I think on 7 my usual grip still exists from time to time, after a successful update the new version will not boot in till I do ESC then use the start nvda short cut right alt/n
This is due for new readers to the fact that on my particular machine, the log cannot be written to when the new version starts. its in use.
Windows does not let go quite fast enough!

I also now want a burrito (with meat)!

Did anyone else have problems with an update error on Windows 10? I'm
aware of the issue with Windows 7 users not seeing the update, but
wondering if anyone else had the problem Lino experienced. Possibly it was
either a temporary glitch or something dropped out partway through (in that
case I'd expect trying again later should work), but if anyone is having
problems updating on Windows 10 (I've updated several machines without
incident today) I'd be interested to hear from you.

Regards

Quentin.

Re: Updating to 2018.2 working on Windows 7

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

It worked for me from the start, though I always do it via a portable copy first so naturally it downloaded it in the web browser and then I had to run the file from the download. However with the new download code one assumes all should be normal next time ie I won't need to point it to the folder manually.
The idea behind this is that I can then simply install any version I fancy from the requisite portable version be it master, next rc or full release.

At the moment I'm using a master installed as a whole flotilla of updates arrived in the last few days and I decided to take a long look to make sure nothing had been broken. so far so good.

Hi everyone,

We (believe we) have fixed the issue preventing Windows 7 users from seeing
the update to 2018.2.

If anyone is running NVDA 2018.1 on Windows 7 still (ie, you haven't
manually downloaded and installed the update), could you please advise
whether the "Check for updates" function in the help menu works now?

If you have the option set to automatically check for updates, it will only
look once a day, so likely won't pick it up until tomorrow, but if you
don't manually check for updates, it should also work next time it checks.

If anyone has any problems from now though, please let me know.

Kind regards

Quentin.

I also just tried with Victor's suggestion and that didn't work. With

Re: Updating Win10 App Issentials was Re: [nvda] NV Access I've got a problem

Hi,

The usual way to obtain old log would be:

  1. Go to Start and type “%temp%” without quotes.
  2. Once the Temp folder is open, look for nvda-old.log.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi.  I have no problems updating NVDA itself, but I do have an issue updating the Win10 app issentials.  It prompts me to update, but when I click the update button, it comes up with an "unable to update" response.  This happens off and on, so I am wondering if it is a network or server issue.  Cheers!

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the notification.  And no problem how you update - the program is the same once you have updated.  Is anyone else on Windows 10 having this problem as of now?

Re: for Windows 7 users Re: [nvda] NVDA 2018.2 is now available!

That's what it look like, yes.  Which is why upgrading from NVDA 2017.4 or earlier on Windows 7 finds 2018.2, but upgrading from 2018.1 doesn't (from my limited trial on one computer).  We should be able to fix it but in the meantime, downloading the update manually should work.

Hi.  I have no problems updating NVDA itself, but I do have an issue updating the Win10 app issentials.  It prompts me to update, but when I click the update button, it comes up with an "unable to update" response.  This happens off and on, so I am wondering if it is a network or server issue.  Cheers!

Hi,

Which version do you have and for which update branch? Also, if you do get an error, can you send a log fragment so we can see what’s up?

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi.  I have no problems updating NVDA itself, but I do have an issue updating the Win10 app issentials.  It prompts me to update, but when I click the update button, it comes up with an "unable to update" response.  This happens off and on, so I am wondering if it is a network or server issue.  Cheers!

Did anyone else have problems with an update error on Windows 10?  I'm aware of the issue with Windows 7 users not seeing the update, but wondering if anyone else had the problem Lino experienced.  Possibly it was either a temporary glitch or something dropped out partway through (in that case I'd expect trying again later should work), but if anyone is having problems updating on Windows 10 (I've updated several machines without incident today) I'd be interested to hear from you.

Re: nvda 2018.2 is there for windows 7 sp1 and higher

Quentin Christensen

There is definitely an issue upgrading on Windows 7 using the upgrade check in the program itself.  Possibly related to the block we put on that routine upgrading from 2018.1 to 2018.1.1 (since the fix in 2018.1.1 only affected Windows 10).  In the meantime, updating from https://www.nvaccess.org/download/ should work fine.

And yes, 2018.2 should work fine on Windows 7, with the caveat that you need Windows 7 SP1.

Kind regards

Quentin.

only on x86 versions the x64 versions are fine.

Hi folks

Indeed, I believe there is a problem so that win7 users are not able to update over the help menu in the update section.
However you can do the upgrade from the nvaccess website and do it manually.
As I write now I am a win7 sp1 user with all update and working fine with nvda 2018.2.
But I do not understand why people here are spreading rumors that 2017.4 was the last version for win7 users.
The only thing I admit is that somewhere NVACCESS had a problem including the upgrade into the help menu i.e. that is the case for my system but please do the upgrade manually and the update process is just working fine then.
I am very satisfied with the hard work for this new version.

Hi,
A few critical questions:
* Did NV Access announce what the original poster said?
* If yes, where can we find such an announcement?
* Was there a list traffic devoted to implications of what the original poster just announced?
I'm phrasing my answers in this format in hopes that we can be better informed in the future.

The System Requirements section of the NVDA 2018.2 User Guide would say which versions of Windows are supported, so yes, please consult that, before posting version information to this group.

Hi,
This message is for Windows 7 users.

You will not receive NVDA 2018.2
2017.4 is the last version you'll get.
I'd highly suggest upgrading to Windows 10.

Re: Chinese IME and Candidate lists?

Hi,
If you are choosing English as a default UI language In NVDA. Maybe,
the following steps could resoulve this "candidate reporting" issue.
1. NVDA menu, Preferences, general settings.
2. Press end, then press upArrow to choose language Chinese
Traditional Taiwan (zh_TW).
3. Press enter to restart NVDA.
(In this case, languages zh_CN, zh_HK also work.)

Thanks.

Hi. Not sure if anyone can help with this, but I am trying to use the
Chinese microsoft IME to write. However, when I am entering the
composition string, I am unable to get candidates read out loud.
Arrowing simply reads back the string using the phonetically pinyin
letters, and when I press space I can tell that I have selected a
different candidate for the composition string but can't figure that
out until after the text is already entered. Is this a problem with my
NVDA? Or the ime itself? Trying to write in Chinese.. but it's a total
shot in the dark when I have to press space and just accept whatever
it gives me. lol
