I've never checked for a web page.  I got the impression from discussion here that there isn't an independent web page but I don't know.  If there isn't, I'll send you the file.  But can you accept attachments or do you need to get it in some other way such as a Drop box linkk?

If you don't have NVDA installed, I can send the list of shortcut keys to you.  The quick reference is a web page and I should be able to send you an html copy, if that would make the formatting better, rather than a text copy.  Probably, if you use combinations such as alt shift and a letter, you shouldn't duplicate any NVDA commands.  I haven't looked at the laptop commands, but I've never heard any alt shift commands discussed when laptop commands are discussed here, nor have I seen any in my very slight looking.

In my case I don't think that would work. I have to  hold down f7 to bring up the list of tasks for  my custom computer. I think I did not get narrator to start and I had to have aira guide me through the install. That's fine,

Issue installing latest Windows 10 update

ely.r@...

Repeatedly, I have tried doing the most recent Windows 10 update. Get to the step where the installer asks me to uninstall this program as it cannot. The program at fault is, Window eyes 9.1. It is not listed as an installed program in Programs and Features, “add or remove”. I have searched the entire computer for Window Eyes and GW Micro remains and find nothing.

Is it possible that the installer is finding a remaining entry in the registry?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated,

Thanks,

Re: Duplicate messages in my thunderbird email client

tonea.ctr.morrow@...

Maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see a follow-up on this. Bear with me, please.

I have a personal email address for non-work stuff. My cell phone is set to check with Google and show me anything I haven’t read. I can delete from my cell phone, but it only effects my phone. However, I use my home computer to pop in and it downloads the messages and them deletes them from the google server. Thus, they can no longer be seen by my phone’s email reader.

I’m wondering if your pop settings are not deleting from the server. Thus, you connect and get messages 1-5, and then five minutes later you get them again because they are still on the server.

It was just a thought…I’m no expert.

If you can’t find the help you need by the end of the week, let me know privately and I will personally find out by going and talking to an expert I do know.

Not come across that before. The only time I did was when the server was slow in acknowledging that a message has been downloaded, but that is quite rare.

Might be worth looking at the headers and seeing what is different.

Again, I don’t have the software and am in the process of getting it approved for my computer. In order to share the shortcut key list with my entire department, I will need to be pointed to where the list is maintained outside the software or I will need someone to send me a copy. Please remember, the goal of the list is to get sighted people who don’t have NVDA to not use your keyboard shortcuts for their own software, thus reserving those keystrokes for NVDA users.

Thanks!

Re: New custom NVDA Add-on. Who ask to?

Didier Colle

Dear Danielle,

Thanks for the info.

From a programming point of view it is a pity only a series of backspaces is sent....

Given the fact we are speaking about steno, and steno is all about speed, I have following question to you:

would it be acceptable to you that individual letters are completely spoken out when they are deleted? Not very ideal from a speed perscpective (user experience), but from a programming point of view perhaps a reliable solution could be worked out.

Otherwise, I guess we would need a mechanism to detect when the sequence of generated backspaces is over (and not waiting for the next key stroke): my first simplistic idea would be using a hold-off timer going off, but that is probably not a very reliable solution. (if I remember well from your video with steno you do 300 wpm or 5 words per sec or 200 millisec per word, counting 3 or 4 syllables per word means max 50 millisec per syllable or keystroke... that is pretty tight).

An alternative would be to create a plover plugin to be plugged in into nvda, that creates a backdoor open to plover in order to let plover instruct nvda to speak the complete syllable being deleted; obviously the plover code should be modified to give nvda this instrucction via this backdoor. At the positive side, I believe it would work more reliably and simpler to implement; at the negative side, I dislike this option as it requires code on both the nvda and plover side and I am not in favour of creating backdoors.

Please let me know what your opinion as user on the above question is / what behavior you exactly would expect.

Kind regards,

Didier

This is the answer of one of the Plover developer:

"When undoing a translation, a series of backspace events are sent. Really, just like a user would do when deleting some previously typed text; doesn't this use case work with NVDA?"

So, it seems to be as you supposed.

About your second question.
As I wrote above, to have audio feedback when I press the "delete" button, the option  “Handle keys from other applications” should be on.
NVDA reads only one letter of the group of letters I delete, it seems to be only the first or the second letter.

For example I type "telefono" using 3 strokes: te, le, fono.
To delete the word I should press the "delete" button 3 times of cours. The first time I hear the letter "f", the second time "l" and the third the letter "t".

In this case it reads the first letter of each group of stroke. But sometimes it reads the second. Honestrly I don't understand the logic, it seems randomly.
Maybe it depends what I've typed before, if strokes with even or odd number of letters, maybe...
Anyway always reads the first or the second letter of the group.

No no spurious toolbars and just tried my portable version of 58 and no
change to 52, so its not firefox or it seems windows related. My guess is
that the virtual buffer in nvda is not being made until you either open and
close a menu or move away and come back, ie the page is there but nvda is
not seeing it. It seems a lot better on the stable releease than the master
snaps to me here onwindows 7.

hi,
i have the same problem with the same version of Firefox. however, i
use Windows 10 version 1709 with the latest built and NVDA 2017.4
sometimes by moving away and coming back it loads while at other times
it won't. it is irritating and i've not been able to establish one set
method for it to launch.
it also says "toolbar edit".
it made me wonder if some toolbar had been installed that caused this
to happen. not certain on this either.
thanks for any solutions.

I am on windows 7, but did wonder if all the recent fiddling to get the
latest version of firefox to work might have compromised the esr version

Has anyone else noticed this at all? Its not a major hassle as this

but
thought I'd best mention it here before putting electrons on Github.

Time to let go Brian. Did you ever have a stuffed animal growing up as a we boy? Eventually it got all torn up and old. You blind folks can’t let go of things.

Yeah use Firefox 58 beta 16. Yeah it’s a bit slow with NVDA, but hey it

works. Its not as slow as V 57.X
