Re: How to Fix Sluggish Responsiveness When Arrowing Through a Word Document

Have you tried running the com registration fixing tool in NVDA tools?
I hadn't but did so after reading your suggestion. It's possible that I'm noticing a slight amount of improvement since doing so and so I appreciate the advice.

After comparing NVDA's performance in Word as well as with JAWS 2020 I will say that JAWS also exhibits a slight slow-down in responsiveness on my machine, as well, compared to how it handles Wordpad. The slowdown is not as annoying as it is with NVDA but even with JAWS there is still a difference. Therefore, this is not really an NVDA issue but JAWS is just handling it a bit better. I may just have to accept that this may be a limitation of my current machine and may only be able to really solve for it by getting a computer with more high end or at least more modern specs.

Yep. I've seen this before, saw it when I was copying a 37 gig folder somewhere a few weeks ago. I had to alt tab away from the area. Then it was gone.

Have you tried NVDA key f before and after activating the link or whatever the control is?  You may hear a different color, though I don't know if such changes are properly available when in browse mode.  You may want to compare before and after activation with browse mode on and off, switching settings before and after activation so you get responses in both settings for before and after.

This problem has been bugging me for a while, so I've decided to ask
much smarter people here on the list about it.

Decided to tinker with my old TP-Link Archer C3150 router for I'm
looking to replace my current Verizon Quantum Gateway Router.

In the Archer C3150 admin area the various settings are toggled on/off
by clicking what seems to be a non standard HTML link. Not sure if it is
created with Java Script or DHTML. The problem is that I have no verbal
confirmation from NVDA if the font has changed color, face type or anything.

Got visual assistance and I'm told the link turns "Green" when toggled
on, and "Red" when toggled off.

Is there any add-on or NVDA keyboard shortcut available that would allow
me to access all font attributes of a letter the mouse pointer or
Browser cursor is focused on?

The background/foreground color, type, size etc? There has too be a way
for me to get some sort of feedback on these links from NVDA.

Having the "Clickable" option under Document Formatting in NVDA
preferences enabled is very helpful. If I didn't have that turned on, I
wouldn't even know the text associated with some of these options is a
link at all.

I also encountered similar situations in the Tidal, Spotify and MyMedia
(Alexa skill) apps. Specifically when accessing the settings page for
modifying important options.

Any recommendations on what I can do when trying to navigate pages
containing these new fangled visually esthetic links?

I'm using NVDA 2020.1 by the way under Windows 10 2004.

Shaun, for the love of all that's holy, STOP MAKING ASSERTIONS THAT ARE NOT TRUE.  There are scads of multi-function machines under $100 that have OCR as part of their utilities, and I've used at least three of them, one right next to me now.

It is almost impossible to find any scanner these days, whether alone or as part of a multi-function, that does not come with a utility that includes OCR.  It's as common as dirt.

I had a Canon that cost me $25 about 10 years ago that could do OCR, and do it well.

Hi Group,\

This is happening in Windows 10, but I think I recall it going way back to XP.  When you do the following:
1.  Open Windows Explorer
2.  Highlight a file or folder.
3.  Use control + X or Control + C to cut or copy the file or folder.
4.  Move to another folder or drive and press control + V to paste the file or folder to a new location.
5.  The result is that more often times than not, you get a ghost window that has a title of something like 87%, 94% or 100%.
6.  This ghost window goes away when you alt + tab away and then back to the new location.

Does anyone else experience this and is there a remedy?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Ghost Windows When Copying and Pasting or cutting and pasting in Windows Explorer In Windows 10

Ron,

All I can tell you is that I have never encountered what you describe in my entire time working with Windows, prior to and with screen readers.  I have absolutely no idea what is going on, and I can't believe "it's a fluke" if you've had this going on that long.  That being said, that cries, "User action of some kind," having created the situation.  The question is, what?  Let's hope someone else has encountered it and knows the solution.

The only window I've ever encountered during a copy or paste after cut is the status window giving progress, and that disappears on its own.  You aren't using something like Classic Shell or similar, are you?  Those utilities have settings that might possibly be configured such that this situation could occur.

Hello!

You should have an application named ControlCenter4.

The first you open it, set it to Advanced.

In that application, you have firstly, after the combobox with the model name, a group of buttons:

Digitalization, PCCopy and Photo.

Those buttons will define what you see in the app when you keep tabbing...

Assuming you press Digitalization button, you will have options for Images, OCR (never worked here...), E-mail and File.

To create a file on your PC, press Enter on File.

If you press Enter again, the scan starts with default settings, and your PDF document will be placed on the following folder, opened automatically:

C:\Users\User\Images\ControlCenter4\Scan

Best regards,

Nothing inherently evil about comparisons is there? If someone else
can do it, this means it can be done, which in itself is a valuable

The point that I'm making is that using Word on this slower machine does not give me a slow experience on a global level.

Hi Luke,

Well I have had it happen for years.  And no, no, no, did you all hear me, I said no!!!.  These windows never go away until I alt + tab away and back--regardless of how long the file has been copied. For experimental purposes, I did a small file transfer--about 5 KB in size and left the ghost window there over night. When I came back in the morning, the window was still there.

Now maybe it's something I am doing with respect to the copy and paste issue. Since almost no one else is experiencing this and I have been experiencing this on several systems over a decade or so, here is what I do to create the issue.

1.  Highlight a file in Windows Explorer.
2.  Press the hotkeys control + X or control + C to cut or copy to clipboard.
3.  Move to a new locoation on the system or on an external drive.
4.  use the hotkey control + V to paste the file.
5. No longer how long I wait, the ghost window stays there until I alt + tab away from the ghost window and then back. The window is then gone until the next time I copy or cut a file.
