Big problems with Microsoft word 365

Cristina Ebetiuc

Good day eveybody!

Does someone from you have the following Problem as well?

Can’t assighn heading. When Pressing alt+1 or going into the style to Chose the headings NVDA and Word Freeze. I have to Restart NVDA and then I also have to Restart word. The same happens also when I move through tables with tab or shift plus tab. When I want to turn the UIa-automation for Word  both programs freze again and after restarting the box for the UIa-automation is still checked. I can’t send loggs unfortunately because it frezes and I have to Restart it gain. Restarting does not work from the first time I have to wait aproximately  30 seconds. NVDA also freezes when I move between the lines in word, too. But this happens for a very short time.

I am Looking foreward to receiving your feetback!

I just purchased the eloquence/vocalizzer add-on for NVDA yesterday.

I’ve seen that there a few versions of the add-on, including the sapi voices, but I am only familiar with the code factory add-on.

Hi listers:

I see there are at least 2 different companies selling the Vocalizer voices for NVDA, and I wonder if there is any difference between the options out there.  For example, there are voices from Tiflotecnia, or CodeFactory.  They do the same thing, but, the actual binaries are totally different.  Also, the CodeFactory option seems to also include eloquence.

Are there advantages in getting CodeFactory voices, vs. those from Tiflotecnia?

Thanks!

Hi,

As i’ve said, the only advantage is that codefactory updates the voices and driver regularly.

Hi,

The compact voices are not included with codefactory addon, because of the license reasons.

The tiflotecnia package uses much older vocalizer libraries and voices, this there are no new languages, and old errors in voices are there.

I can only comment on the Vocalizer voices from Code Factory as those are the ones I went with. I did this due to the fact that, as you said, you also receive Eloquence along with the package so you get a lot more bang for your buck, so to speak. I don’t think that the actual compact versions are included with Code Factory’s package but this does not bother me.

Announcement: several of my add-ons will require NVDA 2020.4 starting in March 2021

Hi all,

Hope you are staying safe and healthy (and for those affected by winter storms, please stay warm).

Normally I make add-on compatibility announcements not this often, but it appears it’s time to make another NVDA version compatibility announcement:

NVDA 2020.4 introduced several internal changes that will cause one or more of my add-ons to not work properly under some circumstances, most notably important parts of StationPlaylist add-on. I took steps to mitigate this, and am keeping a very close eye on future NVDA releases, especially 2021.1 as it will be a backwards incompatible release (more on that once 2021.1 beta 1 is released). Coupled with other features in 2020.4 that will benefit my add-ons, I hereby declare that:

Starting from March 2021 add-on releases, NVDA 2020.4 will be required. It won’t be applied to all add-ons right away – this change will be gradual.

The following add-ons are affected:

  • Add-on Updater: in keeping with add-on support policy (requiring latest stable version of NVDA), Add-on Updater 21.03 will require NVDA 2020.4.
  • Resource Monitor: the way NVDA announces resource summary copy message is changing to align with NVDA 2020.4. This change will be introduced in version 21.04 (April).
  • StationPlaylist: due to critical issues discovered while fetching column data for tracks and encoders support as a result of changes in NVDA 2020.4, version 21.04 (April) will require NVDA 2020.4 to reduce maintenance burden.

Although not part of this, Windows 10 App Essentials will eventually require NVDA 2020.4, but that won’t happen until NVDA 2021.1 is released. What will happen though is that development versions of this add-on will require NVDA 2020.4 in March.

As for NVDA 2021.1 and my add-ons, suffice to say that I’m working on compatibility and you won’t have to switch to 2021.1 for a while (based on lessons from 2019-2020, although the compatibility scale isn’t quite massive, I figured at least one community add-on won’t be ready in time for 2021.1 release, so I won’t be as aggressive in asking you all to use the next version of NVDA in order to use my add-ons). Details will be announced when 2021.1 beta 1 is released.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi all,
Does anyone use tenforums.com with NVDA? If so, is there any
possibility of fixing how NVDA handles the editor on that site? When I
type a reply, I can't simply tab to the submit button, I have to
toggle browse and focus mode a couple of times, then navigate to the
top button of the editor in order to show the post button, which isn't
intuitive at all.

problem with the group site, can't seem to see reply to sender on all messages

Bob Cavanaugh <cavbob1993@...>

Well, this is kind of annoying. As Brian has asked that we take the
discussion of browse dialogs off this list, I was going to reply to
Patrick privately asking for steps on how he turns grouping off in
browse dialogs, as I see no way to do it, but I couldn't find the
reply to sender link on his message. Looking over some of the other
messages, I didn't see it on all messages either. It was only on
certain messages. I have two requests:
1. Could Brian or the group owner look into this? I thought the reply
to sender link was supposed to be at the bottom of every email, but it
appears it isn't.
2. Could Patrick or anyone else who has successfully turned off
grouping in browse dialogs write me privately with the steps on how to
do this? I've been able to turn it off in main file explorer, though
it somehow got turned on again today and I had to Google how to turn
it off again, but it still won't turn off in the browse dialogs. Also
FYI, this isn't a new problem for me, I've actually been putting up
with it for about 15 months, just now getting around to fixing it.
Thanks,
Bob

I also bought the Code Factory voices.  I had never heard of the other company until after I purchased the Code Factory ones.  Now I'm trying to figure out how to update them.

