Dear friends, the matter of fact is that I did talk with the team of Skype support and I expressed all of my concerns regarding accessibility and screen reader related things and He told me that Microsoft is not forcing people to use modern Skype as long as they will remove all of our concerns.

Further more He said that we can use Skype classic as long as that version is installed in our machines.

He said that if anyone of you is facing any kind of problem using Skype classic, feel free to contact Skype support and they will always be reading to fix the issue whatever you people have regarding the use of Skype classic.

That’s what the result of conversation between me and Skype support team but as far as my opinion is concern, Microsoft is secretly forcing us to switch over from Skype classic to either Skype 8 for those who are using less than windows 10 or Skype app for windows 10 for those who are using windows 10.

To my best knowledge if we all screen reader users regardless of what screen reader we are using continue to connect to Microsoft disability answer desk and with the help of them if we continue to connect to Skype support team and if we continue to voice our concern, at the end of the day our concerns will be heard and will be removed as well!

There is a need of unity among users of screen reader users.

It is not the time to argue a screen reader against a screen reader that which one is better, it is the time to show solidarity and unity of visually challenged people to Microsoft in order to rescue Skype from dying!

What bar skype chatting services are usefull on pc that my family can

I have 1 friend on zello but I havn't really used it.

 

Everyone I know have whats app skype or facetime but well for me skype

is used a lot and the family well.

 

When is skype to not nolonger be supported as a valid version of skype?

Skype is the way I do business sadly, so when 7 finally goes,

I don't know what I will do.

Its going to have to be that I will have to use long distance calls, no recording, nothing like that.

I may have to invest in one of those sip services.

Skype 7 is not all that accessible but its better than 8 ever is.

When I go oversease or when people do that, skype is how we chat.

I am also on several groups like this one.

But if skype goes just like aim, it will have to be email, for now.

I will probably end up getting an iphone for whats app, everyone in the family uses whats app.

Skype exists on the iphone and android to and I will just have to hope it gets better.

I will stay with 7 till it disapears from the net for as long as I can, but microsoft has just given me another reason to not upgrade to windows 10.

Firstly it was their music service, now its this.

I am sure I can find and continue to use old win7 boxes even if its no longer secure till I die.

Maybe I will go back to xp, I am so cheesed off, ms should be promoting users to 10 with a lot of extras we want.

I am not getting what I want, I don't need to call that much.

well look on my last message, I am seriously thinking there should be a page up, with things that have become inaccessible and the last accessible versions be posted to it, skype classic for example is really hard to et, I have it here on my dropbox now, I have also got windows task manager, I think calc pluss should go there but my dropbox really can't take loads and loads of things, win10 calc does work for the most part so I am not as concerned about that.

Its a pitty ms doesn't keep the classic interface, ok most of the web skype7 interface sucks but what I want are all the hotkeys and the lists for messages and contacts pluss all the menus if that can be replicated somehow either in the universal app or skype 8 or simply allow us to keep skype7 for as long as we can would be fine.

I'd prefer that the universal app get a desktop layout for desktops and a way to switch to it with a key and get all our hotkeys back to be honest but still.

Hi.

Yeah we can no longer get skype classic anymore people have put it out on dropbox, technically you can still get it if you have a tablet but still.

Someone needs to tell microsoft that skype 8 is not really that accessible, and as well as that maybe the classic desktop interface at least some of it should become part of the skype app.

For now, skyprivate seems to have the file.

The article I got from it was updated on the 15th and explains how to get skype going and I found it with skype classic on google search.

I am going to have to backup my skype classic to my dropbox though its a real shame ms is killing skype for its users now.

I still use it off and on if skype is becomming inaccessible, well that will become a problem.

I used it to help family members get a job, if it goes away I will have to say I can no longer help anymore.

According the code factory FAQ - you need to be online - they system
confirms it's licensing over the internet at least once a month. If it
doesn't see the connection and confirm it deactivates.

I enjoy NVDA better with the CodeFactory voices; otherwise it sounds too

It is the app version it is basically written just needs to be tidied up and uploaded


There is a desk top version already on my website at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net if i remember right it is under the nvda tutorials for other programs page.

It was version 7 of skype.


I was just looking at the skype web version on the net it seems fairly accessible but have not added any contacts etc to try it out.


I will either maybe write up some thing for it or maybe go through and record it with audio.

When i get a little spare time and can test it out with some one.


I usually let the group know when i upload stuff that covers nvda but not necessarily with other stuff like a review I done on the samsung ua 50 mu6100sxnz tv and going through the menus etcwith with voice guide which can be found on my podcast and products review page the person just needs to jump down to the review section to read or listen to it.


But that sort of stuff still goes under the recent updates section on the main page though.

