Hmmm, well if you find out what is doing what you can probably report it, by the time you find out a manual check will probably yeald an update, I had a similar issue with my win10 workstation a little while ago after a feature update.

All things were updated, the automatics said nothing at all.

I updated, the system did not start.

I plugged it in and it did start but with a display problem.

I reloaded the display drivers the last one I had and it worked.

I then did a check for the drivers in the usual automated way and there were updates but I thought I'd check manually.

And found a lot were never detected, in fact just about everything from the bios to the firmware was not updated, no wander I was having issues.

I wouldn't trust my updater fully ever again.

Sometimes updaters can give updates for the wrong hardware to intel did that for a while but has fixed itself.

Hi,
I also sent this to national braille press in the hope there will be a firmware fix real soon… Here is a quick review of braille me. I really like it. Sort of. My issues?
1. BrailleMe emits a loud smoke-alarm type beep when turning on, shutting off, system errors, and battery low. It’s loud and will be a big distraction in class, church, business meetings, and so on. They have to add an option to turn off all beeps and tones emitted by braille me.
2. The five problem characters. Dot 4, dots 4-5, dots 2-4-6, dots 1-2-4-5-6, and dots 1-2-5-6. And uppercase and lowercase letters. Braille me reads uppercase letters-only as it stands now. If it sees lowercase letters in its brl or brf files, it ignores them. Braille me expects uppercase. It also expects and read this carefully with your arrow keys. For the five dot combinations listed above, it currently expects to see: @^[]\ … again read with your arrows or turn on all punctuation in the screen reader of your choice because I wrote at sign and caret and some other symbols used to drive braille devices. Braille me expects those. But if it sees, `~{}| … again use all punctuation… and if it sees lowercase rather than uppercase letters it just shows empty cells. This is a problem. Also, lack of word wrap, no compress whitespace and multiple linefeeds to make reading on displays easier, move by page either when hitting a formfeed character or move back and forth by 1000 characters or a braille page, that has to be added as well. Along with ability to add and delete your own custom bookmarks to make studying easier. When using with NVDA, and expand word at the cursor to computer braille is checked, it cannot show capital letters due to only a six dot cell. It cannot show dot7. I propose having capital letters in computer braille, i.e. letters with dot7 or any dot7 combinations to blink up and down. Also no ability to input any kind of braille into the computer. This should be added. Other than that. It’s fine. Other than that I am quite impressed with it! Cursor routing works great.

2   There are tricks one could try to do this, but why not just install NVDA?

3.  Speech off is exactly what it says.  Sleep mode keeps NVDA running, but essentially disables over the application where you put it to sleep it until you wake it up.  It's watching for one and only one command, NVDA+Shift+Z to wake it up when focus is on that application.  Here's what the Commands Quick Reference says:  Sleep mode disables all NVDA commands and speech/braille output for the current application.  This is most useful in applications that provide their own speech or screen reading features.  Press the command again to disable sleep mode.

Much also has to do w/Skype, & you should check under audio options so
that volume are not lowered for Skype calls. You should also check
under the 'Sounds' applet of your Windows Control panel. Go to the
'Communications' tab & select the 'do Nothing' option' in order not to
make Windows lower volumes.

Speech off turns off nvda's speech globally while sleep mode silences

In the latest nvda system, the lib folders are renamed and new files are

written to new copies, then the old files deleted. If any of this fails then

this error can occur. I noticed it with another piece of software about a

week ago. A complete clear out fixed it.

However great care went into the fail safe nature for nvda in this regard,

but it might well be a very old  version of nvda if then updated to a very

You said that it was uninstalled.  That doesn't mean all files were removed.

The next question, which has been discussed here before but which I didn't

try to remember the answer to, is what files are left when uninstalling.  It

appears from the cannot overwrite a file message, that at least one file is

in use.  I don't know why but such questions may help you solve the proboem.

Perhaps something wasn't fully uninstalled that should have been and Windows

is keeping a file in use, perhaps because a registry entry is still present

that tells it to.  In short, I suspect that completely removing the program

may require dealing with such questions or, perhaps, going into safe mode

and removing the extra files.

It's probably not your decision, and I don't know how much influence you have over the process, but just for general reference, if this database is going to be used by multiple people simultaneously, Microsoft Access is *not* the program to be used for this, since it doesn't do well with such usage.  Of course, if it's just something that will be posted for others to grab a copy when needed, then that doesn't apply, and the use is just fine, but just be aware of that before trying to build a whole subdepartment on such a system, it won't go well.

Hi,

Yes, the hardware is all right. I had some concerns about it when I got my preproduction unit (battery rattling around loosely, easily fixed), but I understand they’ve fixed some of that stuff, and you get a carrying case now…I haven’t got that yet, I hope to be getting a replacement unit with the hardware issues and firmware updates addressed. Hopefully Josh can comment on the case.

One other thing to note: charging is not via USB. In fact, there is no USB charging at all. Charging is via a dedicated charging socket using some sort of laptop power supply, 19 volts at a couple amps…I forget exactly. Anyway, charging is fast, being done in an hour, which should make up for any sort of inconvenience introduced by not being a USB charger.

Hello,

I believe this is a long standing known issue and is true in some other Assitive Technologies that Firefox content is not recognized if the AT was started after the content was rendered.

In some cases a refresh of the page has resolved issues like this, but Firefox has gone through a major change in accessibility access since I first looked at these issues.

I wonder, does hitting the control-alt-N command restart NVDA when Firefox is running and if so, does this also cause a lost of NVDA navigation within the current Firefox page?

Thanks,

Hi,
I also sent this to national braille press in the hope there will be a firmware fix real soon… Here is a quick review of braille me.

Ervin, Glenn

I never used the shortcuts, I just went through the menus.

You can still jump to the sheet with the shortcuts just as before.

Are you in the synthesizer dialog, control NVDA key s, or the voice
dialog, control NVDA key v.

First, you move to SAPI 5 in the synthesizer dialog, then activate the ok
button. Then, open the voice dialog and find the voice you want in the
list and activate the ok button.

I don't know what you have done but you may be looking in the wrong
places.

I don't use the new version of NVDA but the latest version, and perhaps
the one before, I don't know, uses a different interface for some
settings. I'll let those who use it discuss it further.

I am greatful for any help with these items.
I have a new computer running Windows 8.1 and have downloaded NDVA several
times and the Windows sapi5 voyce will not showup. I also can not seem to
find it in my windows.
I have also downloaded 2 of the free voices from the NDVA site and
properly used the manage apps to install them and they will not appear in
the list of synthesizers, as a matter of fact the ESpeak does not appear
either.

Finally the menus have completely changed from just a week ago, because I
had downloaded NDVA for another person and the menus completely different?
Any thoughts? Thanks so much
