Hi.

I'm new to NVDA but am committed to developing websites that are fully accessible. I used a custom font with svg logos I uploaded to the font. I have used every tag I know about but NVDA doesn't read them. If I highlight the same area on my iPhone and ask it to speak my selection if speaks the information about the image. I'm hoping you can give me some guidance about what I need to add to the code or perhaps a perhaps a setting to change in NVDA.

I made a screen print that shows the area and the code behind it. I believe this will give you all the information you would need to help me. The screen print is at:

https://sandiego-autodetail.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/NVDA-reader-question.png

I also record my iPhone speaking the information and have loaded that short video here:

Let me know if you need any additional information. I really appreciate your help with this.

Hi

I am not from nvaccess but i had some thing similar happen to my bank
here in new zealand.

It was our TSB bank.

Where the site was accessible with lists etc they changed pretty much
all of it to graphics. The only way i could navigate the account
section was to use the letter G for graphics on the page.

This was in the accounts section where i do my banking etc. When you
also used the elements list to see if there were any links in those
graphics there were not.

They also took out the formatted headings which they had made into graphics.

So i went through there website in the account section through the
different areas there and put it into a email.

What they had to do.

I did also say i use a screen reader and am blind to do my banking also
gave them a link to the nvda screen reader to test with.

I also pointed out the places where there were graphics they needed the
alt text for nvda to see those and to bring up in the elements list same
with what used to be headings which was then turned to graphics they
were then formatted back to hadings etc with alt text etc.

Part of there reasoning to was they wanted to make it easier to use on
tablets but then they also found out things did not come up right on the
tablets etc with colors etc.

they also did a text only website but i could never remember the address
and i did not want it. I think now it the text side of it is now used
for tablets etc.

Any how they fixed the stuff i pointed out and am happy this happened a
few years back.

They done another update last year and pointed outed a few things and
they were fixed as well. for example a button that was a graphic so i
got them to make it into a button so nvda could see it.

What it may be is nvda using 1core voices on login screens, you need to set nvdas preffs to copy over to admin settings

Are you sure it's Narrator? In NVDA 2018.2, the OneCore voices are used by default in Windows 10, these are the same voices as those used in Narrator.

Well like last time, nvda 2018.1 was on 7, but if you wanted 2018.1.1 you had to get it manually, as the fix only was on windows10, though with hindsight from the experiences recently, I think this was a bad way to go on as I imagine this is why some got the .2 and some did not!
I got 1.1 here so my update worked straight off this time.
As for what is better, there are a lot fo things better for windows 7.
The registration tool the different format of preferences to name but two that now seems to work very well. Not sure what triggers the registration tool on master version though. It seems totally random here.

Re: NVDA was working fine until this morning when I tried to update

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

Yes I finally managed to get this effect you described. It seems that it throws an error at the time when no nvda is actually able to run because of an error screen, so it seems like all is quiet. I did a button on the computer quick tap to let it shut down gracefully. Then when it cam up with a dong noise as obviously nvda was not installed fully, I ran a portable copy from another folder, then I manually removed the exe files from the nvda folder in program files (x86) and reran the update file and boom all is well.
As has been said before often if there is something on the machine which screws up an install, say a file that needs to be deleted but is not from an older copy, then all sorts of random things happen.
Its seldom the end of the world. Moral, when you are happy with a working version of nvda. Create a portable version in another folder on your hard drive, go there with explorer and create a shortcut to the main exe file or use a batch file in that folder and make a shortcut to that. I published my batch file a day or so back as it makes sure any running copy of nvda shuts down before running it again from the portable version.

ready to use.

I wonder if a UAC screen came up? and was not in focus for nvda to read
out? In this case use the alt key + letter Y if it comes up.

If it is not in focus use the alt + tab key to bring it into focus.

Your anti virus could be blocking it but would if it was me reinstall
nvda again.

If you want to see what is happening and nvda is not speaking some times
also using narrator to see what is happening helps. but if nvda and
narrator are running togeher for 2 long it can drive you a little crazy
but once nvda is installed you can turn off narrator.

It just depends where the speech stops. Are you still getting sound from
the computer? or do you have 2 sound cards?

Perseverance, basically. it seems there was something odd about the download server that made them quit prematurely so I just kept trying. I've seen this before on some systems like File hippo as well for quite large files it can be a complete pain, but these are small and so a keeping on trying seemed to do it. it was the clip contents designer that was the hardest one to get.
Now if you are saying you could not even see them on the, it might well be that your browser is not refreshing its contents for some odd reason. I'm using Waterfox as I've given up on Firefox for many reasons of late on windows 7 its unreliable.

Program ManagerClip Contentes Designer version 7.1 which I know it's been updated to 8 but can't download it.Easy Table Navegator version 1.1.

Emoticons which I know it's updated to version 7 but can't get a hold of, I'm at version 6.4.

Goldwave 18.3.

Resource Monitor I?m at version 18.4.

Those are the most I use. Thanks for info on downloading. I try going onto the Get Addons with Alt+o from the Addons Manager, but there are old versions only.

Hi,

The usual way to obtain old log would be:

  1. Go to Start and type “%temp%” without quotes.
  2. Once the Temp folder is open, look for nvda-old.log.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi.  Unfortunately it happened before I updated the latest master snapshot earlier this morning, my time.  Is there any way to gain access to the previous version's log?  Cheers!

Hi,

Which version do you have and for which update branch? Also, if you do get an error, can you send a log fragment so we can see what’s up?

Hi.  I have no problems updating NVDA itself, but I do have an issue updating the Win10 app issentials.  It prompts me to update, but when I click the update button, it comes up with an "unable to update" response.  This happens off and on, so I am wondering if it is a network or server issue.  Cheers!

Did anyone else have problems with an update error on Windows 10?  I'm aware of the issue with Windows 7 users not seeing the update, but wondering if anyone else had the problem Lino experienced.  Possibly it was either a temporary glitch or something dropped out partway through (in that case I'd expect trying again later should work), but if anyone is having problems updating on Windows 10 (I've updated several machines without incident today) I'd be interested to hear from you.

Regards

Quentin.

Hi,

It’s something I came up with on the spot. I usually use food or related items as a way of commenting on things to lighten up the situation slightly.

Cheers,

Hi,

For others who didn’t catch the meaning: a burrito is a Mexican dish with meat, rice, veggies and sauce wrapped inside a tortilla. What I mean by “no meat in the burrito” was that there was no log in the initial post, which was included in a later message.

Cheers,

Joseph

Sure thing Joseph. Remind me again how to open the log file? Is it NVDA plus F1? I’ll send that INFO before I manually download it. Running current Insider build just as an FYI.

OK I tried to update to NVDA 2018.2 and got the message that said failed to update. I’m going to manually have to download off the NV Access site. Is anyone experiencing this by checking for updates via NVDA?

Re: Question Re: NVDA 2018.2, benefits for Win7 users?

Hi,
Most of the new things in 2018.2 apply to Windows 7 users, including new multi-category settings, braille improvements, removing odd characters when reviewing Clock icon and what not.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi,
I just read the "what's new" information for v2018.2 and it sounds like the benefits in the new release mainly apply to users of Win10. Is this true, or am I missing something in what I read?

For those of you using Win7 on any of your machines, do you find upgrading to this new version of NVDA is beneficial?

Thank you for your thoughts,