Good luck in you voices purchase.

Re: Browse Dialogs with NVDA

And, by the way, this topic ceased to be about NVDA many, many posts ago.  And my last one had nothing to do with NVDA.  Virtually everything discussed is about Windows and only Windows.

Thus, I am asking that further conversation, if wanted about this topic be moved either to the Chat Subgroup, or the Windows 10 for Screen Reader User's Group:

No one, least of all me, has claimed that Microsoft did not introduce the grouping by date in Downloads as part of a cumulative update (if memory serves).  It absolutely did, and many have posted the easy, and specific instructions for undoing that in this very venue.

It does not explain, in any way, why this would show up in a browse dialog when the folder being browsed is not set with grouping on.

I'm not attempting to claim that it's not happening, either, but it is absolutely an abberation if it is.  The longer this topic has gone on, the more I believe that the following should be tried, in order.  If SFC/DISM fixes it, then stop.

Hi,

I've had the problem several times, I just never use grouping in explorer, but after several windows updates the download folder got brouped by date both in explorer and browse dialogs, so i had to reset it to none every time.
Seems the update from 1909 to 20h2 didn't do it, though, or i'm so used to it i corrected and forgot already.

Where in context menu is this? The logical place would be in
properties, but I see nothing in there related to grouping.

Hello,

Actually, Brian, I think you are wrong. The views set in the "Browse"
dialogs seam to be independent from the ones set in Windows Explorer
windows, strange as it may be as a behavior.

I went in both my personal "Downloads" folder (the one in my user's personal
folder) and the one in "This PC" and disabled the grouping by date and set
the sorting to be by name instead of by day (it was set so by me a long time
ago for the folder in "This PC", but it was not for the one in my personal
folder). Now it is set to no grouping and sorting by name for both places,
but when I invoked a "Browse" dialog from a program (I tried in Audacity,
Balabolka and Notepad++) and navigated to the "Downloads" folder, the view
in both "Downloads" folders was set to grouping and sorting by date.

To disable the grouping and sorting by date in both "Downloads" folders for
the "Browse" dialogs, the user has to invoke such a dialog from a program,
navigate to the two folders, invoke the context menu for the folder (with
nothing selected) and do it from there as it is done for the standard
Windows Explorer windows. The setting is saved and applied for each "Browse"
dialog, no matter from which program is invoked.

Hope this helps.

Bob,

By the way, those are called "browse dialogs." You use 'em in
any program when you're trying to either open a file, or save it (or save
it as, the last two depend on whether it's ever been saved and whether
you're changing the name).

That being said, unless you intentionally changed something
at some point, no browse dialog should open a folder with a view other
than what it's set to under Windows 10. Double check that you do indeed
have Group by turned off, and that the primary sort on the Downloads

I have just gone through every button on the Browse Dialog
used for opening a file, including those you access once you land on the
Organize button and right arrowing from there, and I can find absolutely
nothing that allows you to turn on grouping (or remove it) in the Browse
Dialog.

And, as you've now been told twice, they are.  The reason you're browsing is irrelevant as far as the overarching term, browse dialog goes.  There's nothing wrong with saying Open Dialog, Save Dialog, or Save As dialog (among a number of potential others), as that tells you exactly what's being done.  But all of those are, as a class, browse dialogs, because you're either browsing for a file to open/upload if it already exists, or a folder for a save if the file is new (where you give it a name, too), or a save as if you wish to save something that already exists with a different name in either the same folder or other folder.

I actually most often use the more specific term when I know exactly what's being done, but when talking about the class, it's browse dialog.

I just donated for the latest 2004 version. All went well, and I got a message back from PayPal saying I had made the donation. Only thing is I didn't receive any message from NV Access itself. I used to get at least one short thank you message. I don't know if these are automated and triggered by the receipt of the donation or just how they work. Just wondering.  Bottom line is they did receive my donation and the new NVDA is working fine so far.

Actually I don't think it is called a browse dialogue. I was told it is
called the "open with" dialogue. And my iMap didn't download any
messages as of yet, only got these just now.

There is:  a browse dialog.   And I mentioned this multiple posts
ago.  Please read through ALL messages in a topic and in this group
before replying to any one.
