Re: Few questions regarding the Place Markers add-on
Tony Malykh
In the absence of other replies, let me tell you about my add-on BrowserNav. One of the features is what I called browser marks. You can configure a regular expression to match any words that you want to be able to find on web pages and jump to them quickly using J or Shift+J command. I was thinking of Jaws bookmarks when I designed this feature. Unlike Jaws it doesn't discriminate on the domain name, that is the whole regexp is being applied to all web pages. But it doesn't seem to cause problems for me. So to summarize, it's not exactly what you're looking for , but close enough, so might want to give it a try. https://github.com/mltony/nvda-browser-nav/ HTH --Tony

Hi, There are replacements such as Audio Themes. Also, the NVDA pull request associated with it (for NVDA issue 2559), while useful, wasn’t really ready. Besides, it has become clear to me that in order to prepare for the next stage in my life (graduate school), I need to let go of NVDA, and letting go of add-ons that are effectively end of life is just one stage of this process (I thought about this decision for a long time). I'm glad you have a sense of what you should do and not do and don't overburden yourself, given the time and energy you have and various demands on both. Many people take on more than they should and burn out or don't do anything well. Knowing how to pace yourself and aportion your time and leaving some time just for yourself to do with as you wish are very important and I'm glad to see that you look out for yourself rather than let a sense of unreasonable obligation work against you.

NVDA and OPENVPN?
Brian Buhrow
hello. I'm wondering if someone on this list can help me understand
what I'm doing wrong with OpenVPN. Here is a description of the trouble I'm having. I've tried installing Openvpn-2.4.4 or OpenVPN-2.5Beta, Windows 64-bit version on my Windows 10 laptop. The installation appears to go fine, but when I try to run openvpn-gui, I'm told the application is already running and I should go to my task manager and right click on the red VPN icon. If I go to the system tray and find OpenVPN in the list of tasks, then right click by using NVDA + right bracket, it brings up the context menu for the application I was using before I went to the system tray. If I try to open the context menu by pressing control + shift+ F10, I get a menu, but it appears to be one that lets me try to run OpenVPN as administrator, or in compatiblity mode with older versions of Windows, or to create a desktop shortcut. If I choose the open option from the menu, I get the same "OpenVPN-gui is already running" message. If I look at the OpenVPN process in the task manager, Control + Shift + Escape, I see the process, but I don't know how to bring it to the foreground. I see messages on this list that say folks got it working, but when I try to follow their instructions, I run into the issues described above. Can someone enlighten me as to what I'm doing wrong? -thanks -Brian

Few questions regarding the Place Markers add-on
Amir
Folks, having used the Place Markers feature in JAWS for a long time, I'd like to know if the Place Markers add-on for NVDA can provide an equal experience. Specifically:
1. Is it possible to create a place marker for a page and expect it to work on all pages belonging to that domain? For instance, I download a lot of podcasts and audio files from npr.org. With JAWS I've created a place marker for the Download link on one page and, via a check box, have set it up in a way that it works on all pages belonging to npr.org. 2. Crucially, can place markers be anchored to one or more words on a page so that they can always move us to the proper/expected location regardless of any modifications on that page? Again JAWS can do it by asking for a word or phrase to which a place marker should be anchored. Like the first one, this is also optional. Best, Amir
