Although they did used to have an older version of the program, like way, way out of date... so maybe the problem's being caused from some left over data that wasn't overwritten? First thing though I think will probably be to try the reinstalling after clearing everything out. Thanks.

Sorry for chiming in here. I've only just seen this, and wonder whether your friend has the latest Kindle for Pc version. I have an older version on my netbook, and tehe newest on this machine. If I download my Kindle books on the netbook, I get a non-navigable version, pretty much like the older format Amazon used to have. If I re-download the same title on this machine, with the latest Kindle version, I get a navigable version (hope the word "navigable" isn't made up... lol!). This, of course, provided the title does have both versions available. Usually, the newer format comes as a folder, while the older one comes as three single files, which include the azw file. hth, Ciao, Ollie

Google drive nagging

I see that Google drive are nagging me to update to the back up and restore new version. I disabled updates some time ago to keep the old format as nvda would not work very well with the newer versions coming out and also they were crashing machines all over the place
Is it now safe to update as the cryptic message its putting up every so often is that its no longer supported, which could just mean its not ever going to get security updates or that they intend to stop users with the old software from accessing the system any more. I have no idea which, but a few days after Google also nagging me to not use email clients to access their accounts they do seem to be getting a bit too aggressive toward their users in my view. Is there any other easy to use cloud storage that can run on old xp machines, which is the only real reason for using google drive at all since dropbox stopped its software running, mainly due to the fact that they started to use a newer code compiler that made code that fell over on xp. Admin: Subject lines
Gene
Every now and then, I may post a message to
the list about sending messages in such a way that it helps the list function
better. Subject lines are an important way to help the list
function. It will make it much easier for a lot of people to decide which
messages to read if you write good subject lines.
Why are they called subject lines? Not
because they are intended to be used for meaningless comments. They are
supposed to state the subject of the message. A questtion, a comment,
Help, a curious problem, and so on are completely meaningless subject lines as
far as telling the reader what the message is about. a subject line like
computer freezes when I open whatever program you open, or NVDA and Internet
tables or how do you read tables on the Internet with NVDA, or NVDA keeps losing
focus or something specific like that are proper subject lines. It can be
shorter and less explicit. Reading columns in Excel, recommendations on
laptop batteries, etc.
Please make a lot of list members time spent on
whatever lists you are on more efficient and pleasant by using subject lines as
intended. A lot of people decide which messages to read based on subject
lines and you also increase the chances that your messages will be read by more
people.
