Re: how can i change voice dictionary in nvda to espeak not announce punctuation?

Gene

To be sure the punctuation matches what you are trying to do, try selecting and copying it to the clipboard when you see it in a document.  Then try pasting it into the speech dictionary.  While there may be another reason you are being unsuccessful, my guess is that the problem is that what you are typing is different from what is in the document in some way.  This procedure should eliminate any possible difference.  Try copying and pasting instead of typing for the punctuation marks you are unsuccessul with.

sometimes the same symbol can have different ways to be represented in
Unicode since even though the graphic looks the same there are different
meanings for the symbol. A good example of this is that the dash and the
minus sign in Latin alphabets usually look identical, but there is a
different UNICODE representation. Another place this happens is accented
characters, where often these can be represented as two characters in one
location or as one character.

In any case, it would be good to try and provide the details of the issues
to NVDA developers so that all folks using the symbols you are having issues
with can have the problems resolved. Also, in at least Latin based
languages, some punctuation has significantly different interpretation when
in the middle of a word or number and NVDA can support these
differentiations.

Hello,

I know very little about the Arabic or Farsi languages. I assume the punctuation you are looking at is not Latin based? Please stop telling people what messages are appropriate.  the list allows a certain amount of off topic traffic and has since I've been a member for years.  List owners and moderators on lists in general don't want members who aren't moderators, sending moderation messages to the list.  It isn't specific to this list, but a general expectation.  If you want to suggest that the person might get better answers on another list, that's one thing.  But discussing appropriateness of messages and saying that the list is about NVDA is moderating.

Hi, Anthony,

This question would be more appropriate for a list like the windows 10 list. This list is for NVDA.

This is off topic for this list. The list if you read the headers is to
discussed nvda not computers in general. I have a list for that although I'm
the only member for now, visit tffppodcast.com/groups for more info. There
you will find all the groups and sub groups that you can be a part of.

Take care and hope that helps a bit.

If discussion of the illegal add on continues, I'll lock the topic.  I don't want to do that, but this discussion isn't allowed on list.

I realize that some people may respond to messages about the Dectalk add on before they see my first message and if I block the topic, it won't be for punative reasons.  it will be to stop further improper discussion in the thread.

Hi can you please pass along where to get this dektalk add on.

I found I page using google but it has two different versions on it so I would like to get the correct one.

So if you could provide that it would be A big help.

Synthesizers are all very preferencial.  I really like the espeak american varients though that makes me a bit of an oddball.  If you only want english language support the dektalk access add-on is outrageously good.  Much better than the phonix distrobution and in my experience, it's extremely fast and stable.  Pronounciation is good.  Inflection is fine especially if you used dektalk a lot and liked it.  If not, inflection does some funny things that may take getting used to.

Anyhow, google it up and see if you like it.  I think it's on a third party add-on site.

Also, on this page, the Eloquence add on that offers other voices as well is discussed.  There is a SAPI five Eloquence available for sale which is far superior, if you are interested in Eloquence.  Others can tell you more about it if you are interested.  And a lot of voices available for purchase have demos.

I'll add that some people use a responsive voice for work, such as word processing and other tasks, but use one of the newer more natural voices for listening, such as when reading a book.

Hi,

Which version of Skype are you referring to – the one that comes with Windows 10 or the new desktop version (8.x)?

Windows 10 doesn’t come with skype preinstalled does it? I have business skype as I have my office 365 subscription but I’m not sure if I can use that for a normal skype account?

You can see all officially approved NVDA add ons on this page:

You may find and use unapproved add ons but they may not work properly or they may be malicious.  Those that are officially approved are reviewed by members of the NVDA community and are known to be safe and are expected to work properly.

The page I sent a link for has a search field and, below the introductory text, are links to all officially approved add ons.  If you follow a link, you will get more information about the add on and a download link.

there is a Winamp add on, but you may or not care about the extra functionality it provides.  I mentioned that one because you mentioned Winamp.  You may find add ons for other programs you mentioned, I never checked.

I’m just wondering about any good addons that might be useful. What do people favour using? I use programmes like iTunes and winamp and skype. I haven’t yet downloaded skype onto my new machine as I’m told it’s not that accessible. Would like more information on this.

adding space for replacement in voice dictionary sometimes resolves

as i said before,
i use nvda 2016.4 forever.
but it does not matter, i have this issue since nvda 2016.2 (which
changed to espeak ng).
i know that i should find speech dictionaries and find voice dictionary.
then press enter on add button and in the pattern type my punctuation
which i dont want to hear in sayAll,
then what exactly should i type in replacement that nvda never does
not announce this punctuation at all when using sayAll and i hear it
only when i need editing documents by navigating letter by letter?

hello every one.
when espeak became espeak ng, it had many improvements and goodnesses

but it faced some problems as well.
espeak sometimes announce some punctuations like kama in persian and
one other more that i dont know there spelling in english.
i set punctuation none, but sometimes espeak does not respect my
choice and announce some punctuation.
hearing punctuations is very annoying for me and i dont want to nvda

but the problem occures even in sayAll, that i dont need editing and i
only want to study books and articles.
i sincerely appreciate your help and pray for you, God bless you all!

I find myself using the Review Cursor a lot to navigate Windows and dialog boxes that require me to click a button ([Tab] key doesn't work on them.)

Is there any option in NVDA 2018.1.1 to have the Mouse pointer automatically follow the Review Cursor as I'm navigating the screen?

This way I don't have to keep routing mouse pointer to Review cursor, before left/right clicking.

Anyhow, google it up and see if you like it.  I think it's on a third party add-on site.
