Re: NVDA And Avast Free Anti Virus

Then you can leave selfprotection off and use NVDA with the program.  But JAWS is available as  a demo, a point that I addressed.  and I would expect JAWS to work well in general on machines.

If you turn off self-protection, malware designed to attack antivirus programs will have a much easier time attacking Avast and either shutting it off or degrading its performance.

Hi,

Yes, the very registration of the product was a nightmare for me, too. I
did it, but, I do not know how. As for semi-accessibility, you're
supposed to turn the self-defence off, although Avast does not recommend
the end user to. Why am I saying semi-accessibility? Because Avast has
never been fully accessible as far as screen readers (Jaws and NVDA) are

[Reason: Stupid dictation, just correcting a speako.]

what happens if you use the -r flag when issuing the nvda command from the Run dialog? If it does restart can you then verify the synth has been changed? Also, paste your log privately to one of the nvda Developers.

Re: Automatically start NVDA after I log on to Windows checkbox unable to be checked

Gene New Zealand <hurrikennyandopo@...>

Hi Thomas

I know on a portable version the start nvda when windows does check box will not be there on a portable version but is on a installed version.

Would the person maybe only have installed the portable version and not the installer version?

I am guessing the 2 check boxes under it would not show up either on a portable version of nvda.

I have installed nvda from a portable version but the installer version and those options are there.

Below is from the user manual.

3.1. Portable and Temporary Copy Restrictions
Apart from the inability to automatically start during and/or after log-on, the portable and temporary copies of NVDA also have the following restrictions:
• The inability to interact with applications running with administrative privileges, unless of course NVDA itself has been run also with these privileges (not recommended).
• The inability to read User Account Control (UAC) screens when trying to start an application with administrative privileges.
• Windows 8 and later: the inability to support input from a touchscreen.
• Windows 8 and later: the inability to provide features such as browse mode and speaking of typed characters in Windows Store apps.
• Windows 8 and later: audio ducking is not supported.

By the way check under c: drive then program files x86 and then see if there is a folder called nvda if not i am guessing they might of just made a folder on the c: drive and done a shortcut to it like some do.

 Hello all,

The three options pertaining to automatically starting NVDA appear on screen, they do not appear disabled, but they cannot be selected either in the welcome dialog or in the general preferences. This is happening on a remote computer, so I didn't do the installation myself. Is there a scenario where NVDA was installed as a portable copy or run directly from the installer file which can cause these options to be present but unusable? I did a brief search of reported issues, but I don't see anything that covers this although I could I swear I remember discussion about it some months or years ago.

For what its worth this is about installing NVDA 2018.1.1 on Windows 10.

Thank you for any assistance,

I misunderstood the original message. I thought I was suppose to find this Golden Cursor in the nvda settings categories list, and that 3.0 would be downloadable that way. But I  didn't have 3.0 yet, so I had to go into the tools, ad-ons and get it to update, and now Golden Cursor shows up in the categories listing. Windows 10 app essentials does not, and I did check and I do have the latest version with the suffix A that you mentioned in another message.

·        Golden Cursor 3.0: same as above but the category to look for is “Golden Cursor”.

·        Windows 10 App Essentials: version 18.06 stable is now available to everyone. For those using 18.05.3, you’ll have until June 20, 2018 to update to 18.06, by which time the temporary update channel will be gone along with release of 18.06.1.

Also, for those using Windows 10 App Essentials development snapshots: regular and pilot builds are now united. This means, going forward, anyone wishing to use development snapshots MUST be running NVDA 2018.2 stable or later. Also, you’ll need to be running Windows 10 Version 1709 (build 16299) or later in order to receive future add-on builds.

Seconded; I think this a nice package, though I haven’t used the spreadsheet or database components extensively. Now, one thing to keep in mind though, is that while it can open most newer MS-type documents, it cannot save in the recent MS Office formats. You can save in the older MS formats, which newer versions of mS Office can still handle.

Before downloading the pic you must choose to see it in a full size. You'll be able to find it tabing in the page that opens with the comments and reactions about the post.
So, after you're in full size pic screen, you should be able to save it as a pic on itself.

Hi Joseph,

Not quite sure, but the same problem maybe occurs with the braille settings.

[Reason: Stupid dictation, just correcting a speako.]

what happens if you use the -r flag when issuing the nvda command from the Run dialog? If it does restart can you then verify the synth has been changed? Also, paste your log privately to one of the nvda Developers.

Hi,

1. Open the speech settings from the Settings dialog.

2.Try to change synthesizer (let's say from Espeak to Onecore, to
take examples which very different settings list).

3. Press the OK button. An error sound is heard and the speech dialog
is not refresh to reflect settings of the new selected synth, though
the active synth is actually changed.

Quentin,

If you could identify the character that does not get recognized as a space, copy it and do a global search and replace, might that work?

Subject: [nvda] PDF file missing spaces

Hi everyone,

I know I've come across this before but I just can't recall the solution.  I've got a PDF file which when I read it, parts of it read with no spaces between words (ditto copying the text out or saving to a text file).

It is something to do with how Adobe Reader interprets the spaces in files created with certain other products, but what I can't remember, is how do I fix it, please?

Regards

Quentin.

If it's an IMAP or Microsoft Exchange account, you can probably just delete
your *.ost files. Mine are found in the user profile folder, under
AppData\local\Microsoft\Outlook. You need to close Outlook before deleting
the files.

When you start Outlook again, it will retrieve the messages from the server
and recreate those files.

I'll call the Microsoft disability line tomorrow and see what they say. It
very well could be a corruption in the indexing.

Take the machine back to when you saw them last? However I'm not optimistic.

I seem to remember this sort of thing happening in older Outlooks back when
I tried to use it.
Its normally some corruption in the indexing in Outlook. Maybe there is an
answer on the Microsoft Office forum?

Hi, everyone,

I don't know what happened to some of my messages that I had from
other lists that I'm on. They just suddenly disappeared. I know I
didn't delete them. I tried looking in the junk folder but they're not
there. Is there something else I can do?

Thanks for your help in advance.
