Chris, yes, I get an error message saying I need to have administrator
permission. My operating system is Windows 10. I believe I have
standard user account. I tried to change user account and typed my
name and I was told that user account already exists. If I type
administrator would it change to that?

Hi Nevzat
I would have thought you should be able to assign shortcuts as these are
personal to your account and don't affect other users, so should not require
admin priviledges. If you are using a work computer it maybe that a
corporate group policy is in effect which denies the capability but this
would be unlikely.

As Brian asked, is your user account standard or administrator? Could you
give us more information, such as operating system being used, work or home
computer, is yours the only account on the computer etc.

The process I would use to assign a shortcut key is:
Select desktop icon
Press alt+enter to open properties
Tab to the shortcut key control and press the shortcut letter alone, the
CTRL+Alt part of the command is added automatically by Windows
Tab to OK and press enter.

If you get an error after pressing OK, please give full details

Cheers

Using NVDA how do I get administrative privilege on my computer?
Your response will be greatly appreciated.

If you didn't choose to import your nvda settings into the Windows system so they would be used on the log on and other secure screens, then you'll get the Microsoft voice now as default.  I just leave mine set this way. It works just fine for me.

Hi Joshua,

Use JAWS or Narrator to do a complete uninstall of NVDA--including any remnants that aren't removed by the installer.  Then try a fresh install with a newly downloaded installer that you know was in no way corrupt from the download itself.  See if that works. Over the past 25 years that I have been using computers, I have had a number of bad installs of programs for who knows what reasons.  Using the above procedure sometimes fixes such issues.

Hi everyone,

We (believe we) have fixed the issue preventing Windows 7 users from seeing
the update to 2018.2.

If anyone is running NVDA 2018.1 on Windows 7 still (ie, you haven't
manually downloaded and installed the update), could you please advise
whether the "Check for updates" function in the help menu works now?

If you have the option set to automatically check for updates, it will only
look once a day, so likely won't pick it up until tomorrow, but if you
don't manually check for updates, it should also work next time it checks.

If anyone has any problems from now though, please let me know.

Kind regards

Quentin.

No, it goes well until the secure desktop screen appears. When I click yes, it freezes, which means that it does not update. Then I'm forced to shut the PC down to find that it is not updated when I start the machine again. The only successful way of upgrading NVDA is the manual one.

Hi,

Thank you for making your efforts.

I am able to download the update through the check for updates option,
but when it comes down to the very installation, that's to say, when I
click yes when the Secure desktop screen appears, my machine seems to
freeze. When I decided to install NVDA manually, I was successful.

I am so sorry for not being able to provide you with some log
information, but it is so because I've already installed the latest
version, and, besides, I'm not willing to downgrade NVDA for that
testing purpose. If I had more than one computer, I'd do it gladly for
all of you.

thank you for understanding me,

I was able to install here on win7. During installation I heard the
beep that usually signals a system permission request, but NVDA didn't
read the request. It was during the section of installation that gives
the constant beep, not the rising beep. I ctrl-tabbed until I got to
the correct window, I couldn't read it, all I was getting was a yes/no
and some sort of address or file location message.
Anyway, once I hit yes nvda finished installing pretty shortly.

I hope that's helpful.

Dejan,

No problem and thanks for the report that you could give! Do you have
problems on any other secure screens or when updating? Actually, I assume
not, since you would have encountered a secure screen when installing the
new version regardless (eg even downloading it manually).

Brian, thanks for your offer. We believe we've fixed it, and I tried
exactly the same as you have offered and it works now for me. If anyone
else running Windows 7 runs into any problems though, please do let me
know.

Regards

Quentin.

If i put 2018.1.1 in a portable folder, and then ran that, should that
prompt for the update and test what you want?

Subject: [nvda] Updating to 2018.2 working on Windows 7

Hi everyone,

We (believe we) have fixed the issue preventing Windows 7 users from
seeing
the update to 2018.2.

If anyone is running NVDA 2018.1 on Windows 7 still (ie, you haven't
manually downloaded and installed the update), could you please advise
whether the "Check for updates" function in the help menu works now?

If you have the option set to automatically check for updates, it will
only
look once a day, so likely won't pick it up until tomorrow, but if you
don't manually check for updates, it should also work next time it
checks.

If anyone has any problems from now though, please let me know.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Did you see my post yesterday noting that focus highlight I have here is 5.1, yet the add ons page itself is now going to version 5.0. Its like some kind of backwards time warp has set in. I do not use the two you are having issues with, but did wonder if the web site might have reverted to an old copy, or maybe part of it has?

I don't know who administers it.
Anyone care to comment? I can certainly upload the focus highlight to prove it if needed.

Here's the list of Addons I most use, hoping you guys might tell me if i'm updated for these to work with NVDA latest and future versions, as well as to take advantage of the latest Addons update scheme?

Program ManagerClip Contentes Designer version 7.1 which I know it's been updated to 8 but can't download it.Easy Table Navegator version 1.1.

Emoticons which I know it's updated to version 7 but can't get a hold of, I'm at version 6.4.

Goldwave 18.3.

Resource Monitor I?m at version 18.4.

Those are the most I use. Thanks for info on downloading. I try going onto the Get Addons with Alt+o from the Addons Manager, but there are old versions only.
