes <rui.fontes@...> and Ângelo Abrantes <ampa4374@...>

## Information
This add-on uses the Tesseract OCR engine, packaged by NAPS2, both open source and free, to perform optical character recognition to an image document, whether PDF, JPG, TIF or other, without having to open the document.
It also can uses a scanner as origin of the material to be recognized.

In the NVDA menu, Preferences, a section NAPS2TesseractOCR is added, where you can configure the language to be used for recognition.

## Supported languages
The languages supported in this version are:
Afrikaans
German
Amharic
Arabic
Bulgarian
Burnes
Canarim
Spanish (Spanish)
Catalan / Valencian
Czech
Simplified Chinese
Traditional Chinese
Korean
Croatian
Danish
Slovak
Slovenian
Finnish
French
Galician
Georgian
Greek
Hebrew
Hindi
Hungarian
Indonesian
English
Irish
Icelandic
Italian
Japanese
Latvian
Lithuanian
Macedonian
Dutch
Nepalese
Norwegian
Persian
Polish
Portuguese
Punjabi
Kyrgyz
Romanian / Moldovan
Russian
Serbian (Latin)
Swedish
Thai
Tamil
Turkish
Ukrainian
Urdu
Vietnamese

## Supported image types
This add-on supports the following file types:
PDF
jpg
tif
png
bmp
pnm
pbm
pgm
jp2
gif
jfif
jpeg
tiff
spix
webp

## Commands
The command to start the character recognition process is:
Shift + NVDA + r for documents on your PC
Control + Shift + NVDA + r to recognize documents through scanning.

Then just wait for the 1.pdf file to open.
If you want to preserve the recognized text, be sure to save the document under another name and in another location, as all files in the temporary folder are deleted at the end of the process!

## Known issues
* This version only works on Windows 10 64-bit systems.

* If a folder does not have, at the beginning of the full path, the reference to the drive letter, as, for example, in Windows 10 with the Documents, Downloads, etc. folders, the add-on cannot determine the full path of the file, and so you will not be able to perform optical character recognition.
This is a known Windows problem and, as far as I know, cannot be solved.
An alternative is to open the folder through the Start menu ... Just type the name of the folder until NVDA announces what we want ...

You can grab it at:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wrqdabkl9sqplfl/NAPS2TesseractOCR.nvda-addon?dl=1

Sorry, it is not yet perfect, but it works and it is free!
Please, do not discuss it with any other person by now...

Re: CODE FACTORY’S ELOQUENCE SAYING THE TIME WEIRD?

Chris

Try changing the time display format in the clock addon itself rather than trying to tweak the synth

Sorry for not clarifying: it’s not the punctuation I’m talking about. It’s how it reads numbers while in the time: in Tiflotecnia’s Vocalizer, and Acapela, 7:30PM, it reads it when spoken: 7:30, whereas the Code Factory’s Eloquence, reads it as 07/.30. what setting needs to be changed for Eloquence to read it as with the other synths? Hope I’m making better sense this time around?

What setting needs to be changed for the time to be read right, like with Tiflotecnia’s vocalizer which reads it right? Thanks for info.

Re: Focus Issues on Facebook Desktop Site Using Firefox

Dejan Ristic

Hi from me,

You say that you happen to face it on Firefox. I face it on Google Chrome. That's to say, when I come upon the like button in the reactions toolbar area while in the browse mode, NVDA automatically switches to the focus mode. And then, when I hit escape as you do, NVDA's focus is thrown somewhere else. To get rid of the inconveniences, I go to the NVDA menu, choose the advanced submenu, and then tab to the automatically set system focus to focusable elements to uncheck it just to stop NVDA's focus skipping of its own accord. When I do that, I can use www.facebook.com much better when I walk through the reactions area and the comments area.

Both Chrome and NVDA are the latest versions (NVDA being the latest stable).

Hello. Is the subject apt for anyone else but me? I am having many focus issues on the Facebook desktop site, using NVDA alpha-20400,675c4c54. I"m using Firefox 77.0.1 on Windows 10 version 1909 Build 18363.900. I've had focus issues for quite some time. Here are latest issues. I will do my best to describe.

When I read posts, I use browse mode, pressing "h" to move from heading to heading. If I want to like a post, I navigate to the like button. When I press enter on it, it appears to be stuck in the reactions area. If I press escape, I am thrown somewhere else on the page.

I try to comment on a post I liked, and it has me doing things to the reactions. I hit the escape key and again, I"m thrown somewhere else on the page. I hope I can help you all solve this one. It is annoying, to say the least.