On the Daily Fibre this morning on Mushroom fm, Jonathan Mozen also said Microsoft have been made aware of a big security issue in all versions of Skype and that yet another re write needs to be done to fix it.
Also he pointed that the new code even now has access issues and questioned what it was that the Skype team were doing that persistently left it with access issues compared with the old version and indeed other Microsoft products.
I suspect somebody in Microsoft is pulling their hair out. Not only do they have inaccessible software again but now a big security hole.
What else is there with as much spread as Skype has. Is it that they will forcibly top it or just that you wont be able to install old versions in 10 any more?
I suspect most of this not able to run stuff is probably design rather than need driven. I'm able to use Outlook Express on windows 7 because Microsoft could not be bothered to make an accessible email and news client with message rules.

Its odd as on windows 7, I see no difference at all. The new defer update has not even got to master snaps yet, so its nothing to do with that. It sounds more like something different in windows 10, but the big question of course is, what.
I guess one of those in the know might like to look back at the change log to see what was changed in nvda that might point to a smoking gun, but very little has changed, that is the issue.

In this case the problem started manifesting itself with all snapshots after 4 February. My computer is a 64 bit Lenovo running on a fully updated version of Windows 10. It makes no difference whether or not add-ons are enabled. I use Defender as my anti-virus program and nothing else unusual is running in the background. When I fall back to the snapshot of 4 February, all is fine again.

If this snapshot is the one which might be released, then I am seriously concerned, because I will then not be able to update on that computer.

I think these really do need a member of the dev team to try to find out the exact environments and extents of problems in a system smitten by one of these weird effects. Thus far the only one I've seen is the inability to restart sometimes after an update, traced to the core of windows being processing removal of locked folders and files and these usually go away if a delay in restarting is don or a reboot of nvda. These issues afflict some other software so have to be a windows thing. In the case of the people with problems these seem to be.
A dll missing which is part of a Microsoft runtime package
Intermittent refusal to speak menus and parts of dialogues
Lack of virtual buffers oon browsers.
Some of these are very reminiscent of non registered dll files of inability to locate said files by some part of the system. As these files mostly only show up as a problem when using a screenreader, it may well be there are problems in the wider community, which is going undetected, perhaps due to a combination of windows updates or updates to other software in the background. Of course it could b that the specifics of calling code are not entirely correct in certain circumstances making the nvda program have issues.

I really do think that somebody needs to find a way to raise all these things as issues sooner rather than later as you say, in case there is a wider issue. If developers can simulate the environment in use that causes these problems, then fixing them is not so hard.

A few days ago (a few snapshots ago) I wrote that when I updated NVDA to the new snapshot, I received an error message with the following label:


nvdaHelperRemote (outprocMgrThreadFunc)

The text of the error message is:


Error registering focus winEvent hook

Then there is an Ok button. When I Ok the dialog, NVDA works, except that there is no browse mode buffer which makes web browsing impossible.


This problem persists with the very latest snapshot which I have just installed, so I had to fall back again to the last working snapshot which is from about 4 February. This happens only on my 64 bit machine.


The result of this is that I have not been able to use the last number of snapshots and I have a real concern that this problem may manifest itself once 2018.1 gets released which would mean that I will not be able to use that version on my 64 bit machine.


Does anyone have any idea what is happening here?

Well, nothing I do since the windows update seems to work. Version 17.04 of NVDA doesn't work. Windows updated itsle in the middle of the night and evidently ran into a snag because NVDA started saying pause pause pause pause pause and I couldn't get out of it and had to turn it off and reboot manually. Very strange.

Brian, I do know that wednesdays are at least for me in new zealand the days updates happen.

So I usually get up at 6 am, turn on all the systems I can, and remote into all the systems that are active, and update them all with all the updates, by 7-7.30 updates come from ms and I update before I use the system.

Well, in frustration, I uninstalled the latest version of NVDA and installed one from 2015. Voila! Everything is working. I don't know why. No more unknowns and silences. Since it's an earlier version perhaps the finer tunings don't work as well, but it's nice to have it back!

I hate web skype. I had a play with it November of last year and it was horrible with chrome, chromevox and safari and voiceover. Did not test it with nvda as of yet. But yeah it is over all a horrible experience even with both accounts I have.

Six or so months ago, I purchased the CodeFactory Synthesizers and installed
it on one machine. On a regular bases, when I load NVDA, I discover that
the system asks me to activate the product. Then I run the activation

to its original state; I tried to reactivate the program and the system
tells me that all of my counts have been used up; that is not possible
because I only have the product on one machine; when I try to deactivate
this one instance of the program key, I get the message that all three keys
are used and nothing else can be done; what is going on with this program
and how can I make it work again? Why must I keep activating this program?
I enjoy NVDA better with the CodeFactory voices; otherwise it sounds too
much like a machine and not that pleasant to listen to. I hope someone can
tell me what to do with this product.
