If this is just a new version then go back to the old one and suspend updates. I'm thinking oof doing this with dropbox at the moment.

It will return though. its something to do with the way Firefox is built I think. You will need to change after August when 52 will no longer get updates, and Water still allows old add ons at the moment and imports them all and the other firefox data fine.

Yes Firefox of all sorts always does this on my windows 7 machines, so I'm surprised you only just got it. if you are running 64 bit windows I use waterfox now as this seems not to suffer from this. At some point in the past, Firefox did something that momentarily drove up processor core usage when you go to a new page or launch it in the first instance. this seems to randomly create a situation for nvda where it sees no change straight away. often you will find that merely opening a menu and closing it then presents you with the new content. in64bit Waterfox this seems never to happen.
It is supposedly the same code as Firefox before Quantum so why its so much better could be because its only available in a 64 bit version and hence the code is better optimised for multi processors. That is just a guess.

Re: For chrome users.

That is a little odd. It may be a tooltip balloon or what we used to call toast, and you can turn off how these work in on of the nvda pref settings. I've noticed Dropbox has started to do this sort of thing as well. I could be doing a say all in a large text file and all of a sudden it will intersperse. Fred bloggs has updated file wlly.com on your dropbox.

I really do not want to hear this sort of thing if I'm not even in the folder unless I want to, but since the prefs in dropbox and that pesky new alert screen seem not to work with nvda, it is rather irritating that these messages do where a you can see the folder or not!
I suspect they are coming from a tray icon. On the other hand it might just be an undocumented feature, as software writers like to term such things.

Re: facebook ??

Hi, I'm back.
Well, first of all I need to know some things, such as which browser are you using when you tried to save the pic.
But assuming you're using Firefox, that's what I use...
Before downloading the pic you must choose to see it in a full size. You'll be able to find it tabing in the page that opens with the comments and reactions about the post.
So, after you're in full size pic screen, you should be able to save it as a pic on itself.

Hi, Marilyn,

I think you should be able to go to the "check for updates" and you'll find out if you canupdate your version of NVDA. If not, you'll have to do it through the nv access site which is nvaccess.org.

To find out what version of NVDA you're running, hit the insert key and N to go to the menu. Then arrow down to the help menu and open it with the right arrow. Arrow down to "about" and hit enter on it. You'll hear whart version you're running.

Hope this helps.

That's what it look like, yes.  Which is why upgrading from NVDA 2017.4 or earlier on Windows 7 finds 2018.2, but upgrading from 2018.1 doesn't (from my limited trial on one computer).  We should be able to fix it but in the meantime, downloading the update manually should work.

Re: QA Testing

Hi,

The snapshots download page is:

https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/snapshots/

As you may know by now, you need a GitHub account to report and comment on issues. The shortcut page for creating new issues is:

https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/new

Since you said you’re new to NVDA, I recommend going through resources such as user guide, tutorial videos and what not so you can become familiar with how the screen reader works, then consider using master snapshots to test new features. This is so that you can be prepared as to what to expect instead of going through difficulty learning NVDA and testing new things at the same time.

Cheers,

Joseph

The best place to start would be how early would you like to see features come to life. Depending on how adventurous you are, you can choose from the following NVDA development snapshot branches:

  • Next branch snapshots: alpha-level code, so certain things may not work as expected in the beginning.
  • Master snapshots: live beta, includes features that could make the cut for the next stable version.

Hello,
Anyone using WhatsApp Web Desktop Client?
I'm wondering 'cause about 2 days ago, I had an update and it became just horrible for using.
NVDA says "clickable" all time, whatever I try to do. Of course I can still use it but this way it gets too more slow.
So, some of you with this problem? Any sugestion about it?

Thanks in advance

Marcio

Seems to have been remedied after firefox add on updates and a restart.

Anyone else have this issue with firefox 52ESR and NVDA 2018.2? I always have to manually refresh using nvda+f5. so it definitely isn't a browser issue.
I've been away from the computer for a week and just updated. apologies if this has already been covered.
